1st Revolution pic

maybe they'll just be happy to be profitable and exist as a lot of gamers 'alternative' system?

so basically a repeat of the status quo...hopefully they'll tell us in a few hours.

Nintendo is dead if the console is really only 2-3 times more powerful than the gamecube...meaning....XBox levels?

Guess I won't be wasting time on the Nintendo conference.

Shhh...but did you know that you can already do this? ...I'll tell you how...meet me after school behind the cafeteria...bring a blank DVD-R.

iTunes has already shown us that even though people can download MP3s for "free", millions of people still prefers to buy the real thing if the price is small.

xbox is not even twice as powerfull as gamecube. there is a very small difference.

Remember, Nintendo is always EXTREMELY conservative about numbers.

GCN stats weren't so hot in comparison to Xbox, but the difference between games hasn't been anything vast. 20 foot distance on Wavebird, though it can go all the way to 100 feet?

Also, the console looks just sexy. It's not in your face, it's not about a weird shape, it just looks like it's hi-tech.

I'm not into chipping, modding, soldering, or spending time trying to get emulators to properly render a game the way it once played. I'm willing to pay Nintendo a small (small, you hear me, Reggie?) fee to dump a ROM that I know works onto whatever storage medium(s) the Rev supports, and let me keep it for eternity.

Did Nintendo ever say, "Gamecube is *blank* times more powerful than N64" at the end of last gen? If so, how did they compare the two?

plus the added ability to play it on your TV without having to MOD a console or anything is cool too...

It's gotta be able Xbox levels, but by how much is the question. But yeah, this isn't pleasing to my graphics whoreness. Ah well, Nintendo may be positioning themselves as a cheap secondary system. I wouldn't mind owning a PS3 and Rev if the price of the Rev is right.

hey, its all about profits, Nintendo fans are always talking about those great profits. Maybe thats why only 2-3x power..? Who cares about horsepower as long as nintendo makes money.

I said Rev would have a netplay/downloadable game service months ago. Now we need DS/new gameboy game uploading for my psychic abilities to be confirmed.

Until we see what "2 - 3 times more powerful than GC" means in screenshots/gameplay/videos, I think no one should be making any assumptions that its going to be marginal in power compared to the other two consoles. Lets kindly wait until after the E3 conference.

Please tell me there is more to the "revolution" than the download service. It's a nice idea, great little feature, but it really isn't that amazing. Not enough to make me go out and buy one on Day 1, you know? I'm hoping there is a lot more to be shown, I want to see some crazy ass Nintendo idea.

Nintendo has never had an underpowered console. And 2-3x would mean the processor is like 1.2ghz, so thats bullshit.

So it's safe to say the 360 won the design contest if this is really it? It looks better than the GC but it's lacking a bit of flair it seems. I guess I'll wait for the pic pics...

FYI:
Using the "x" factor to determine how powerful the Revolution will be isn't the hottest idea in the world. There are raw numbers of how the chips perform, and there are real world performance issues.

Wait for a hardware spec sheet, then run it up against the PS3 and XBox 360 to see where the system stands as far as raw horsepower goes.

Agreed. We need to see the games!

If it is only 2-3x more powerfull, it will spell doom for the big N... Why?

Because it will make it very hard to do any type of cross platform development. With the costs of next gen dev being so high, the only way to make money is to keep development of all three versions of a game on the same pathway for as long as possible. As soon as you have to start making all new art assets for a different system, costs go way up.

2-3x more powerful than GamCube? lol wtf...

I bet Iwata goes on and on tommorrow about how it won't matter as graphics have reached there peak!

Revolution will offer broadband access to a free Internet-based player matching service, similar to Xbox Live, that also will have downloadable versions of nearly every Nintendo game — from arcade classic Donkey Kong through current titles such as Mario Sunshine. (Nintendo hasn't decided whether downloading will be free.)

OMG WTF

From that USAToday article:
Xbox spokesmen have pointed out that 360's specifications are 10 to 13 times more powerful than those of the original Xbox; Sony said Monday that the processor in Play-Station 3, which will come in several colors and be out next spring, will be 35 times more powerful than the PS2 processor.

Nintendo makes more modest claims that Revolution is two or three times more powerful than GameCube. "It's not all about having 'turbo power,' " Nintendo's Perrin Kaplan says. "It's about what you do with it."

Ugh. They better be fucking joking.

Steve Kent doesnt LEAK anything. Especially in USATODAY (where DS first debuted).

Nintendo uses USATODAY as an announcement pad for hardware.

Nintendo is finally starting to learn from its competition, about damn time. Now...lets see how their control pad and 3rd party support turns out this time.

Get a grip, people. The conference is less than eight hours away, and getting worked up over such a vague comment isn't worth the time or energy that you will inevitably put into it.

This is either going to be a suicidal bloodbath or genius thinking. I'm leaning heavily towards the former at the moment.

Didn't Iwata say they would at least match their competitors for power? Why would he say that while all along they were making this? It's not out of the realm of possibility, but it's really weird.

But then there's nothing to argue about. :lol

Looks like Nintendo hasn't learned from the 'Millions of Polys per second' fiasco from 5 years ago.

This is Nintendo taking itself out of the race with the other two ... and going down a completely separate path. It may or may not work ... but I don't think they have a choice at this point.

HAHAHAHA on the iTunes like thing!!!

It was only a week or so ago I said, "Wouldn't I be awesome if Nintendo did an ITunes thing but for games?" and everyone totally poopooed it. WRONG. I win. We all win. Except for J and Ken.

I'm sorry, I'm just too ecstatic.

I trust Steven Kent. He was the first to show the DS. This better be a HUGE revolution because the mainstream will shun away from the graphics.

2-3x Gamecube power? That makes sense, how in the fuck could they fit PS3/X360 power into something that small? Not possible.

Not according to Johnny Nighttrain. He stated it was more powerful than the 360.

so it seems like revolution is closest to being the '1.5' system. still may pick one up as a secondary console, but i'm really getting the feeling that nintendo is just taking a smaller step forward (technically) than sony and microsoft. maybe they think that half step won't be too noticable to the casual eye?

heh, at least with the rev's small size, it'll be easy to share space with a 360/ps3 in my entertainment center. :)

I love how people are already making claims and formulating opinions on the graphical abilities of the Revolution when not even one fucking screenshot or prerendered CGI has been released.
