One Million Brains Trained
Surprise DS hit reaches platinum.
by Anoop Gantayat

November 9, 2005 - No one can deny that Nintendo is doing its part to make the Japanese smarter, and keep its investors happy in the process. Reports from Japan reveal that the company has managed to ship a million copies of Nou wo Kitaeru: Otona no DS Training to Japanese retailers. That's right, Nintendo's DS brain training game is the the biggest thing to ever hit the Japanese DS. It's the DS's Seaman.

Following its release on 5/19 of this year, Nou wo Kitaeru has proven a consistent seller for the big N, remaining on the top ten list out of Media Create nearly every week. The game has proven a particular hit amongst older audiences and has, along with Nintendogs, been offered by Nintendo as evidence that its strategy of expanding the game market is working.
Nintendo will release a sequel, Motto Nou wo Kitaeru, on 12/29. The original title will be released in America under the name Train Your Brain in 2006.

"It's the DS's Seaman"
quick, inject it into a PSP egg so we can have a perfect hybrid!

also :
Shiko shiko Troll no DS training : [standard #14] 1 million smart(er) (non-)gamers - was the correct answer.

It's funny because I was actually going to use that as my topic line.

On another note, Seaman sold well? I honestly had no idea.

*adds to IGN wishlist*
I'll buy it just to try and counteract the fact that I probably become just a little bit stupider at least 65% of the time I try to have reasoned arguments about anything related to politics, philosophy, etc. and it never gets past the ad hom-flinging stage.

It is shipped...

Last week's Media Create chart brings it at 720K. So about 280K left in stores, although there are probably way less since MC does not cover every sale.

Keep in mind that MC are just numbers from certain stores and not all of Japan. There's discrepencies. I'm fairly sure that they're near 900000 by now. Anyway, at the rate the games are selling, i doubt they won't sell thru those 1 million.

Like mad. It did something like 540k, then another 11k for Christmas Seaman, then 32k more for Seaman 2001.

I was over there right when it came out and it was actually selling out pretty regularly at my local shops.

Well according to Everything and Nothing which seems to be pretty accurate, it's sold around 882k upto the 6th November:

http://everythingandnothing.org.uk/vg/japweekly.php?date=38662

Nintendogs is also at 940k
Wario Ware Touched at 950k
Super Mario 64 DS at 920k
and Brain Training Gentle at 760k

all I can say is WOW and well done to DS :-)

Wait! What? That's 5 potential million sellers by the end of the year, 8 if Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and Pokemon follow their pattern sales. O_O

i think they'll all pass a million, and MK:DS will before it's finished as well

Japan is DS land at the moment, Nintendo are really destroying the PSP

it talks about data direct from publishers and cesa, so are these sold to retail figures as opposed to sold by retail? (i think charts from media create, famitsu and dengeki are sold by retail figures)

where's Daito Giken Koushiki Pachislot Simulator Osu! Banchou? it sold around 100k in the media create chart but doesn't appear here.

Look for the first few weeks:

They are still estimated i think, but based on a number of different sources such as retail figures as you say.
