10/10! "Genius"

Uncompromising and unabridged, Ninja Gaiden Black shows you how reissues could and should be done. It's worth investigation by both veterans and newcomers alike, and boasts a spit and polish rarely seen on consoles. Make no mistake, you're going to get your ass handed to you time and time again, but it looks like the game that redefined action just redefined itself.

Awesome. Already got mine ordered. Only a few days now. Both EB and Gamestop are giving away a NG t-shirt that looks awesome.

MINE. SO SOON. OH YES. SO DAMN SOON. :D

This will be a good warmup for when master Itagaki and his ninjas unleash Ninja Gaiden 2 on PLAYSTATION 3. ;)

Flip flopped again? What's the deal Senor Bob?

Some missions are incredibly tough (so tough you'll think you'll never beat them), but rarely do they make you want to spike your controller into the ground. Those kinds of games are filled with cheap A.I., horrid collision problems, wretched camera angles, and all sorts of artificial 'challenges' (see: Devil May Cry 3) that are really just the result of poor game design.

So true, yet the floodgate of trolls has now been opened.

No flip flop! Sony released a list of 3rd parties making PS3 games. This is what it said for Tecmo:

Tecmo
Action game, action
Action-adventure game, action

I truly believe one of those two games listed is Ninja Gaiden 2. And the other is Rygar 2! That is my guess though nothing more!

Ninja Gaiden on a Dual Shock derivative... oh god my poor hands.

Hmm... I'd say one of those is Fatal Frame, as they've kept the franchise alive on PS2. The other could very well be Rygar 2 (the action game.)

I don't doubt they'll release Ninja Gaiden 2 for PS3. I do doubt, however, that they won't release it for Xbox 360.

I forgot they included the arcade NG in this, I never have tried it. Is it any good?

Apparently they've included a "Ninja Dog" difficulty setting so you could play through the revamped game on an easier setting (which will still probably be harder than most games) :)

It's all about the block button and rolling, you get that down and the game really isn't that hard (on the normal/hard settings anyways).

yeah but then they will humiliate you with cutscenes saying you're a whimp. no, i really want this too but i'm not man enough to endure it either.

Playing Ninja Gaiden on anything but the hardest difficulty setting is not playing Ninja Gaiden.

Its like going out with a woman and turning off her higher brain functions...sure you get laid but you'll feel dirty in the morning.

Not really. I think it is a pretty bland 2D beat 'em up. Glad the NES series didn't follow the arcade roots. ;) Decent fun with 2 player co-op, though.

I'm quite good at Ninja Gaiden and I don't think I'd be able to beat the first level of Black on Master Ninja from the sounds of it.

lol...DMC3 has poor game design? After writing that, remind me again why I should take this reviewer seriously? :lol

I'll probably get this for the extra stuff but only once it's dropped in price. £20 or less and it'll be a good impulse buy

Did they fix the camera issues people had with the first one?

It has a fully controllable camera now while still maintaining the "snap to rear" functionality of the original.

I think I'll give this another try. I only made it to Alma last time around, then traded it in.

I still feel shame for that.

P.S. There's too many Sony fanboys on this forum. What proof is there that NG2 will be on the PS3? I hope not 'cause those controlers look like pain.

Ninja Gaiden is awesome but to call DMC3 poor game design....no, just no. There is always Japan's DMC3 version it's much more fair with continues.

DMC3 NA verison is poor design, though. The Europe and Japan versions aren't. But this is NA and we got the gimped crap version of DMC3. It is fair to use the NA version of DMC3 as comparison. I hope we get the special edition of DMC3 and the problem gets fixed.

I understand, people couldn't handle it and begged for unlimited continues, crap isn't a word I would really associate with DMC3 though. DMC3 special edition is supposed to even have a harder difficulty setting, after the NA DMC3 version that's a scary thought.

Yes, it's supposed to have the user-controlled camera that was made available in the first Hurricane Pack for the game. It's gonna rock, and I can't wait to play the game through again and check out the new content! :) My favorite game this gen.

Some missions, like the one where you fight a doppelganger of Ryu Hayabusa (wearing a Dragon Muscle Suit) are exceptionally fun, because not only do you feel like you've got a fighting chance against the clone, but because he's as equally fast and skilled as you are. It's like playing against a live human, even though you're obviously not, and that speaks to the quality of NGB's improved A.I.

nice. i love moments like this in action games. funny thing, but the best such moment i've encountered is dante's last fight with virgil in dmc3.

Definately getting it to try it again on Dog difficulty. I got to like the 8th level and had to quit because I traded in my Xbox for the Halo one and Tecmo doesn't allow you to copy save files on memory card.

Call me a pussy or whatever, but that game is hard as fuck. I just want to beat it without breaking any controllers.

LOL.

I didn't get a chance to play through the first one yet, so I just read through that 1up article. It sounds like there is no reason to play the original I should just buy this. Then I though well the original is probably just $20 and this will be $50, but this new rerelease is only $30. I'll just get the new Black edition, thanks tecmo!

So, I never bought the original.. is there any reason to still play through that (I rented it and got a big chunk of the way into it, then realized I couldnt buy it because I was failing classes because of it)... or is this game going to have everything in the original game, just with better polish/balance.

Edit: I see the arcade version is in this one, are the three NES version in as well?

cmon Guys ninja gaiden on Normal was not that hard at all if you knew the moves and learned to counter.

DMC3 the NA version was extremely cheap due to the save points. That was it. Other than that i didnt i think it was artificially cheap at all.

While I love Ninja Gaiden, I don't think it could ever be improved to the point of receiving a 10/10 unless they take out the off-screen projectile attacks. That wasn't hard, it was just cheap and stupid.

Anyway, it's a great score for what I'm sure is a great package.

Aren't there sound cues for offscreen attacks? I dont remember. In any case this release is sooo fuckin mine. Heading to gamecrazy to prepay today.

I'm gonna be a Ninja Dog and love it! Call me weaksauce, but I just didn't have the emotional energy needed to survive getting owned by Alma, even in Normal.
