Sounds intriguing.
Filmmaker Hwang Dong-hyuk, who created and directed every episode of Netflix’s South Korean mega-sensation “Squid Game,” has set up the new feature film project “Killing Old People Club”.
Dong-hyuk promises that the project, which has adopted the working title of “K.O. Club,” will be more violent than “Squid Game” and says he may have to hide from the elderly after the film comes out.
He also says the best compliment he got about ‘Squid’ came from an idol of his – none other than filmmaker Steven Spielberg who revealed he had binge-watched the series in three days and told Dong-hyuk “now I want to steal your brain.”

Speaking during a session at MipTV alongside producer Jun Young Jang, Dong-hyuk revealed he has already penned a 25-page treatment for a film adaptation of a novel by famed Italian intellectual and “The Name of the Rose” author Umberto Eco.

I'd love to see a Korean filmmaker adapt Umberto Eco's masterpiece. I just hope season 2 of Squid Game can reach the same heights as the first season.
It's gonna be a long wait till 2024.

We all have bad opinions. It's okay.
Considering how the casual audience loves this. I'm standing by my opinion. It really doesn't do anything new,the cinematography didn't really stand out for me and the performances were only decent. A lot of asspulls towards the end as well.

Did we watch the same show?

Granted, the plot is very reminiscent of Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, but the visual style of the show was very unique and loaded with metaphorical meaning. Performances were also top notch and the show makes you really care about these people. The ending was absolutely brilliant, especially the final exchange between Gi-hun and Il-nam.

The only weak part is the portrayal of the rich capitalists, but other than that it is an absolutely brilliant show, especially in comparison with the dreck that the MCU is crapping out nowadays.

Squid Game was all about execution.

It wasn't a new concept at all. Maybe to someone not familiar with Battle Royale or Hunger Games, but that's it.

Alice in Borderlands was just as good if not better in many aspects, imo

Freaking Steven Spielberg saying that he wanted to "steal his brain" is laughable.

But what Squid Game succeeded was, as I said before, execution.

It had many charismatic characters, the pacing was flawless, soundtrack and visuals were awesome ... It was really well done. And sometimes its all about execution.

So now it seems that he will milk the BR formula yet again, but now with old people.

Hopefuly he will do a good job yet again, but the formula will get old soon

Agreed. It’s always the worst take to harp on a piece of media for not introducing new concepts. If you can take existing concepts and execute them well, it will always succeed. Squid Game was massively hyped but only because western audiences haven’t had much exposure to those age old concepts. It made me remember a really good death gambling anime. I would love to see this adapted for live action.

Damn. What better compliment than this? There isn't. This is really awesome for the guy.

Also, I absolutely loved Squid Game. So freaking good. Bring this movie!!

I'll watch it.

People overly praising this are the same ones who argue about comic book movies on this board so.... Consume more Asian fiction. Death Games aren't a new concept. It just did it on a grand scale.

I wonder, in an alternate timeline where this show had a viewership in the thousands instead of millions, would you two still have said the same thing? Because the reviews themselves wouldn't have changed.
If I watched it,yeah I would. I watched Parasite before it won at the Oscars and still enjoyed it afterwards so I'm good.

What does this even mean? Casual audience as opposed to what?
