Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission in [1.5hrs, not rushing]

and people will still buy this demo for $40. We deserve the industry we have.

I don't understand why a 4-5 hour main mission (whatever that means) for $40 dollars is that outrageous.

Gone Home was on many GOTY lists and it was a 1-2 hour interactive story with zero game play that sold for $20.

Dat Konami theft!

No f**king way am I paying more than $10 for a 4-hour game.

Nope nope nope nope nope.

Is that South Park, Titanfall, Donkey Kong and Dark Souls 2 I hear? Why look at you and all your lovely value! I think I'll be buying you guys! Yes I will! Yes I will! Who's a good game? You Are! Yes you are! Not like THAT 4-HOUR BULLSHIT!

Now this is an excellent over-reaction. Bravo. Do we have any more outlets confirming? Any word on side missions? I beat Mass Effect 1 in 6 hours by blasting through. Is ME1 now not worth it?

Timed stealth missions are even worse. Probably the single worst piece of game design in the entire industry.

The MGS2 Substance missions were all timed and they serve as a display of excellent stealth mechanics. Do not approach MGS like a Chaos Theory or Thief. MGS doesnt play at the same speed.

I thought that Gone Home was a waste of my time and money. So there you go. I'm setting you up on the path to understanding other people's view.

I agree though, people parroting that there can only be one certain kind of stealth and that it remains elite over all is just silly.

Batzi isnt even gone. He can rest forever here in our hearts, live on through this arm, be recreated using parts from Liquid and Solidus, has already died and cant die twice, etc etc

There is no true death in mgs.

I've beaten dishonered in 6 hours and that wasn't even trying to blow through it. I found that game disappointingly short and not worth playing to completion more than twice.( more than I can say for most games) Metal gear solid 3 I could do in 5 easily but I've probably clocked almost 200 hours total in that one. I promise yup I will not be done with ground zeroes In 4 hours. I spent more time than that in the mgs2 demo.

Same thing happened with Dead Rising Case Zero. Except that was only 5 dollars. This may be a couple hours longer, but I got tons more than 4 hours worth enjoyment out of Case Zero.

Every short, highly cinematic aaa retail game released in the last 6 to 8 years. The type of game I wait to buy used no matter how good the review score. I'm referring to the trend of defending extremely short games with no replay value based upon the fact that they are 'memorable'. It's the value proposition debate in general. I firmly believe that more content or inventive to replay is essential to any 60 dollar purchase but I feel like I'm in the minority these days. Which is why I'm puzzled by the hate I'm seeing here.

Name a couple of notable ones.

r.i.p, a true
shill

Maybe that was his intention though? "That games and the way games are distributed change, like the times. Hardware will change, software will change, but shilling? You must be willing to live and die for videogame franchises, that's our calling, that's why we exist. Being a shill Jack is more than avoiding truths and creating lies, you must carry a emotion into battle."

Batzi has taught us being a shill is not worth our lives, we must rebel and thrive on our own merits alone, welcome to inner heaven.

So did I, but I guess I felt he was being overly dramatic. The industry is fine and if you don't like a price, don't buy it.

50%+ off sales a month after launch seem to be the industry we are now and as a consumer I am quite happy with that.

One is an independently produced game, the other is the equivalent of the opening half hour of a 3 hour movie.

To be more accurate this is comparing Gone Home at $20 to MGS5 as a complete experience at $100.

Reasoning like this is why games like Sin and Punishment and Sonic Generations did poorly, people looked at the hours and not at the quality of the game itself.

Of course I have no idea if Metal Gear V will be an amazing high quality game, but to judge it purely on the amount of hours to beat the game is crazy.

The 40 minutes it takes me to beat Sonic 3 or Sonic and Knuckles are the most entertaining, polished, 40 minutes one could ask for.

The problem is that those games have lots of incentive for replay. Even without playing it, that's a lot harder to justify for a prologue to a much larger game, especially when the prologues in MGS tend to be a lot more limited than the rest of the game.

If MGS V GZ is incredibly fun than it will be an experience worth playing over and over again. Replayablity all comes down to the quality of the game itself.

It's not like people aren't going to buy MGSV Phantom Pain just because they don't buy this.

I'm a sucker, I don't give a shit, look at my avatar I love MGS too much. I've already got my PS4 copy pre-ordered and you know what I'll probably replay the game/demo a hundred times over much more than any full priced released game recently. Does this mean I think the game should be $40, nope. In fact I hate the fact that we are getting MGSV split into pieces, but whatever it's coming and I'm getting it.

First metal gear title I skip on day1? More and more looking like it.
(until the gameinformer info drops and hypes me again)

community managers dude
Anyone who knows MGS (those already set on buying this game) understand the value of replayability.

Anyone overreacting about 4 hours most likely wasn't going to get the game anyway. It happens all the time here. Reacting for the sake of reacting.

what was the cost of dead rising case zero? this seems like it should be priced accordingly.

Jason S. over on Kotaku is quoting GI saying:

GI: "Judged just by the core story mission, Ground Zeroes is short. We completed it in just less than two hours."

so... 2 hours is worse yeah?

This is a weird logic to justify the game length. So the game being 4 hours is okay because you're supposed to replay it several times, so the REAL game length is 12 to 16 hours and that's totally cool?
