“Definitely Not”: Helldivers 2 Devs Confirm It Won’t Ever Come To Xbox Game Pass

Article:
Amid all the terrible news for Xbox, there was a sliver of good news for players: Helldivers 2 is releasing on Xbox next month. However, the co-op shooter won't be coming to the hugely popular Game Pass service, according to Arrowhead's community manager on the game's Discord server (nice spot, Videogamer). In response to a player who asserted that Helldivers 2 was confirmed to be coming to Game Pass, Arrowhead's community manager Baskinator replied promptly, saying, "Definitely not. No plans to bring it to Game Pass."

It's only $40 anyway.

Yep, better get it then rent it.
You will play it at least 2 months & it is very addictive !
I've got it on PC already. :)

Awesome game!

If Sony controls the IP and Nixxes even did the port, how does Arrowhead know it wont come to GP? Do they have some kind of partial control in the contract saying they can veto GP?

Barring a few exemptions, Gamepass is only for losers

Nonsense. I haven't subbed in a very long time but their selection is quite good. GOTY 2025 for instance was day 1 on gamepass.

On topic- is Helldivers even on the highest tier of PS+? Zero chance it goes to gamepass any time soon with Sony publishing it. Death Stranding only wound up there because of 505.

Two kind of games go on Gamepass. 1- MS titles because Phil forces them to be there. 2- Games with no marketing budget, which could be indie, A or AA games.

Successful games that aren't forced by MS to be on that "LET'S LOSE MILLION, BRUH" service, will never be on GP day one. But after a year, when sales have slowed down, appearing on GP makes sense.

If the dev behind Exp33 knew that their game blow up the way that it did, they would have never even thought of being on GP.

Eh, plenty of fantastic, successful games have been on Game pass Day 1.

Sea of Stars
Expedition 33
Blue Prince
The Alters
Two Point Hospital
Two Point Campus
Spiritfarer
Persona 3 Reload
A Plague Tale Requiem
Party Animals
Cocoon
High on Life

And I could go on. Not trying to list war but your claim is just false. Regardless of Microsoft's own asinine decisions and whether or not Game Pass is destructive to their 1st party output, nobody put a gun to the head of any of those devs and these games succeeded both critically and commercially while being part of the service on day 1.

Helldivers 2 doesn't need Game Pass and Game Pass doesn't need Helldivers 2. It would've been nice, sure, but the game already has all the buzz and exposure it needs to sell. I already placed my pre-order and I hope other Xbox owners do too if they ever want the possibility of other Sony titles coming over.

Insomniac tweeted Spiderman wouldnt go PC either. Turns out Spiderman 1 remastered, MM and Spidey 2 all came out on PC.
Obviously things change over time and they didn't feel that putting those games in PC would harm sales of PS5. Do you honestly believe Sony would cut a deal for gamepass when they don't have it on their own service? They want to make a profit, not give it away. Yes I know that MS would pay to put it on GP but would it be enough to satiate Sony on their earning expectations? They don't believe in putting their first party titles day and date on their own service but somehow they'll make an exception for Microsoft? The delusion of some posters is unbelievable.

The day it lands on PS+, the chances of it also landing on GP will become exponentially high.

The question is not the game being good or not, but if they are able to market their game enough to sell. No games mentioned above are in that category, so they're obviously gonna be on GP. There's a reason why something like Exoprimal from Capcom was/is on GP, but not DD2, MH Wilds, RE4R, etc.

The amount of bitching in Latam looking at social media, with this level of entitlement from some of the Xbox fans over there is amazing, people mad because the game is not coming to gamepass and saying they'll never support it 🤦‍♂️

You dont know if H2 will ever come to GP or not. All I was conveying is dont trust what devs say because all Spiderman games came to PC. And Insomniac (right from the horse's mouth) was the one who even denied it.

Heck, nobody would had ever expected H2 to ever come to Xbox to begin with, except for those small number of people who believed a rumour article a year ago..... which turned out to be TRUE. So if H2 can even come to Xbox, coming to GP is by far no stretch of the imagination. Sony didnt seem to give a shit MLB The Show came to GP for 3 years in a row.

We'll have to wait and see. Maybe H2 never comes to GP. Or maybe just like Insomniac, the dev is full of shit and it does happen.

By the looks of it, Arrowhead doesn't even have control of the IP, nor even did the port. Unless they got some kind of controlling interest (which looks doubtful) they got zero control if Sony wants to put it on GP in the future.

Sony wasn't the publisher for MLB on Xbox, MLB was and MS wanted a PR win. If it does come to gamepass it'll be a long time after they put it on their own service as Sony is the publisher and they will look after their own player base first, no matter what delusional Xbox players think. The world doesn't revolve around the wants of gamepass subscribers. If you want to play the game just pay the £40 and be done with it.

Palworld?
Manor Lords?
If Sandfall hadn't gotten gamepass money who knows if they would have been able to deliver the game we got.

How are those good examples? I am not familiar with Manor Lords dev, but Palworld is a new IP, Pals were literally designed by 1 graduate student (that's ghetto af lol), and the dev had no reputation either. This game had all the ingredients needed to be a GP candidate. Just like Exp33, if they knew how much money they'd be printing, the chances of them being on GP would be below zero percent.

I even said in the main H2 thread I'm probably going to buy it. Never said I'd wait for H2 to come to GP. So relax warrior.

Again, you have zero way of knowing what Sony will do. Look what Sony did with PC ports. First none. Then a trickle. Then practically all their games are on PC. It's so big they even made a PS Publishing label for churning out games on other platforms. And the PC time gaps are getting squeezed smaller and smaller. Even PSVR2 works on PC.

There is no way anyone in early 2020 (when zero PC ports were out) would predict in 2025 there's probably 15+ Sony games on PC, Lego Horizons on Xbox/Switch, MLB The Show on Xbox/Switch, and a big name PS game like H2 on Xbox.

The way the industry works, it's the opposite

When they deny it, it's because the possibility exists.

If launching on Xbox isn't desperation, I don't know what would be... If it doesn't sell 5M on Xbox, it'll soon be released on PSN Plus and GP

Pot calling the kettle black, how long have you been waging war for MS? You don't trust what they say, so what. I was simply saying that Sony will not put it on gamepass if they are not going to put it on their own subscription service. If they eventually do put it on plus, then you might see it on GP.

If they could finish their game without the money.

This game's devs or the Publisher shouldn't feel any desperation with Helldivers 2. If they are.....something is wrong with the industry.

good make that cash.

Right, there no desperation over here. The game costed 100M to develop and sold 12M copies in the first year. From Sony metrics, they might feel like this game is too popular to lock down to just PS5 and PC; missing out on an opportunity to get reoccuring revenue from a rival platform, like hw Microsoft is getting from Playstation with COD.

gamepass might not contributing to revenue in the long run, and it might hurt server side which is not cheap
They could do a short GP deal.

It's all calculated, MS would have to pay for it to be in GP, Sony would just have to make sure the servers handle the initial surge of "free" players trying it out.
