Most prolific third-party franchises on gaming systems by physical game count

Out of curiosity, I decided to look over what third-party franchises were the most prolific across gaming systems and decided to do my own count. These include Japan-only games and special editions, but not collections.

Let's start with Sony:

PS1:
1.) Gundam - 21 games
2.) Mega Man - 16 games
3.) FIFA - 12 games
4.) Army Men - 10 games
5.) Street Fighter - 10 games

PS2:
1.) Pro Evolution Soccer - 30 games
2.) Gundam - 28 games
3.) Power Pros - 23 games
4.) FIFA - 22 games
5.) Warriors - 22 games

PS3:
1.) Warriors - 28 games
2.) Lego - 19 games
3.) FIFA - 16 games
4.) Pro Evolution Soccer - 16 games
5.) Gundam - 12 games
6.) WWE - 12 games
7.) NBA 2K - 12 games

PS4:
1.) Final Fantasy - 22 games
2.) Atelier - 20 games
3.) Call of Duty - 19 games
4.) Lego - 18 games
5.) Warriors - 18 games

PS5:
1.) Star Wars - 8 games
2.) Like a Dragon - 8 games
3.) Resident Evil - 7 games
4.) Atelier - 7 games
5.) Legend of Heroes - 7 games

Lots of Gundam and Warriors early on, but those appeared to have died down by PS5. Sports too, but Atelier keeps trucking along.

Those Simple games don't really count, though. They were a wide series of games developed by different teams, that were totally different genres. It's almost like saying that Nintendo's "Player's Choice" games were one series.

it's more comparable to XBLA I'd say... just that only 1 publisher released them all lol.

Yeah true, that's a good comparison.

By the way, some of those games have some insanely good deep cut soundtracks. I used to collect those games, even if the actual "game" didn't appeal to me. And a few of them surprised me with how quality their OSTs were.

wasn't Earth Defense Force part of the simple series as well?

maybe D3 should revive that concept. who knows, maybe they'd get another long running series out of it.

They never really went away, they just don't call it that anymore. Latest release was a week ago.

yes, but it seems these days it really is just really tiny games like card games and board games.
back then stuff like EDF was part of that initiative. they had adventure games, fighting games, 3D action games as part of them. now it's Poker, Mahjong, or maybe a golf game

That said can Resident Evil still be called a quality franchise even with the abundance of releases
ah, yes, one of a few, not all follows the same route, but yeah, even zelda had lot of them.
cash grab games with powerful marketing, however... kinda proofing my opinion
