Crazy how each generation of sports keeps getting better and better.

Congrats to the kid.
Better sports technology, training regimens, and other things in sports science in general goes a long way towards this. Half pipes in the OG skating days were literally that, sewage pipes and drainage ditches and stuff. Now half pipes have perfectly calculated curvature and angles to assist skaters.

Still, it's impressive to see people pushing the limits of what's possible with the human body.

He wiped the booger on the shirt and they all still hugged him. #TrueLegends. Though I agree with most people, the child did drag his hand.

Maybe they limited the crowd size because of Covid
Yeah probably. Still super impressive and getting lots of news coverage.

makes me wonder if this kid could pull off 3.5 or even 4 rotations on a non-mega ramp once he gets older and stronger.

It's the truth. Halfpipe tricks look way better boosting high above the lip. I don't skateboard, but snowboarded for a bit. Went to the US Open back in like '98, and honestly, a simple method or mctwist 5-10ft over your head will look so much better than a 720 at half the height. The crowd pops bigger for the high tricks more technical ones. OTOH, you had someone like Michalchuk who'd pull double-backflips that were both high and technical. So it's possible to do both.

I think what made Tony's 900 as epic as it was is that it was not only technical, but he got up on it too. This kid if young, so his body isn't matured yet. If he can stick with it, and not wreck himself, he'll be able to stick that trick while elevating high above the pipe.

isn't he just spinning faster since he's smaller?

so in theory an 8 yr old should be able to pull off at least a 1200

come back to me when you're in a matured body

The board is a greater percentage of his total mass than it would be for an adult. So theoretically, it's more difficult. When he gets older, he'll make it look more impressive though. I'm not sure why anyone would consider that an insult. Groms don't go as big as vets. It's just the physics of it all. Shaun White was technically capable from an early age, but he became an absolute monster when he grew into his body, even if he stayed relatively small. Puberty earns you multiple levels in badass.
