‘Cowboy Bebop’ Live Action TV Series in the Works

I have the bluray still bummed by the 4:3 ratio. The series could really benefit from a facelift.

That's how it was made, there's no alternative, besides cropping or stretching the image. I'm not sure what you want. You want a remake of the anime series?

It doesn't need a facelift at all. It's still one of the best looking and animated TV anime shows.

I have no idea who any of the people or organizations mentioned in the OP are so its hard for be hyped or unhyped. Leaning towards the latter right now.

How do you not put "from the writer of Thor: The Dark World" in your title? Shame on you.

Oh. Well......that's probably less than ideal.

ITV studios worked on those shows (you can check credits lists and various sources online). You seem to be confusing the two. ITV studios produces shows for the ITV broadcasting company as well as doing outsourcing work for those that want their services such as other broadcasting companies. ITV studios did actually work on those shows but it is a massive studio with an extremely large body of work
Literally my point.

I'm not saying that they didn't do those shows (like, I say they do work on "low budget junk"). What I am saying is that that it is a separate arm of the business.
It's like saying that [insert show from HBO here] sucks because it is from Warner Bros. Television who also does [insert shitty show from one their reality TV production arms]. It is an insane argument, Jeremy fucking Kyle has nothing to do with whether or not this show will be good and/or have a high budget.

Nah, just let it be. They more than likely wouldn't be able to do it justice. I'd rather see something like Monster or Lupin III get a live action treatment.

Guillermo del Toro was attached to a LA Monster project for HBO. Never came to fruition just as this won't.

Your point serves absolutely no purpose as those people were correct. Your arguement is that also produce good shows which as a no shit. You didn't even mention they were correct in your intial post. We have no idea on the exact staff of this but people are obviously going to form opinions based on previous interactions regardless how accurate to the specific product it is. With the complete lack of information I don't think they're being completely unreasonable.

The production company has a far greater input than the broadcasting company on the overall quality of the product. They help choose and designate how the programme is being made rather than simply greenlighting it to be made.

Nothing filmed/animated in 4:3 should be released in 16:9.

The Wire pulled it off well bar some scenes, especially casual conversations where people are right up in each other's face. But yes, the work required probably isn't worth the final product 99% of the time, especially with animation.

happened with DBZ

Correct me if I'm wrong, but googling says it's cropped, some versions better than others but still no thanks. My original comment was confusion at the idea of expecting them to expand out the scenes to 16:9 with new animation.

I'd really like to see a Live action Baccano! About the only adaptation I feel could work, and you wouldn't need to worry about whitewashing.

I love sci fi so I'd give this a shot. Not like I get enough space shows I can afford to be a fuck boy and rag on my fav genre. I take what I can get.

I could see Baccano working.

Monster could be great too if HBO ends up doing so. Especially after seeing Hannibal I have a lot of faith in something like that looking good.

Eh, bit of a different situation. This seems to have more "muscle" behind it than just GDT pitching his script to various companies.

No they fucking weren't. They were pretty obviously meaning the broadcaster (and if any of them weren't, my apologies), and thought this was heading for ITV (the broadcaster) with all that it implies (i.e. British TV budget/schlock, which wouldn't be good news).

And yet again, this is from Tomorrow Studios their (ITV Studios - the production company) joint venture with an American TV producer aiming at the American market which so far has produced a grand total of 0 shows for ITV (the broadcaster). It is a separate fucking entity from whatever hellspawn produces Jeremy fucking Kyle. No one involved with Jeremy fucking Kyle is going to work on this, so bringing it up as a negative is fucking insane. How the fuck are you still not getting this?
He's not going to do a budget tv show.
lol.
He recently did a not exactly big budget Swedish TV show. He totally would to this

Even looking past itv being behind this it comes from the writer of those awful thor movies

Bebop is something that requires great creative direction too though so we'll see if it's a director driven tv show or what. But... this is prolly gonna be garbage

Is Chris Yost a hit and miss writer? Dark World was bad but he wrote that Avenger's Earth's Mightiest Hero cartoon and that was pretty well received.

Do we know the ethnicities of the main people in Cowboy Bebop. I think I remember hearing Faye is Asian (Chinese specifically I think?).

EDIT: Either way, I think they should make Jett black even though it continues the black cyborg trope.

She is from Singapore, so yeah probably Chinese. It's also a fan theory that Spike is Israeli/Jewish but I think Watanabe said he never gave Spike a definite ethnicity.

Bebop could work as a live action show but you'd have to have some real budget behind it and a crew that has appreciation for the source.

As far as I know, the reason he never did a live action movie of Cowboy Bebop is because him and whoever else was involved couldn't get the budget they wanted. So I think you're spot on. Making a live action series out of it is insane. Not even HBO could properly fund what is required to do this right.

I expect The Gifted/Inhumans shit-tier quality.

Cool. No idea why they didn't jump on this sooner. The one time they can realistically cast Caucasians in an anime adaptation. Don't know where they're gonna get the budget though.

This isn't entirely true. Faye is unambiguously Asian.
She's from Singapore.

We saw watanabe at an anime con and he was talking about his next anime set in South America with samba music. That was last year. I'm still waiting :(

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Bebop worked in spite of being anime. Should only be an improvement to make it live action.

Well those are some famous last words if I have ever heard them. I think you could do a live action Cowboy Bebop show but damn they would need everyone involved firing at 100 percent to come close to matching the anime and that's if they went with a lot of one to one shots and sequences from the anime itself. I don't expect any kind of fight scene choreography on the level of what we got in the anime for example.

Cowboy Bebop is doable in live action. You jazz up The Rockford Files a little, add in some sci-fi elements and you're there. I just think you'd need a really strong creative team to keep their eyes on the prize, and I'm not seeing that here.

At this point, it's whatever. Go ahead and try. If it's garbage, I'll ignore it. If it's decent, then I'll watch it.
