I have decided to take the liberty of doing a Production Thread for 007 Spectre, so we have a general place to discuss all things James Bond in the lead up to the films premiere later this year. The cast, media and news history aren't finished yet, but I'm working on it. This is also my first production thread, so I'm sorry if it does not live up to people's standard.

With only 8 months until the world premiere of Daniel Craig's latest James Bond movie, Spectre, I figured it was time for a Production Thread, while the film is also worthy of one. The excitement is kind of split with the leaked script having disappointed a majority of fans here, while others have chosen to stay away from it. If you are to discuss content in the content, please spoiler-tag this information in respect for those, who want to go in blind.

Official Plot Synopsis
A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.

On December 4 2014, James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced the official title for the 24th James Bond production. MGM, Sony Pictures and EON Productions went on to announce that Sam Mendes is returning to direct, while confirming the cast at an extraordinary press event. Spectre began principal photography on December 8 and is set for a global release on November 6 2015.

The film production will be based at the Pinewood Studios and film on locations such as London, Mexico City, Rome and Tangier and Erfoud, in Morocco. Bond also returns to the snow in Sölden, and visits other Austrian locations such as Obertilliach and Lake Altaussee.

The writers this time are John Logan and Neal Purvis & Robert Wade. Director of Photography is Hoyte van Hoytema and Editor is Lee Smith. Production Designer, Dennis Gassner returns along with Costume Designer, Jany Temime and Composer, Thomas Newman. Action Specialist, Alexander Witt is the 2nd Unit Director. Stunt Coordinator is Gary Powell, SFX Supervisor is Chris Corbould, and Visual Effects Supervisor is Steve Begg.

Get To Know The Cast
Both familiar and new faces are turning up in Daniel Craig's fourth outing as James Bond. The old guard set up in Skyfall - M, Q and Moneypenney are once again represented by Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris. They are joined by Rory Kinnear as Tanner and new team member Denbigh played by Andrew Scott.

New actors and actresses are popping up as well, including Christoph Waltz as Franz Oberhauser. His henchman, Mr. Hinx played by Guardians of the Galaxy-star and wrestler Dave Bautista, while french actress Lea Seydoux will play love interest Madeleine Swann. Monica Bellucci is Lucia Sciarra. Stephanie Sigman and Marc Zinga were later added, playing Estrella and one of Bond's adversaries.

Jesper Christensen from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace is making a surprise return as Mr. White. Which were especially shocking after his public criticism of the Bond family.

I'm sort of nervously looking forward to this movie now that the series appears to be drifting back to a classic Bond formula. It will be interesting to see how Craig Bond mixes with some of these old tropes.

The teaser is coming next weekend? Nice!

The hype is dead. Man, that script leak really did hurt this movie. Oh, and Skyfall too.

ironically, most people probably didn't even read it, just what others had to say about it.

I hated how Mendes killed off M. I mean, for christ sakes, let her continue playing the role until she can't anymore.

Shit. I didn't know. That's awful.

Though, they could have surely made the death of her much more impactful and emotional than it ended up being.

I seriously can't wait, I think it's going to be as good as Skyfall if not better
I hope it will at least surpass Skyfall, but it's a harder task getting to Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace's heights.

Also, it seems like we'll get the first trailer on March 28.

oh yeah, I'm not saying it was done perfectly. Frankly I think Mathis' death in QoS had more oomph than M's. Just saying, this was specifically written as her out of the franchise not because they necessarily wanted to dump Judi Dench, but that she just can't read scripts anymore.

Yeah I know that but I were replying to Jason's Ultimatum. :)

I like what they did with M. Good to give her some closure instead of waiting until it's too late and then having to replace the actor between movies.

I feel like I should pee somewhere in this thread to mark my spot...

But I guess we'll see when stuff interests me.

MI6 has photos up from Mexico showing
the filming of the pre-titles sequence set during the Day of the Dead.

Wish I hadn't seen them.

They really have everything they need to make a great Bond film, but I'm still afraid they won't be able to find a compelling narrative arc, something the franchise has been missing since Casino Royale.

I have very little faith in this film.

I am in the same boat, sadly. Had Skyfall only made $600M-700M they'd have gone down another path. But since it hit a billion the writing was on the wall for Skyfall 2.0.

Because I'm a Bond whore, I bought Skyfall on Blu day one. I haven't watched it once. That's VERY telling for me, given that my CR Blu has been watched countless times and I'll bet I've done QoS at least 10 times on Blu.

Just saw it too. Looks super cool, and there's a video as well.

I'm optimistic about Spectre, even though Skyfall were such a letdown. I think I have seen Skyfall 5-6 times now but it comes nowhere near Casino Royals or Quantum of Solace.

We're not getting another Casino Royale before getting another Die Another Day. Could be decades.

:D

The best thing about Skyfall was the opening song by Adele, so good.

I never even bought it. Just rewatched it once on Netflix.

And I have no intention whatsoever of watching it again any time soon.

She can't read her scripts anymore but I don't think that was the reason for her leaving the franchise.

eh, I'm not going to call her a liar over it or anything, but I also wouldn't be surprised if she wants to downplay it too so she doesn't lose out on job offers either.

Who knows, maybe the producers were concerned about her eyesight and figured to use this opportunity to write her out now before it got worse. Or maybe it didn't matter at all and Mendes just really wanted a man back in M's chair again.

My reason for having little faith in Spectre is that they are bringing back all the key people/elements that made Skyfall so shakey for me.

I'd have killed for new writers, a new director, the return of David Arnold, and a metric fuckton less of reintroducing old villains/characters.

But it's SPECTRE!

Not sure how that deals in the current environment, but we'll see

But it's SPECTRE!

It's just a name though. Quantum effectively filled that role. I'm sure they'll have a "twist" in Spectre where its revealed that Quantum is SPECTRE or a sect of it, but I feel like that's just a lame way to shoehorn SPECTRE's name back in to play on nostalgia and provide even more fanservice.

I'm excited for this, even if it's more Skyfall, which I enjoyed. For the Craig movies, for me it's Casino Royale >>>> Skyfall >> QoS. And I think QoS isn't an awful movie, either. Though it's the one I'd least want to rewatch.

I really enjoyed Skyfall but something one of my friend's said after seeing the film has stuck with me. He didn't like the fact that Bond had a mic/speaker in his ear for half the film. That's something you don't regularly see in the franchise and now it sticks out for me on repeat viewings.

heh, I actually kind of liked this as small of a thing it was. It was a nice reversal from Casino/Quantum where Bond was frequently going rogue and helped to strengthen his ties with MI6 and M, which makes the threats to both more meaningful for Bond.

That's the Spectre Omega? Damn, can't say its my favorite one.

I loved the Casino Royale one so much I bought it and have been wearing it daily for 4-5 years.

I just want a film as gorgeous as Skyfall with the script and plot qualities of Casino Royal. Is that too much to ask? :(

I'm with everyone else, Skyfall was Spiderman 3 levels of terrible. I still don't understand how we went from Bond being a code name to bond being his actual name... I feel like the whole bond universe got wiped out with that film.

James Bond was always his name and never ever ever ever ever a code name. Ever.

You need to watch Spider-Man 3 again.

Also, Bond was never a code name.

If this is a joke post, I missed the joke.

I really fell for the allure of revisiting Blofeld and Spectre but that cooled off after the Sony leak. As time passes since then I realize that yeah, I do want that but I wanted it right after Casino Royale made by the crew that made Casino Royale. Skyfall was pretty bad. Quantum of Solace wasnt great either but at least there were some crumbs from Casino Royale still on the plate.

I never use the phrase "worried about..." when it comes to a movie. Seems like a waste of energy to be worried..I'd rather say interested. I love Bond but I dont have a lot of interest in the new one. Maybe thats for the better.

Another thing...Seeing that MI trailer makes me think about the last 3 Bond movies and if you exclude the opening chase in Casino Royale there hasnt been a memorable sequence or set piece in the series that used to be place to see the next big stunt.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

Bond was never a code name.

In the film series there is only one James Bond, the different actors each have a distinct continuity but with some events and characters overlapping. The same James Bond went on all the missions we've seen in the cinema.

Loved Skyfall, but the SPECTRE script and shooting outline sounded awful. On the plus side, the Casino Royale script didn't read very well on the page but made for a pretty strong movie, though unless big changes have been made in the interim (unlikely), SPECTRE's problems extend beyond bad dialogue and a draggy first act. Plus, there's the fact that the Bond movies have rarely produced two great movies in a row - last time for me was the Daltons, though if you don't like him, you're probably going way back. Fingers crossed, but I'm not confident.

And anyone who brings up the Bond codename theory for purposes other than mockery should be immediately banned.
