Guys, Tom Francis (Gunpoint) is working on a new game and it sounds awesome

Heat Signature
A Game About Sneaking Aboard Randomly Generated Spaceships
14 minutes of early gameplay
  • You fly around in a little ship with no weapons, trying to avoid being detected by big, powerful, randomly generated space ships.
  • If you can sneak up on them and stay cool enough to avoid their heat sensors, you can latch onto their airlock, breach it, and climb aboard.
  • Once inside their ship, you’ve got to avoid any armed crew patrolling the corridors and rooms of the ship, and if you can get to the helm and subdue the captain, the ship is disabled.
  • In future, ship systems like guns and thrusters will be in specific rooms of the ship, and you’ll be able to sabotage or control them if you get there. You’ll also be able to fly their ship if you get to the helm.
  • My plan is that each time you start the game, you’ll be randomly assigned a profession and a target: “You are an assassin. Your target is Tom Francis.” or “You are a shipjacker. Steal the Dreadnaught Incisor.”
  • You’d locate your target by boarding ships and hacking their server, which would either give you info on your target’s location, or on which types of ships are likely to have that info.

Hover : Revolt of Gamers - PC, Mac, Linux
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=219856897

Created and developed by 3 young independant developers, "Hover : Revolt of Gamers" is a free runner in a futuristic 3D open world. Between the crazy Jet Set Radio, the interactivity of Mirror's Edge and inspired by films like "The Fifth Element" or "Star Wars", Hover let you play as a Gamer Team from another world, appalled at the dictatorship in their city.

OH MY GOD Mirror's Edge + Jet Set Radio?! I want to play this right now!

Blackwake - I'm all for these first person ship games. Multiplayer, no less.

Anamorphine is my kind of surreal chillwave jam.

It reminds me of, name escapes me, the one where you're in an art gallery and each painting is all about visual illusions. Was quite hyped here.

I just bought and played The Banner Saga for a few levels, and it seems really legit. The animation is an old school 90's fantasy style, but the gameplay looks like it has some new (to me) elements that will keep turn-based battles fresh for a while.

I thought it might be worth a separate post plugging Olympia Rising from the OP. They have a Kickstarter going on right now and it's looking like it will be hard to reach their (very reasonable) goal. It's a pretty cool-looking old-school action platformer in which you play a young woman climbing and fighting her way out of the underworld using sword and spells - and a lot of double-jumps! There's a (HTML5) demo you can try out. I thought it was pretty fun, though the controls might need a bit of refinement. It's only a $5 pledge to get the game anyway. One of the devs posts on GAF too.

Huh, I think this might be the first month I haven't seen a new game that really grabs me in the upcoming games (one I didn't already know about at least).

Hey, Toma, need some Deadlock help
I'm here

And I'm guessing I need to shoot the green hatch open and stop the fan and then boost around it somehow. But I can't figure out how to actually do this. Any advice?

Going to jump on the Toma bandwagon here: you all should try Factorio. It's awesome, and rewarding, and has tons of depth. And it even has stuff like power armor and exosuits, which I did not expect. There's something almost hypnotic about building a network of machines and seeing them all work in sync.

Anyone experience playing indie games on a macbook, preferably a macbook pro intel iris (5100) or iris pro (5200)?

Is it a hassle to get a ps4 or windows 360 controller to work on it? If so, which of the two do you recommend?

I don't know anything about Mac's but I think More_Badass still plays on a laptop from like 1943 and finds plenty of games to play.

hahaha. Great thanks. Just can't quite get up to play these games on a big screen tv. A 13-15 laptop will do just fine. Especially at Steam year round price savings.

It's crazy but, I genuinely get more excited and engaged with indie titles than those of the AAA console variety. Maybe it's my old age (31) or the fact that the bigger games are quite lengthy and can go on forever. With limited game time, I just wan't to finish and hop from one game experience to another.

I have Windows, but here are my specs if it's any help:

Windows 7 64bit
Intel Pentium B970 @ 2.3GHz, Dual-Core
Intel HD Graphics 2000

I can't play most AAA games or the more advanced indies, but for the most part, I'm quite pleasd and surprised with the performance of my laptop. I can run Deus Ex Human Revolution with moderate visuals and no lag, I can play Overgrowth with little to no lag. Tower of Guns runs perfectly once motion blur is turned off. Pretty much any other indie runs just fine. So if your equivalent Mac specs are better than mine, you shouldn't have any issues playing indies

As for setting up a controller, I had a link to set up a Dualshock. Let me see if I can find it

Nothing crazy about it :p
Honestly, nothing I've seen on the AAA or next gen side of gaming lately seems as innovative or diverse as what has been, is being, or is coming up in indie gaming. I discover something new and interesting literally every day.

Thinking of resurrecting that Indie>AAA thread, was reading through it today. Now that I've been playing, researching, and supporting indies for much longer now, I could probably post a more informed opinion

Thanks a bunch.

I still like AAA games but indies offer either new, interesting experiences that you can't find in AAA titles or old-school experiences that publishers consider dead. If it wasn't for the popularity of indie games, a lot of older genres of games you grew up one wouldn't even exist anymore.

That is actually pretty impressive that Deus Ex runs well for you. Nixxes usually does awesome PC ports but that is cool they worked on the optimization too.

I was surprised myself. I jumped on that Director's Cut sale so I'd have the game, and expected it to run like crap. But nope, save for some lag here and there, it runs really well, and I didn't even have to mess with the visual settings that much. Some games, like Bioshock, I have to drop everything to the lowest settings. Even Mark of the Ninja has framerate issues for me.

So I'm happy that Deus Ex: HR performs great on my specs

I just got Deus Ex HR Director's Cut too cause of that daily deal. Had already finished the game on 360. Mostly got it to for the developer commentary. Will be interesting to see how it performs on my laptop.

Hahahah... I play in a laptop from 1942 >.>

About the AAA games vs indies, I enjoy both of course I play more indie games and I like the new things they try. The next big AAA game I'm hyped for release is USF IV, I know everyone is hyped fot DS II but its likely to run bad in my laptop and I dont own a console to play it.

Back on topic the new free bundle is out and one of the games in it is Boson X a fun endless runner that was featured in a ptevious month.

Bought back the Indie>AAA thread
My post might be a tad long, but it's something I feel passionately about and wanted to express my opinion in a developed, concise manner.

Its funny how people dont get the point of the thread over and over again :p
I mean, it was a bit mean to use that title, but its a title that got people to talk in the thread, so it served its purpose.

He has been converted! If there are others here who havent played it yet, you should all go try the Factorio demo ô.o

Nice to see that thread alive and kicking again. And is it just me, or does it seem like there's overall a more positive opinion of indies in the recent posts compared to the older posts?

Yep, I got the same impression, but people still have the same problem of understanding why this even is an issue.

Mirrormoon EP just received a content update
...a new content update, which adds a mysterious button with an unknown function to the Galaxy Map area. New structures that pay homage to other indie games like Kentucky Route Zero and Gone Home have also been erected on MirrorMoon EP's planets.
It's also on sale for $5.99

Just posting to big up the lovely people at Cultural Attack who just sent me a free steam key for Aces Wild after I inquired if my earlier purchase meant I would be entitled to one. Might be time to give their game another go.

The technical issue I was having made me cold to it. I still have to give it another shot :\

Really annoying when these things happen.

Same thing happened with Outer Wilds for me. I STILL couldnt play it because its a 5FPS lagfest after 1-2 minutes.

I think I'm going to spend nearly $40 on some games I've been itching to play today. Sales keep coming and going on games I'm not quite as interested in and I think it's time for me to spend some money on the games I *do* really want to play. Here's what I'm thinking about:

Sokobond
Factorio
NEO Scavenger
Dustforce Vita (double dip so I'm debating but I think it'd be nice to have this on mobile)

Sokobond - haven't played
Factorio - definitely worth it
NEO Scavenger - bleak, ruthless, and awesome

Also going to double dip, but not sure on which platform. My 360 is slowly dying and I'll have to replace it soon (probably March). It'll take maybe 3-4 months till I get a Vita, though. A WiiU version would be perfect, but alas..

+1 for Sokobond impressions. Been eyeing that game for some time now.

Nope, my beta access is borked.

What!? Why?

Ah didn't know so many were looking for Soko impressions. Yeah, will def provide those. I've had my eye on that since before the Not On Steam sale but opted to wait. Now I can wait no longer!

No clue, cant play it for 2 months now. Played it for 2-3 weeks, then I couldnt log in anymore.

I've played a bit of Sokobond and am fairly impressed with it. It is decent Sokoban clone with just enough twist to the formula* to make it stand alone nicely, it has a nice difficulty curve so pros won't be left playing tutorials for 50 levels and the general interface and UI stuff is well put together. Recommend it if you like your logic puzzles.

*Pun totally intended.

So, like what Hexcells did for Minesweeper (don't know if you've played HC)?

Because I have to say, Hexcells is a likeable puzzle game but nothing I feel the urge to play on a regular basis (or for any meaningful amount of time, if I'm being honest right now) like for example, Picross.
