Or is it just one of Adam's balls in my throat?
Papa Phil's major legacies as the head of Xbox and MS Gaming CEO:

  • The Game Pass Revolution: Launched Xbox Game Pass in 2017. This "Netflix for games" subscription model fundamentally disrupted traditional game distribution, changing how millions of players access, discover, and pay for games.

  • Studio Acquisitions: Dramatically expanded Microsoft's first-party portfolio by orchestrating some of the largest acquisitions in the history of the entertainment industry. This includes the monumental $69 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard, the acquisition of ZeniMax Media/Bethesda Softworks, and the purchase of Mojang (Minecraft).

  • shifted Xbox from a console-exclusive box to an ecosystem: Pushing PC gaming integration, cross-platform play, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Launch Xbox first party games on rivalry's consoles.

  • Backward compatibility for Xbox Consoles: Let players carry their older Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One libraries forward onto modern hardware.

The only reason I didn't give him an F is because of what he did with backwards compatibility. He did everything he could to kill Xbox. Hard to rate him higher than a D.

He seems like a decent person for a CEO, but other than Backwards Compatibility, which was a policy begun by his predecessors on the 360 so I'm not sure Phil deserves much credit for that, all of those policies have been disasters.

10/10 In retardation
10/10 in Shill power
10/10 in hopes and dreams
10/10 Every year is the year of Xbox
10/10 in acquisitions
10/10 in future profits.

What can you say? ..The Best Gaming CEO in the history of gaming.

The end product is there for all to see . People can say what a nice fella and other pleasantries, fine, I am a consumer not a media person looking for access to interviews and invites to events.

Sure, we will get many tributes and praise, Thats to be expected isnt it, given the behaviour over the last decade.

The people in the media and the shills who refused to put him and his team under any scrutiny played a part in damaging the well being of the brand and as a Xbox fan myself I find it shameful. The best PlayStation executive Sony never hired.

Some nice things as far as services go such as backwards compatibility, Play Anywhere, and the attempt to streamline the platform, but what matters the most are games and he didn't deliver on that front.

D

His job performance rate a C, imo, but he gets a D for all the bullshit he has spewed over the years. Shit like "it's just four games". Far too much of that crap.

F. and I'm an Xbox fan. Was potential but he Royally fucked up a lot of positives.

-Gamepass was a nice add on for Xbox and then he jacked it to the point of hilarity.
-xbox had virtual no 1st party studios so he bought all them to not only do very little with, he made Xbox have no exclusive 1st party games.

Honestly next gen a person with half a brain will say "I'll save $1000 on not buying Xbox hardware, save $407 (CDN) annually and just buy a PS6 that plays PS and Xbox games and just buy the games I want and I'll save tons of cash with no loss.

He gave me Xbox One X, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Then he delivered some solid hardware with Xbox Series X. Then he got dementia and lost his goddamned mind.

Even though most of his actions I don't agree with and feel he is generally (or partially) responsible for the whole wokeness in games, we have to acknowledge that he was given XBOX in a mostly dead state after that infamous E3 where that guy was defending Kinect and the "if you don't want to be always online, play on XBOX360" or the "XBOX is actually a TV" guy

MFer wanted to see Sony go down so bad, he decided to burn everything in his division to see his mission acomplished but still failed, lmao

If only he could just wait for Hulst to destroy everything at Sony Studios without the help of anyone...

He was asked to coach the team while they were already down by 20 in the 4th quarter.

Losing the Xbox One generation as badly as they did with how important the digital library became that gen was just a devastating turn of events for the brand.

They had a lot of positive mindshare coming off the 360 but blew it all away after that disaster of an E3 with the Xbox One reveal and the brilliant Sony counter video of Shu just handing over a game.

Losing last gen hamstrung them greatly for this gen. He tried everything but it was just too hard to overcome. Had to do something radical and disruptive (Game Pass) because the writing was on the wall but it wasn't enough. Plenty of mistakes as well.

So what score? I don't know, like a B-.

F... every good initialize did NOT move the needle (backwards compat is less important that Gaffers think..) and every idea to change the market was shitty. He was deservedly fired (at least 4 years too late).

I used to love Xbox. I no longer love Xbox. That happened progressively during his tenure.

Not necessarily all his fault, but man...the brand is diluted AF and I unfortunately don't care about it anymore.

I'm open to giving it another chance down the road and I hope this leads to better days. Gaming needs healthy competition!

I mean you have to give it an F, he killed the brand.

The situation he took over wasn't hopeless. He talked the talk but his plans were terrible. And his push for Game Pass was based on blind faith and some vague idea of becoming the 'Netflix of gaming'.

It would be an easy F, but I did enjoy taking advantage of Game Pass's absurd conversion rate years ago which allowed me to play dozens of games for dirt cheap, so I'm giving him a D.

Without trolling I think I can provide a very exhaustive picture about Spencer management as Xbox CEO
