• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What's new to you gaming wise, in 2026?

It's almost February. I started Max Payne 3. Thinking about purchasing RDR2. Many games in the backlog I need to continue. Having Game Pass and thinking playing something online, maybe Quake 2...
What's new to you?

Releasing my game's demo.
Getting a Dreamcast maybe, which would complete my console collection.
Also playing videogames, but I wouldn't say that's new haha. It's mostly a backlog year for me so I'll be checking out some classics. Shining Force III and Gothic are high priority: already playing the former and seems like a pretty cool game(s)

Any info on your game?

Wild. I'm doing a backlog year myself. GTA 6 will probably be the only game I will be there day 1 and take a day off work for.

This year I'm going to be finishing the Metroid games and I'm knocking out every boomer shooter I wanted to play. Finishing Blood tonight.

I never heard of Guardian Heroes before, saw it on YT or some list. Its still available to buy on Xbox. Game is crazy!

Nothing new here, I'm playing old games; Oblivion, Zelda 2, Fable, been going through NES Metroid 1 and Super Metroid.
But wait, Mio is new! -ish

I fall asleep if I play more than 2 hours now. That's new.
That's been a problem for me the last decade. I absolutely hate long intros and tutorials. Been playing for 45 years or so, I can figure out anything without guides seemingly made for kids. Just throw me directly into the action to get my pulse up, then I won't fall asleep.

I am still playing Xcom 2 and will start Nioh 3 in a couple of days when it comes out

The start of the years has been slow, but hopefully things will get better with more releases.

I am quite excited for Requiem which comes soon

I am trying to figure out what THE perfect pc gaming handheld is for me before making a purchase. I can't really tell. I want OLED, I want a larger than 7 inch screen, I don't care if it's windows vs. steamOS if windows has FSE, but I also don't want to spend over $1k on a Lenovo 2 for an OLED option....

So what do I do? have no idea.

I just booted up RDR2(PC) for the first time last night. Man, this game could drop today as a 'current' AAA release and no-one would bat an eye.

That pretty much leaves you with the Steam Deck OLED.

I know but for some reason I want the device to be able to switch to different launchers and stuff or even be able to boot up an online game? I don't know.
It's also not as powerful as other devices?

It blew me away at launch to the point that it nearly triggered a depression when it was over because I felt like nothing was on the same level. Arthur Morgan is probably my all time favorite protagonist as well, incredibly well-crafted character.
I want another RDR… How long until that can happen? 2040? 😞

nothing new for me,
but, I'm playing metal max 3 (fan translated) on phone emulator right now,
finished metal max 2 reloaded (fan translated as well) few days ago, and decided to playing the sequel. good stuff and i can playing anywhere easily.

this game is rocking, and the gameplay is kind of new experiences for me

- open world apocalypse rpg (instead of doom and gloom, they going half parody), and lot of fun sidequests many with different upcoming and branches
- you can ride tank to battle or going commando without it, also heavy customization build for tanks and bikes
- the gameplay is kind of siding with complex mechanic

fully new experience RPG in my knowledge

You can install Windows on it and dual boot AFAIK. It is the weakest of the PC handhelds but it depends on your use case. For current, more demanding AAAs it'll struggle but for older AAA,AA/Indies and emulation it's awesome. It's about the best you're going to get based on your criteria without needing to sell off a kidney to afford( like the Legion Go 2).

I'm actually afraid to play this game because I know how much of a time sink it's gonna be. I'm still very early on ( just found and rescued Marston) and I can already tell it's gonna be one of 'those' experiences.

I never finished Bloodborne because I was hoping for a remaster/remake. But thanks to the Bloodborne PC community, that became a thing of the past this last week. I've beaten Bloodborne and got the "real" ending. Feels good man. 😎

Other than that.. this will be the first year I go to EVO as the game I'm currently working on made it to the main roster. So, it's super exciting! I've always wanted to go, but now I have a real reason to. 🤸‍♂️

I guess I'll add that I preordered 2 games which I haven't done in a long time. So, that's cool too. (RE:R and Marathon (the collector's caught my eye))

Releasing my game's demo.

Whaaaat?! I had no clue, congrats! Looks awesome! You have my support! 🫡

I'm sold!

Are the DS games remakes of the older entries? I need to look deeper into this series, looks cool!
the third is not, the second kind better imo, which is remake.
the third is made before they remade 2nd, that's why 2nd full with QoL

for easier start, the 2nd is better (so far)

also You might want guide because the game is not standard JRPG at all; look for metalmaniax website, and translate it with browser, they don't have any spoiler, and the game guide is very helpful with so many upcomes for the quest and how to tackle the difficulties

Yeah, I may end up getting the OLED 512gb and installing a micro SD and getting a dock and it will still be cheaper than the other devices. Dual booting, I think I am too dumb for that.... I can try, but I just don't know. Plus I will always have my PS5 for other games outside of linux.

There are 100+ hours of content but the main story is probably 50 hours or so. Don't read about the game and risk spoil anything, go blind and just enjoy and don't rush it. You'll love it if you're already seeing the upsides, I had an uphill struggle for many hours to adjust to the slow controls. Once I eventually accepted it and started seeing it as immersion of controlling a middle age slow cowboy I couldn't get enough of it. I can't praise it enough. One of my all-time favorites. 👌

Yeah I've steered clear of any spoilers so I'm going in completely blind.

There's plenty of online tutorial videos for that. If you're ok with installing a SSD( I assume you mean that and not a 'micro SD'?) then you should be ok for setting it up to dual boot.

So many games I got to catch up with. I don't know. It's been a while since I've seen what's going on in gaming.

The Doom clone game Mouse looks interesting.

Not much so far, between anticipating the next First Descendant update on the 5th and playing Mechwarrior 5 mercs casually. I did enjoy the Dragon Quest 7 reimagined demo to completion and am getting that on my B-Day. I still have Nioh 3 preordered but was seriously put out by the nerfing of the Onmyoji gal's outfit. Its a minor thing but still dissapointing since in 1&2 it was normal exposed side thigh. The horror. I cancelled my Code Vein top tier edition physical due to the same stupid stuff. There are some nice character designs in a way, but the art style and ugly gfx plus dropping to a T rating made me cancel. Plus the female bodies are so freaking jacked(preference of course). If I do pick it up it'll be on a sale.

My biggest surprise was an adult game I played, it came out last year but bought it a few days ago and it had me hooked. Sort of an exhibitionist game focused on stealth. Great fun, much more than I had playing the likes of Metal Gear and Splinter Cell, but about there with the Thief games for me. Its largely the subject matter but for such a small team the game was damn good and I still enjoy playing it daily to dork around. My girlfriend really likes it too for both the subject matter and especially the customization options for the MC. Its so funny seeing the better game ideas and originality being spearheaded by indies and adult games. Mainstream gaming kind of sucks but that's to be expected.

Oh yeah, that is what I am referring to. Thanks! I am going to think about it tonight.

Yeah. Other than maybe a a few headline releases… and a surprise or two, seems like this year is a back log year for me. Which is fine. I have other things to do

Nothing new but I'm currently getting through HR in MHStories 2 which makes me wish MHStories 3 would come out on Feb instead of March.

My favorite racimg sim (Live for Speed) , that Ive been playing for about 2 decades just got a huge graphics overhall, physics improved too. So good. Combined with a new monitor jump from fullHD to 4K. OoO

Started playing Xenoblade Chronicles X, I dipped my toes in the other games and they seem pretty good, but I'm starting with it. The pseudo-mmo stuff, the grating music and overly verbose cutscenes are kind of grating, but I understand why people like it. The setting is a weird Eagleland IN SPACE imagined by Japanese, with Japanese stock characters and sensibilities. The game needed an editor with a ball-peen hammer to punch up the script. I'll give it at least another 20h before I play XB1.

I mix it up by playing a new character + new map in Terraria which got a big update the other day.

Whilst not new to me in the sense of what they are capable of games wise, my ZX Spectrum Next and Commodore 64 Ultimate should be with me this year.

C64 ❤️
Not new either but I've been waiting for The Last Ninja Collection backer package from the Kickstarter, said to arrive in weeks.

I've only finished one visual novel in my life before 2026, this year I've already finished two. That's definitely changing as I'm planning to experience more of them.

I've started gnawing at my huge backlog. Already tried and promptly deleted a couple of shitty indies I'd bought for pennies on Switch an age ago. Beat a couple of others. Currently playing some games on Xbox that are long overdue.

I'm going to avoid nearly all AAA games and just play the stuff I really, really am interested in. No more Ubisoft, no more Activision, no more EA, etc. I might check out the modding community for older games as well. There have bene some really interesting projects, like Fallout : London, that I think I would like.

Been diving more into space sims and arcadey flight games with my new flight sticks. Also picked up a bundle with Monster Hunter Stories 1+2, so I'll see how Monster Hunter turn-based is like.

Coming to a close on Everspace 2 (solid game), and will jump back in for the expansions at some point later. Finished up Star Wars Squadrons, which is alright, but better with flight sticks than my time on a gamepad.

Wanna dive into Chorus and try getting my flight sticks to work playing Crimson Skies - High Road to Revenge through emulation. If the emulation works well for the flight sticks, will try Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2 on Dolphin, and play through the older PS2 Ace Combat games I missed out on.
