Eh, yeah, not everything's meant to be glowing eye searingly. This is how it should look.

Wonderful engine, from Quake III to RTCW to Jedi Knight II to Medal of Honor, all cool.

This is the last game that needs remixing.
If you're playing properly and online as you should be you probably have all the textures on low and green enemy tank jr. models.

That's what I was thinking too. Isn't quake supposed to be gloomy?

Unreal RTX had similar issues.

What people don't realize is that much of the way these captures look are because of the RTX remix settings.

On this forum, you have mostly console players, so they're used to seeing screenshots of a specific visual product.

In this case, you can actually drastically change the look of the game based on how you tweak the RTX overlay.

I have yet to see a 'RTX Remix' of a game that doesn't look like an absolute hot donkey fart and this proves my point.
Even Half-Life 2 RTX Remix is underwhelming, imho. I found that while the first impressions were positive, they absolutely did not get the lighting, and therefore the atmosphere, of certain levels right. I guess that's due to all lighting being calculated in real-time via ray tracing, whereas Valve baked some of the lighting into the levels, while other light sources remained dynamic. The worst offender being Ravenholm, which I found to be too bright in lots of places, where it's pretty dark in the original. Completely changes how the place feels. Nova Prospekt, which is one of my favorite places in Half-Life 2, had a sterile and at times clinical atmosphere, and deliberately so. And that was, in many respects, due to how Valve lit the whole place. RTX Remix' lighting has often far too many light sources with warm "yellowish" light, changing how the place feels.

Quake 3 is an "art direction heavy" game. More so than Quake 1 and 2. You can't just replace the original look with a realistic lighting model and call it a day. Yes, it might look more realistic but it also looks uglier at the same time.

Quake 2 RTX is more respectful and look way better than this.

It's not because you make mods that you have great tastes.

Eh, we've see better implementations of this, and Quake 2 RTX was better.

The weapon effects and explosions are just blown out in a horribly distracting way.

Won't lie though...that music combo'd with the floating weapons/items rotating around immediately took me back though. I miss arena shooters.

I wish I could go back in time to play more Q3A during quakes prime days. these modern shooter games feels lonely.

Meh. Dr. Beef's Quake 3 VR port is amazing compared to this. I wish they'd officially remaster and release it to get a bit of install base going, maybe a more modern UI.
