“I guess my feeling is that he’s right,” Zell said when asked by Bloomberg’s Betty Liu how he felt about Perkins’ stance. “The 1 percent are being pummeled because it’s politically convenient to do so.”

Zell then said the problem is that all non-rich are just jealous that they don’t have the same work ethic that the country’s wealthiest do.

“The problem is that the world and this country should not talk about envy of the 1 percent. It should talk about emulating the 1 percent,” he said. “The 1 percent work harder. The 1 percent are much bigger factors in all forms of our society.”

Let me eat cake if old.

Well no doubt some of the 1% work really hard—Jobs, Gates, Zuckerberg immediately come to mind. But it's such a broad generalization, it'd be hard to prove.

I don't necessarily agree with him.

Then again, "hard work" has many different definitions; mental, physical, social etc.

1% wouldn't last a week doing the work that some hard laborers in the bottom 10% do. Fucking pampered wimps.

People don't hate the 1% for being rich. They hate the 1% for wanting to be so rich that they drag down the poor, corrupt politics, ruin companies but still get a $20 million bonus.

Bill Gates is in the 1% of the 1% but people love him because he's a hard worker AND a great humanitarian. People hate the disgusting greed and apathy towards other people, not the amount of cash in their bank account.

1% and .1%'ers who spout this nonsense should have all their wealth stripped away.

then and only then will they begin to take their foot out of their mouths.

Oh that's why I'm not making that kind of money... doh well I should be rich within the next couple of years guys!

1% and .1%'ers who spout this nonsense should have all their wealth stripped away.

then and only then will they begin to take their foot out of their mouths.

They don't work harder, they just took advantage of opportunities that got them to the level they are now, you know, opportunities that the great majority of the world population don't have access to, so spare me the tears Mr. Venture Capitalist.

“The 1 percent are being pummeled because it’s politically convenient to do so.”

How, pray tell, are the one percent being "pummeled" right now?

With historically low tax rates?

With unprecedented freedom to use their money to influence elections?

well said.

The Walton heirs worked REALLY HARD to be born to Sam Walton.

The Koch brothers also worked really hard to be born to a dad that gave them an oil service company.

Steve Forbes also worked really hard to be born to his father too.

Some of them work hard sure. But many are also just lazy who inherited their money.
Or get to the point where they can coast while pushing off responsibilities to people below them.

I agree that there are some that work hard though. It's ridiculous to make a blanket statement either way.

I would say the work they do has a greater effect on a larger portion of the world, (good or bad), than your average person, but that doesn't necessarily mean they work harder. You don't have to be an ambitious person to have good work ethic or work hard.

Look if their trust fund money is working hard, then that's pretty much the same thing as them working hard. You have to include the effort of the money as well as the person to get a full picture.

Well, they were the fastest swimming sperm.

We have a winner. Predatory and corrupt practices are why the 1% is looked at with disdain.

If your income reflected the amount of work you put out and difficulty of your job I'd say the current 1% would maybe lay in the 30%. There are plenty of hard working people out there that aren't being paid what they're worth.

There are different types of skilled work valued differently with workers coming from a range of economic classes born with different opportunities and innate skills. Attributing their success to work ethic is moronic.

Still, I do think that the 1% gets pummeled because it's politically convenient.

Hey they had to fight a lot of other sperm to get to that egg.
