Ninja Gaiden 4 is one of the most satisfying action games I've played. If you haven't tried, why?

Or is it just one of Adam's balls in my throat?
Got the platinum trophy earlier, what a heck of game! My man Heimdall_Xtreme Heimdall_Xtreme already made a great thread reviewing it. But I honestly hope folks would give it a try if you haven't.

NG4 is quite a lot more accessible compared to previous entries - the command lists are much easier to pull off (for some fancy movement). The game does a better job tutoring you through the game systems and you can access the training room during the missions.
The best part for the game being satisfying is that you don't have to be an action game guru to pull off some fancy combos. With very moderate practice time, you should be able to find some movements that are effective and slick, and then hack and slash through the whole game.

But that doesn't mean they dumbed down the core identity of the Ninja Gaiden IP. There are many great action games on the market, but in terms of "high-speed action game", NG4 really offers a unique experience.
In most character action games, the normal enemies/mobs are pretty much present here as dummy punch bags to let you slash, but in NG every enemy is lethal, you have to be constantly moving, positioning, dodging and fighting when there are openings. So it's not about to have best muscle memories to pull off infinite aerial combos, it's more about find most effective ways to dismember each enemy type, and quick obliterate them. Also, you gotta be smart about managing the blood orbs in the arena for UTs. Compared to others, I'd say even though NG4 is much faster pace, it actually is more about tactics rather than muscle memory and reflex.

Some criticism says Yakumo is a weak main protagonist compared to Ryu, that's for sure. But dual characters does offer more replayability. I finished the master ninja playthrough via Ryu, and plan to do it again with Yakumo as his style and weapons offer quite different experiences.

The game is actually very lengthy compared to peers, my first normal playthrough took about 20 hours. Honestly I am quite grateful Microsoft funded this game and let it come out. It's just its exposure and popularity seem abysmally low. Hope more folks would give it a try. Truly an underrated gem.

Lastly, some more gifs, hopefully gonna sell the game to some folks.

To be honest with you it's because it's fucking ugly.

I loved the Ninja Gaiden reboot series, but I just don't like the art style of the new game (at least from everything I've seen of it).

Got the platinum as well. Grats man 🥳. Loved it. Can't wait for the DLC.

I think Yakumo's an awesome character. Nice to play something new.

Game is already 30% off during the Christmas/new year/winter sales. It's probably gonna be 50% soon.
I know. Didn't like the price so I bought some other stuff instead.

That $70 price tag doesn't just affect my view of the launch price, when it goes on sale it makes the sale less attractive as well. 30% is still nearly $50 which is still near a fully priced game therefore it's not really on sale so I might as well keep waiting. 50% off makes it $35 which is close to $40 and that's not much of a sale so might as well keep waiting. Etc. Whether it makes sense or not, this is what goes through my brain. And unfortunately for publishers (but fortunate for me) is that there's lots and lots of games out there, especially indie games, that have more attractive prices for what they offer.

If publishers want to latch on the $70 price tag then I think they should consider dropping full price to $60 after a period of time so sale prices will hit better breakpoints and be more attractive.

The overuse of industrial-themed levels and boring level design are the reasons why. It's lazy design and visually depressing and not exciting.

Cant wait to buy it, just missed the sale. end of the month.
Deluxe edition (with future DLC) is still 30% off in PSN store.

I am perplexed. Ninja Gaiden Black is one of my top 3 all time favorite games. I've dumped a couple thousand hours into it.

But hearing people talk about 4, it's either they love it, or feel it's terrible. Such polar opposite opinions leave me scratching my head.

My plan was to wait for a few sales and pick it up around $30. If I hate it, oh well.

Dropped it, the normal difficulty was already kicking my ass, lol. Need to pick up again some time.
Think of ninja gaiden games as each difficulty is a separate mode or story. You start at the level at which you aren't getting your ass kicked. Complete it on that, then go up another difficulty.

The game adds new enemies, more aggression, and teaches more of its nuances as you advance in difficulty so it's fresh each go around. You learn which weapons are ideal in which rooms against which enemies, and which ninja arts to use and when. Plus you learn how to wipe rooms with little to no damage, how to hoard healing items, when to spend money on upgrades versus healing items, and much more.

Absolutely run through it.

I won't shit up NG4 again since GAF seems to not be able to stomach criticism of this precious darling so instead I'll just direct you to play through NG2 in hopes you see the light.

Platinum'd the game and think it's one of the best action games ever made. Yes I've played all the games in the series. To me it's just as good as NGB and NG2 (just obviously not as innovative as those were at the time). The new mechanics are some of the most satisfying in any action game, the game has some flaws overall but it's the gold standard for combat feel in character action games now, the presentation is just awesome.

I also love how replayable the game is. To me, it failed where DMC5 could not -- introduce new characters that are actually fun to play. I still haven't replayed DMC5 back to back to this day because I hate playing Nero/V, here I replayed this game 3 times on launch no problem. Looking forward to the DLC.

Also the soundtrack fucking rules. Soar is my favorite video game song in some years.

LectureMaster LectureMaster Thank you so much for reading my analysis... I'm very passionate and I speak the truth from experience in the video game field...

I steer clear of reviews and "best game" lists and share my experience...

I think that's the soul of a gamer who has gone through phases, especially those focused on the golden age. Yakumo is great and its obliterations are fantastic, the game is underrated... But little by little you'll see how great it is...

Definitely steer clear of video game analysts and YouTube...

The best experience, as always, is to see it for yourself.

I repeat, it's the best hack-slash game of the generation.

Work barely gives me time to play everything... But I got hooked on doing reviews...

And I'm passionate about games that almost nobody dares to play or that are very cult classics.

I want to play the arcade game, NES games and the three other character action games first.

As of writing I've only completed the first NES game and Ragebound normal difficulty campaign.

The first NES game is vastly superior to Ragebound.

Mainly price, but also the level design looks a bit boring to me and that's a huge part of what draws me to games.

Ragebound is better than ng4 so you really wouldn't care for this if you don't like that.

Maybe try Shinobi or Ninja Gaiden Black 2 instead?

A lot of bad stuff happened in real life and I'm out of money, I'm spending my gaming time with my backlog hoping to get back on track ASAP and buy it.

I've played Shinobi 2 and 3! They are great! I want to play them more with the first Shinobi game and other Elevator Action adjacent titles.

I've played the Art of Vengeance demo a couple of times and man does that game have a lot of wasted potential.

The idea of Ryu launching with a single weapon and the rest being DLC destroyed my interest. Maybe in 6 months to a year I'll get it complete for 20 - 30 bucks.

It's just an average character section game - and one on a budget - which is disappointing for the first mainline Ninja Gaiden in - how many years?

I'd still recommend the first two games over this and probably even Razor's Edge, but there's still a lot of fun to be had if you're new to the genre I guess.

I almost passed on it but I am glad I didn't it was good in a way a summer blockbuster is good. Just pure fun from start to finish.

I started playing it with Game Pass and fell off several chapters in. It's got Platinum Games all over it which makes for good game feel and some cool set piece moments, but it doesn't land like Team Ninja's own efforts for me.
