It doesn't really have much to do with lying at all. AMD could be telling the truth and Microsoft certainly have/had plans for a new console. But eventually you learn to stop throwing good money after bad and that's what it feels like that is where Microsoft might be at. They've all but given up selling their current hardware offering and have little confidence with B&M. What confidence they do have in their userbase and from game publishers has steadily been eroding. Yes, R&D is expensive, but plenty of products never see the light of day. That said, it is Microsoft we are talking about so nothing would shock me, but they absolutely should get out of the subsidized hardware business.

Without a doubt anything can get canceled and nothing would shock me if it does, I can't predict what MS will do with those machines 18 months from now

Motorsport is obviously half baked. It feels like there was only a handful of really passionate car guys and an army of temp workers. It wasn't going to get any better with the next iteration. I'm going to go ahead and buy it now that I know it's going to be the last one we get for a while. Shame. Forza was really the perfect spin on Gran Turismo for me. Between FM and FM7, I reckon I'm good for a while. Hopefully Sony is dropping day 1 on Steam by the time technology and new car releases get to the point that I feel like what I have is getting old.

Microsoft announced layoffs today affecting as many as 9,000 employees, and as part of the changes, more than 70 people will be let go at Forza Motorsport developer Turn 10 Studios, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The cuts were made on a call with Microsoft HR representatives this morning, and are hitting the "vast majority" of the studio. One source described the layoffs as leaving enough people behind to keep Forza Motorsport up and running.

Looks like the remaining people at Turn 10 Studios are there to keep the current game up and running. It's a GAAS after all. But there's probably not enough man power to work at a new Forza game.
There isn't much hope in the immediate future for what I look for in a simcade racer. I suppose Gran Turismo will always be there. I like the structure of it, and it is the obvious OG, I just really preferred the tastes of the Forza devs in their prime. Just in terms of what cars they focused on.

In a way, I fully support a lot of people who have decided to no longer support Xbox(i.e. canceling Game Pass, not purchasing an Xbox, etc)
We live in a very connected world and today's information will absolutely have lasting consequences for Xbox as a whole, not unsimilar to their price hikes.

At this point, the only Halo property that I think would land well on PlayStation would be the Master Chief Collection -- and more specifically the Bungie era Halos. I don't think there'd be much interest in the later 343i Halos. Too much negativity, too much bad press. Their window for getting Halo Infinite Multiplayer on PS5 slammed shut a year ago. If they had dropped it last summer, it might have made a splash. Now? Infinite is a dead game across the board.

I mean they hurt the product with multiple skus this gen already and even said during the FTC trials they wanted to be even more flexible with this next gen

The thing I don't get is that OEM seems to be the best solution for them.Xbox is kinda already a pc so it could still be called xbox, they don't need R&D and don't have to sell it at a loss.Add on it a windows/xbox compatible OS and them doing a console doesn't make much sense.

Not to forget that I think a lot of us would be interested in a more gaming oriented(and less bloated) windows (even moreso people using a steamdeck/ally/etc).
But as you said their next hardware will probably be quite expensive so they will probably ditch the lossleading strategy but I don't see how they will stay competitive price wise...And the latest news seems to have make quite a dent in the ever so fragile trust that people would still have about Xbox.And if we believe some S SneakersSO posts there will be more dents.
