Maybe I'm nostalgic for old school Don Bluth but I still absolutely love this movie and watch it regularly when I'm feeling down. It's barely over an hour long!

You and me both. An incredible film by any standard. I think out of anything it's Don Bluth's studio's use of color that REALLY sets him apart from the rest. The purple-brown (watercolor?) tones in LBT set the mood from the get-go and carry the animation throughout. Same with Nimh and American Tail.

Also helps that he also had the advantage of learning much of what he knew from Disney directly. :)

In no particular order:

Toy Story
The Incredibles
Spirited Away
Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers
Akira
Persepolis
Pinnochio
The Iron Giant
The Castle of Cagliostro

and for sheer technique alone, The Thief and the Cobbler

Frankly, watching anything by Miyazaki or Pixar (except maybe Cars) will keep you happy.

The Triplets of Bellville, Watership Down, and Grave of the Fireflies are also pretty awesome.

I don't care for most of Don Bluth's films, I have to admit. Secret of NIMH is about all I can watch these days. I just find a lot of his character designs unappealing, and the lipsync in the movies is always overanimated -- it looks like all of the characters are eating peanut butter while talking. Just IMHO, of course. :)

Maîtres du temps, Les (Time Masters)
Heavy Metal
The Lion King
Toy Story
Gandahar (Light Years)
Nausicaa
Spirited Away
The Iron Giant
Rock & Rule
Ghost in The Shell
Treasure Planet
Titan AE

Some of my favorites

What can I say, I <3 Pixar. Also I really need to rewatch the Iron Giant. It's been years since the last time I saw it and Brad Bird is just awesome.

I was literally in the progress of making a list, and thought I'd check again before posting, and you literally matched mine piece for piece. Well played, sir.

BTW, no love for Ferngully? I can't even remember if I liked it as a kid, but it bears mentioning.

Only two animated films have really stuck with me in my life. Akira and Plague Dogs. Plague dogs I just saw recently and man I almost cried at the end.

"I've only got to drown, jump under a truck, and the sky will fall down and all the men will die. You haven't thought of that Rowf, that puts us one up on them." - Snitter

Edit: Forgot Lion King! Another great that stuck with me.

Yeah, that movie hit me hard. It helps that the VA is so phenomenal.

I'm assuming both dogs drown and the island at the end of the movie is mostly there for imagery, right? Either way, it leaves an impression.

My Favorites include:

The Jungle Book
Aladdin
Robin Hood
The Lion King
The Little Mermaid
Fantasia
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
Iron Giant
All Dogs Go To Heaven
The Emperor's New Groove
The Land Before Time

Toy Story 1 and 2
Monster's Inc.
The Incredibles
Ice Age 1 and 2
Titan A.E.

1. Toy Story
2. Akira
3. Snow White
4. The Lion King
5. Spirited Away
6. Shrek
7. Nightmare Before Christmas
8.
Final Fantasy: Spirits Within
(horrible movie, huge step for animation)
9. The Simpsons Movie
10. Aladin

EDIT: My list is more like most influential rather than what I would say is the best.

I can't believe how many people haven't seen The Prince of Egypt.
honestly I don't remember the whole thing, but the reason it's on my list is because some parts of this movie were really memorable, and I still remember bits and pieces of it from only seeing the movie once when I was 5.

I can't believe nobody else remembers Flight of Dragons :\ I watched it again recently on YouTube - it still holds up pretty damned well.

The fact that only two people in this thread have seen Plague Dogs is even more disgusting.
It doesn't really surprise me. Watership Down is far more well known and was somewhat of a children's book whereas the Plague Dogs would scar children for life.

I recently saw Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers (a 2004 direct to dvd) and it was really good. It might even squeeze into my top 10

Of course who needs a top ten when you have DuckTales: The Movie - Treasure of the Lost Lamp:D

Oh crap, I completely forgot about Ducktales. That's definitely one of my favorites.

Never mentioned enough. It breaks my heart to see the industry glutted with CG when that technology combined with traditional animation made such breathtaking imagery. The Red Sea.
Remove Hotep, Huy and their shitty song and you have perfection.

Many of you listed a lot of great animated films, but this thread fails without a single mention of The Chipmunk Adventure.

There also isn't enough love for Beauty and the Beast.
