too many crazy things year after year... :

MSNBC.com front page is crazy too

"1,400 killed in Guatemala mudslide"

O_o

now the Earthquake killing thousands

"The toll included 250 girls who died when their school in northwestern Pakistan collapsed. "

With all the natural disasters in the past year, I think it's finally safe to assume God is out to get us.

ohnoes the world is eeeeending!

>:| Seriously, we're going to see new forms of storms soon like quakenados and stuff. And then the locusts with man-heads... ;_;

Keep treating the world like shit and the world will ultimately win.

Yeah, if only Bush would rethink his plan on inserting seismic modulators into the tectonic plates to destabilize continental drift.

Loss of life is Sad. I wonder what Al-Qaueda would attribute this to. Is God angry at muslims too? God seems to be mighty pissed recently.

This is why donating to the red cross is always a good idea. They aren't built to respond to just one disaster.

Man, I hope they've been building quake-safe structures since that technology became practical a decade or so ago. Gotta find away to limit the damage and death from these types of disasters. PEACE.

Sad news. It's kind of ironic that these countries put aside their political differences and took action within minutes of the disaster while it took Bush over a week to lift a finger for Louisanna.

They'll probably say it was God's punishment for Musharraf's support for the war on terror. ::shrugs::

of all the natural disasters earthquakes are the worst, my prayers to all the people affected by this :(

Death toll up to 18k dead in Pakistan, now.

Holy crap - 18,000! This is terrible. And right along with it goes all the homes, families and business destroyed. Many of those who lived lost most or all of what they have. Those reports of the schools collapsed......Incredible. :(

Are these people tightly concentrated? Earthquake deaths are always high in that part of the world

A lot of it has to do with the quality of the buildings. Most of them are solid stone or earth and are not designed to withstand quakes; it doesn't take too much to topple them.

*edit*

CNN said:
The fact that Islamabad was near the epicenter "means a fairly large urban population has experienced some strong shaking," Applegate said.

The National Earthquake Information Center put the quake at 7.6 magnitude, which it considers "major." The Pakistani Meteorological Department put the magnitude at 7.5, and Japan's Meteorological Agency put it at 7.8.

In February 2004, a pair of earthquakes registering 5.5 and 5.4 magnitude killed at least 21 people and injured dozens more. Hundreds of homes built of mud, stone and timber were destroyed in a rugged, mountainous area about 90 miles northwest of Islamabad.

Good GOD!! 18k???

More.

CNN front page: "The death toll in Pakistan from the earthquake has climbed to more than 18,000, a spokesman for Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf announced."

18,000 is alot. When I read 3,000 is morning I expected to see 12,000 tommorow. Its worse than I thought.

Im now predicting 24,000

Anybody else notice how much faster the death toll is calculated then it was for Katrina?

WTF? i clicked this thread earlier this morning when it was originally titled at 1500 dead. 18,000+ is just insane in terms of pure numbers.

... I get that 18,000 is rounded (and predicted) but go back to the archieves, there were almost no predictions (official ones) for Katrina.

it's not hard to round a number from all the collapsed apartment's and home's that had about 2-3 days to evacuate from the earthquake that was on the forcast for the past week.
