‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Release Date Is Pushed By A Month To March 2018

Link.

The release date for Legendary’s Pacific Rim Uprising is being pushed by a month from February 23 of next year to March 23, Universal said this afternoon. That places it on the same weekend as Liongate’s Jamie Foxx-starring Robin Hood and one week before Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One from Warner Bros.

The date change is curious as it had been on a clear weekend previously but was only a week after Black Panther. The film, which is headlined by Star Wars’ John Boyega, is the follow-up to Pacific Rim which grossed $411 million globally in 2013.

The movie about monsters and mech is directed by Steven S. DeKnight and also stars Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona and Charlie Day.

Smart move. March can be a good month for genre movies. Black Panther is going to be an event, it'll suck up all the oxygen from the room. I think Uprising would've been totally drowned out coming the week after.
I'm still not expecting much from this, personally.

Seems like a smart move. There's not a lot of competition in March, not that I expect the film to do all that great anyway, but still.

The real news here is that there's another Robin Hood movie.

He's in the public domain. Companies will stupidly try to mine the property as much as they can.

A week after Black Panther is worse than a week before Spielberg's grand return to blockbuster status? I dunno about that.

I watched Pacific Rim again last night and it was even better than I remembered it. Gorgeous and badass!

I have nothing to base this own, but I am going to say they saw those "Girls Trip" numbers and was like shiiiiiiiittttt

Robin hood with jamie foxx? Will he have his black tony blair accent?

Lol. I hope to God he stays American in there. He's a really fun actor when he tries. I think he's a good choice to play one of the merry men

Hopefully it's decent. Medieval action has gotten a raw deal for a few years now

It absolutely is. Black Panther is going to be more successful than Ready Player One.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. It's Spielberg making a family-friendly movie again plus the marketing is going to show snippets of every big pop culture moment from every era. The movie is going to draw in people aged 10 to 60s.

It doesn't really matter anyway because PacRim will do whatever it does regardless of when it opens. It could open the same day as Black Panther or open with zero competition. Same end result imo.

RIP Pacific Rim

They should have tried to find a better window for the movie. I feel like even launching a week ahead of Black Panther would have been better.

Never seen skull island, but i will now

She doesn't do much. She's pretty and isn't a bad actress at all but she's basically in the movie to appeal to China.

I'm imagining production has been set back a bit, since they couldn't do a Comic Con trailer in time.

I really don't have any expectations for this one, but I'm happy it's getting made and i do hope it's at least decent.

Haven't been impressed with the robot designs from what was shown so far (they seem more homogenized instead of being more unique), but I loved the first movie and if the monsters are good I think this could be a solid flick.

So Ready Player One is Memberberries the Movie?

Not expecting too much from this, unfortunately. Glad it's here sooner rather than later though. The first one was a fun popcorn flick, if this achieves the same thing I'll be happy.

As someone who is significantly more excited for RPO than Black Panther, I don't think there was ever any doubt of this. Black Panther is a Marvel movie. If there's one thing those things do it's make money.

I'm sorry, who?

Oh... the least interesting thing in Kong Skull Island? I'm sure she'll be as equally interesting in Pacific Rim 2.

I forgot she was in Skull Island. She had like 10 lines, if that. Legendary/Wanda Group is giving her a big push though. She got Kong, The Great Wall, and Pacific Rim Uprising all at once.

Haha yeah. I just watch Skull Island and the second I saw her I wondered if she has a bigger role in the Chinese version of the movie or something.

I think Pacific Rim and RP1 may both die a death to be honest.

I think John Boyega's a great actor but unless the trailers are amazing I think it's gonna be hard to sell a sequel to an expensive film that barely scraped a profit. Plus The Last Knight's done far. far less business than previous Transformers movies, is the genre on it's way out?

RP1's teaser just looked like a collection of obvious CGI to me. However, I guess it was only a teaser and a 'proper' trailer might give a better idea of the films narrative.

I appreciate that Spielberg deserves all the plaudits he's received but these days I'm just not convinced that his name is much of a box office draw anymore. His last two 'big' movies (BFG & Tintin) didn't do brilliantly. I think Tintin made a small profit but I think The BFG actually lost out, and both those should have been big appeal, family friends movies.

Makes sense. Better to just get its own spotlight in a weaker month.

That being said I'm personally not very hyped for this. I know the first has a cult following but I was not very enthusiastic about it. This one better start building some actual hype. We'll see when a full trailer comes within the next few months.

The original was worth it to see a classic mecha launch sequence put to film so perfectly. The rest of the movie was icing on that cake.

Looks like he's playing Little John (cue euphemism about the size of penises) and it's starting ... Bono's (from U2) daughter as Marion?
