holy crap. just got home from riding in a downpour. Some of the most painful raindrops on my face ever. I had to pull over cause my goggles were so fogged.

What are some full face helmets yall recommend? Pref with a retro look.

Not sure I'd recommend it, cus I don't really know much about it, but I've always liked this helmet in white.

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bell-bullitt-helmet

It's a little pricey though. What helmet are you using now?

The only full face retro lids I know of are the Bell ones.

Other than that I'll always recommend Arai/Shoei on comfort alone, but it depends what your budget is...

Guy in the car obviously crashed because he tried to swerve into the bike. Which means I'm siding with the guy on the bike here, regardless of his stupidity.

I must say, the guy on the bike was a complete idiot, but I'm impressed he was able to stay upright with a fucking car ramming him into the middle divider.

Oh I'm not taking sides with the car driver, but my adage is always 'it doesn't matter who's right when you're the one going to the hospital'

I attempt a live and let live policy, it's the only way I can avoid going insane on the road with so many inattentive drivers

Every OT thread involving motorcyclists is a shitshow.

Ain't that the truth.

As for the vid, I wanna see what happened that lead up to that guy kicking the car. I wanna reserve judgement till then, but I will say that it sure as shit seemed like the car intentionally tried to smash into that dude.

Holy shit. No kidding.

9 out of 10 motorcyclists I see everyday in SoCal drive like reckless pieces of shit.

..........
Honestly, as someone who has under 2 years of riding, I'm starting to find out people actively hate motorcyclists. But I don't blame them. I do hold them accountable when they assume ALL motorcyclists though. Some motorcyclists do ruin it for everyone else. I just wish they'd realise I'm not like that.

So far though, I haven't really had any negative experiences or any type of road rage against me other than one time (impatient driver overtook me on a right turn only as soon as the red light changed to green). You guys think it's the type of bike I ride and my hi viz jacket which removes whatever stigma drivers have against bikers? Not sure but I kinda tend to believe that.

I ride in the north bay area and everyone around here is very considerate. I think it depends on where you are, even in CA.

Hmmm... That would make more sense.

I'll be honest, personally, not a fan. Mostly because my preferences are with Japanese bikes.
GAF hates bikers and in many cases feels we deserve death. I don't bother with any thread involving a motorcycle any more.
Hating the most vulnerable type of transportation. Seems legit. BTW, getting the bike on the center stand using that 2x4 is much easier. Doing it without is still hard. I guess I just have to practice more.

Glad my little tip helps! Just give it time and you'll be fine, 6 years ago last month I was learning to ride and it took me 10 minutes to put a little 125cc on it's centre, now I pop the huge R1150R on the centre first time.

My only other tip is to make sure both sides of the stand are on the ground before you start putting it up

This is a slim design custom.

I don't like the overall look, but I really do appreciate the engineering result. The one thing I do like is the tank design, it's really reminiscent of early 20th century bikes, before the modern tank shape was standardized

Are you heading to Bahnstormer for the BBQ?

How are they with late-notice/turn up and ask test rides? I was thinking of trying to get a go on that Urban GS and/or the R1200RS

I'm at home now resting up with ice packs and pain meds. Better then hospital or morgue.

Car turned right in front of me while I was checking mirrors. No time to react and hit him at 60kph.

Bike isn't too bad but maybe forks. Def a radiator then plastics and pipe etc. Couldnt tell what it did as I was flying through the sky landing head first on the bitumen

But that thread already had me angry enough reading it and now i was almost killed by the exact kinda anti biker fuckwit that posted in it...

Sounds like a standard SMIDSY then. People just don't look well enough. I'm glad you're ok and hope the drivers insurance will cover the bike

That's why I didn't read it. It's always the same posts, either rationalizing that we're all assholes, or telling hilarious stories about using their vehicle as a weapon

Exactly what the driver said. Inexcusable imho

There's a good video on looming and why drivers do this that I posted in this thread a while back. It should be on the car test, a cursory glance just isn't good enough. And that's me giving him/her the benefit of the doubt and assuming they even attempted to look.

They are all good with that. I never really book just turn up and let them know you want to test ride. Most of the rides are 20-30min wait.

Damn man that's crazy glad you're alright. Good thing the ride isn't too messed up either.

Will have a better look tomorrow but bikes get written off easily here in aus. If that happens itll become dedicated dirt bike and get a second bike I think

Ah nice one. I may try and get down tomorrow if I'm about, otherwise I'll book something in July. I have 4 bikes on my "next bike" list and two are BMWs. Not planning on buying for a year or two but I like having a savings target.

It's the same here in the UK. Hopefully if you want to keep the bike you'll be able to get a payout and the opportunity to buy the bike back from them at a nice discount, which is what normally happens here

Same thing here but really hard to get them back on the road at that point.

That's a shame. The rules here for bikes are weirdly lax, you just have to get them reregistered and tested, only cars need the full safety inspection

If a vehicle had been written off here regardless of being due to costs being to high or structural damage they need specific safety inspections before being re registered :/

What bikes are on your list?

Ducati Multistrada (may discount for the same reason I will eventually sell the monster, dealer moved away)
rNineT Urban GS
R1200RS
Africa Twin

I'd like something I can comfortably take up to the Scottish Highlands or down to Switzerland. The Urban GS is a bit of a wildcard but I just think its super cool

I am keen to try it out too as the front screen might make the difference on the longer trips. The front screen is a whopping £320.

320 quid? It had better be hand-made by the finest german engineers for that much. I'd still buy it though because I am a sucker. See: £180 carbon fibre keyguard on the Ducati

I think the RS may be a more likely purchase for me, it's a bit more practical and I still love the look. I am really keen on the Africa Twin too, but I'm skeptical that the parallel twin engine will be as dull as the one on my old Bonneville.

It's kinda hard to change people's minds (even between yourself) on what bike they will choose. Looks like you've already made up your mind. Though, I'm riding a single cylinder, how bad can a parallel twin be? Are you looking at the DCT or manual AT's? Either way, you know bike's more than I do so I'm pretty sure you'll end up with what makes you happiest the most. The Multistrada was such a nice bike when I had my limited time with it though.

Oh yes 320 UK pounds. That Africa Twin looks like and awesome all day bike. If you happy with the power and the height its good. The price is also really good.

The parallel on the Bonneville had a very even power delivery, so it was just a bit dull, no real punch. I have heard that the engine on the Honda is actually very good though, so I'm keen to try it out! I absolutely love the tricolour one with the gold wheels. The bike is very affordable too, I could actually afford to buy a new one. Both the RS and Multistrada I'd have to get used.

As a dark horse, I actually do like the VFR1200X a lot as well, but the Africa Twin is definitely a bike that will stand the test of time, IMO

In the end it'll come down to which puts the smile on my face. That's how I ended up with the Monster when I was sure I was going to get something else.

Glad you're ok SatansReverence, that's some scary stuff.

While that other thread is tough to read, it's a good reminder to see those reactions every once in awhile to have in the back of your mind while riding. I drive as if everyone else is negligent( while on my bike, motorcycle and truck) but it's still a good reminder that there are many drivers out there who get angry or anxious just seeing a motorcycle near them.
