The very first xHD4-powered TVs will not be the Sammys but the WD-xxx27 Mitsubishis:

We will be seeing many new sources of 1080 content later this year and next year," said DeMartin. "The new gaming consoles, Blu-ray/HD-DVD technologies and media center PCs will all offer HD content, and the major broadcast and cable networks will begin to transmit 1080 signals at 24 and 30 frames progressive, among the highest HDTV broadcast resolutions available. Mitsubishi 1080p DLP(TM) HDTVs will be poised to take advantage of the latest HD content and deliver it with unsurpassed picture quality."

BTW, the xHD4 DLPs are only "kinda"-1080p.....it is actually 1080x960p with a 1/2 pixel shift sampled @ 120Hz (aka: wobulation)

Still, I am hoping to get a look at how good these xHD4 sets are in a week or two....taking another trip up to Cupertino soon :D

What kind of resolution is 1080x960? 1080x is 1920x1080. 1080x960 is some weird almost squarish box. Shouldn't it be something like 1700x960 if it's scaling down?

I ment to say 960 x 1080....sorry about that....

There are not a full 1920 x 1080 mirrors on the xHD4 DMD.....they are using wobulation (1/2 pixel shift and doubling framerate to 120 fps) to give the "appearence" of 1080p....it is not TRUE 1080p, but if the results are the same, it doesn't matter....

What's in Cupertino?

Family :)

How soon for 1080p CRTs?

Uber expensive Front Projectors have been able to resolve full 1080p from way back in 1998 with the Sony G70s and later with the Sony G90U and others(Vidikron, Faroujda, Runco, etc)...

AFAIK, no direct view CRT has ever been able to fully resolve 1080p

I'm looking to buy a 70" LCD or LCOS set this fall. Which 1080p sets (that actually have 1080p inputs) will likely be available by then?

Too bad most mitsubishis are build like they are made in 1975.. I hope the set looks nice.

I just got that latest issue of The Perfect Vision last week.

The new Mits a freakin' titties lookin'!!! Seriously though, the lineup is the most extensively revamped in their history - that includes tech and aesthetics.

Yeah the Mits 1080P set does sound sexay. This time next year the set may be down to 2500 bucks. But according to avsforum the mits doesn't support true 1080P out of the HDMI connection. I don't understand?

Actually there is a discussion in this thread:

....over at avsforum that now debates the possibility of 1080p inputs on the new TV...

CES literature indicated only 1080i over HDMI but that was before E3 and perhaps Mitsubishi saw the light once the realized there might actually be a mainstream product that can be a 1080p source :D
