1up-Perfect Dark Zero hands-on

First the good news: Rare's big-budget shooter Perfect Dark Zero is all set to debut alongside the Xbox 360 on day one of its launch, November 22. Then, the even better news: We finally got our hands on Zero for some single-player and co-op game time, and it's looking good -- both literally and figuratively.

But enough about the controls -- what we're really excited about with Zero are all the different ways to play through the single-player levels; this game has been designed from the ground up for serious replayability. Playing solo, the objectives and routes through a level change depending on which of the four difficulties you choose (Agent, Secret Agent, Perfect Agent, and the unloockable Dark Agent mode). The harder modes will add goals -- say, kill three snipers in three seconds, or grab a briefcase -- that can take you to all-new areas. In co-op (splitscreen or over Xbox Live), the second player can access more previously off-limit sections. For example, one of the Hong Kong levels begins with Joanna on a rooftop and her father Jack (controlled by the computer in single-player and by player two in co-op) on the street below. Separately they fight their way through the level, helping each other out now and then -- Joanna might take care of a few snipers before they have a chance to get a bead on Jack, and he in turn will open a few doors she can't on her own. The only way you'll ever see Jack's half of the level is by playing as him in co-op.

Gameplay innovations sounds sweet. Love the idea of failing to complete secondary objective haunting you later in the game

Looks like these threads are a lot more empty now that positive impressions are being published :lol

I get nearly 10 days to hone my skills. I have no excuses to suck at this game but I guarantee I will. I'll still carry the team online though.

So yeah, as you can probably tell, we're excited for PDZ. We knew it would have a robust multiplayer game, but coupled with a single player experience this ambitious Rare has a potential launch-day must-buy on their hands. Anyway, don't take our word for it -- download the video we captured from the show floor and see for yourself.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Oh and they link to the garbage video too? What the hell! :lol

That has to be some sort of joke.

I'm sorry, but the videos I've downloaded are at best good looking. Nowhere near great. Let's not tarnish those games that do have great visuals (PGR3 I'M LOOKING AT YOU!)

I love that horrible cutscene. It's so bad. The voice acting, animation, lip synching and the dialogue are so horrible. :lol

It happens everytime, on just about every board I visit

I hope you're not the one who works for Rare, b/c this company is failing on multiple levels here. I don't think it's positive impressions scaring people away. I just think there's a limit to the amount of tragedy people can consume in one day. We've all be numbed to the visual trainwreck that is PD0, and so anything new is met with complete apathy...and some regret. Regret at having clicked the link...and then the reply button. Woah is me. Rare is the worst dev acquisition since Taito...well, until Taito. PEACE.

Yes, the video is uploading even as I type at 5:20am in the morning here in Amsterdam. It's a sweet ass 6.5 minute gameplay video with direct sound showing off a ton of the Hong Kong rooftops level. So check it out -- when it's up. :)

My PGR3 hands-on will be up soon, as well as Ghost Recon: AW.

Fuck, and to think we got into Amsterdam about 23 hours ago. No sleep till... later.

No, I don't think that's it at all.

I know your tired che but i gotta ask....whats the word on condemned?

There's no "respawning" in co-op. The surviving player has to find their dead partner and heal them -- which has no penalty on the lower difficulty levels but will cost you some health on the harder ones.
Now that's cool. Can you imagine the arguments of "can you spare some health to respawn me".

the word is that condemned kinda rocks, although it really doesn't show very well at a rave-like environment like X05 was tonight.

i haven't played it since E3 so i'm going to do so tomorrow, and hopefully, there won't be shitty belgium hard house doing the jackhammer in the auditorium all day long so i can actually get some ambience up in this shit.

Failing for you but not for me, Rare are just beginning to show signs of their former selves

PDZ looks great, gameplay sounds hot, IGN, 1up and Gamespot seem to like it and from what i've seen im happy. Kameo and PDZ look like winners (from various gameplay discriptions ive read) thats all that matters.

I'm waiting for this video before I humble myself. I'm almost in disbelief given the media already released. So how are the enemy models up close?

Crow is usually served for something that defies the criticism. You don't even need a high-end PC to see graphics this good. Take any recent PC game and crank the graphics settings to max. You're not gonna keep a good framerate if your card sucks, but you're gonna see visuals better than this. Crow is being served like friggin french fries here. Just tossing it out for any old piece of shit that comes down the pike. PD0 is still the visual abortion it has always been. It has a few more layers of polish to it, but it's still a turd. PEACE.

che for the love of god was new york pgr3 shown?

From Gamespot's PGR3 hands-on

The multiplayer race on the streets of New York that marked the end of our time with Project Gotham Racing 3 was a hotly contested affair between four X05 attendees, including a representative of Bizarre Creations.

Oh, on gameplay, I'm not gonna complain. PD ain't my cup of tea. No console fps is TBH. I'm not gonna knock Rare on gameplay. GE is still my favorite console fps to this day. But this is not easy on the eyes. PEACE.

I believe he was referring to the gameplay impressions. Personally I can deal with how the game looks as long as the gameplay is that good and refreshing which it sounds like it may. I just haven't seen anything in the released videos that makes me believe the gameplay makes up for the character models. Granted most vids have been relatively short. Nice to to know that your actions might affect the outcome of future missions hopefully they make it seamless.

Haven't you dissappeared yet? :lol you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. You're confident PDZ is a turd, despite positive impressions from practically EVERY game site on the net that has actually played it? (edit: seriously. even the most negative impressions were, at worst, guarded praise) WTF, bud. Either you're posting from 2 months in the future, or from a crackhouse.

And to borrow your footer for EVERY post--

"PEACE!"

This forum is such a fucking embarassment. With everything that's been written about how fun PD0 is to play, the only thing you tards can focus on is a frame of animation frozen in time. Makes me wonder if any of you even play games or just stare at them like the retards you all are.
