Not really for the genres I listen to...for the last year or so I was kinda bummed out because the genres I listen to were really influenced by trance/drance/commercial crap. So I went to Freeform/Finnish Hardcore in recluse.

Things don't seem to be changing that much. Freeform, Gabber and Finnish Hardcore aren't changing that much...the trancey happy hardcore is staying the same...

Oddly the tracks I'm interested in are really mellow happy hardcore stuff...I guess we can thank Makina for that kind of influence.
Seduction and Gammer - "Running"

Sy and Unknown - "Sounds of the Underground"

So yeh...this year has been pretty meh for me.

How was 2004 a bad year for music? I thought that popular music in the UK was finally turning a corner away from the shite that has been dominating the charts over the past few years. To name a few there was albums from:

Thirteeen Senses
Snow Patrol
Razorlight
Kasabian
Keane
The Zutons
The Killers
The Futureheads

2004 was a great year for British music with so many great new bands coming on the scene. I know The Killers aren't British butr come on, the sound more British than almost any other band out there. If 2005 has even half as many great new bands as 2004 then I'll be laughin.

In the UK this year looks as though it will be dominated by some of the older bands except for maybe Kaiser Chiefs. Oasis and Coldplay both have new albums out around the same time so the summer charts will be dominated by them.

three of the best current bands. gonna be great
Deftones?
Team Sleep?
Thursday?

C'mon, Em. :p

I'm also looking forward to Finch's new material (got a taste of it live back in December), as well as A Static Lullaby's.

The first LP from Yesterdays Rising (an underground hardcore band from nearby SoCal) should be amazing, too. I got to see them perform at my school last year, and will be seeing them again on Sunday. With as much talent as they have, I can easily see them becoming huge in a year or so's time (and the average age of the band is 19!), especially after they play Warped Tour this summer.

Not enough Garbage in this thread...

Not a perfect album, but WAY better than Beautiful Garbage. With the heavy guitars in most of the tracks, it sounds closest to their debut album to me. Added bonus: Dave Grohl plays drums on 'Bad Boyfriend'. I also dig the Fight Club sample at the beginning of 'Boys Wanna Fight'. Nice touch.

Some details regarding the new Super Furry Animals album have surfaced, and they make me pretty confident it's going to be the album to beat.

And yeah, the British Sea Power album rules. As does Malkmus's new album.

You have listened to it? ARGH I CAN'T TOLERATE YOUR EXISTENCE.

I really, really, really liked Pig Lib and the first one, and I still listen to them (especially Pig Lib) a lot.

What details are those?

And guys, I wouldn't get too excited about a new Lips album this year. Their touring drummer says it's not gonna happen. It took them like two months to record three songs!

hahahaha, you'll love it then, dude. People either really like his solo output or find it boring, and I'm in the former camp. You won't be disappointed.

And Mifune, I'll send you a PM regarding SFA. No, it's not MP3s or anything, people - it's just a really in-depth article on SFA and their new album.

Oddly enough, about the Flaming Lips, Gruff says one set of lyrics for one of the new songs is about The Flaming Lips.

Shit, I didn't realize there was that much stuff coming out.

TMV and QOTSA albums were both good, but letdowns compared to their previous works.

I was already looking forward to Tool, and because my friend reminds me all the time, Dream Theater. I know Enimem likes them too, I'm surprised he didn't mention it. But Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, and Muse? That'd be sweet.

This is the year of the Switchfoot. New album out in July.

Probable songs/possible album titles:

Daisy - not likely an album title, but has an outside shot. Mellow song, maybe an accoustic final version
Without Borders (Without Politicians) - too generic to be an album title
Turn off the Lights (Take a Look at the Stars) - likely title? This song has a killer riff in it
Happy is a Yuppy Word - great song, could be a unique album title

speedpop

Glad to see there's at least one other fellow NJ fan around here. O' God is a pretty sweet album, I listened to the full thing at least 10 times last night while proceeding write a government paper and not sleep. :lol

The Mountain Goats - Sunset Tree

New Mountain Goats album!! yeah, I am excited (though I dont think anyone listens to TMG here =( ). I heard Dance Music live, and it was great. Can't wait for this album. April will be a busy month, Of Montreal, British Sea Power, the Mountain Goats!

The first tuesday of April has:

New Britsh Sea Power, Magnolia Electric Co., The Books, and Okkervil River. Shit.

This is a good year.

New Xiu Xiu this summer, a pAper chAse/Xiu Xiu split, new White Stripes, shit, the hitz just keep on coming. Hopefully Mclusky releases that singles collection this year...

demon: Moistboyz should be this summer, with a tour. Ween may tour this summer as well, but it's not confirmed yet. New Ween album would probably be late 2005/spring 2006. They don't want to wait 3 years between albums again, but they've had stuff come up. At least there's a new Chocodog web-only release up for sale soon-ish.

My favorite albums this year so far are Digital Ash in a Digital Urn by Bright Eyes, Justamustache by Thunderbirds are Now!, and I am a Bird Now by Antony & The Johnsons. Goddamn I love having all this music.

Rumor has it that Corgan's solo album is to be called "TheFutureEmbrace," but I'm not so sure about that because I believe the title came from a spoof of his journal that people thought was legit.

Diablos, do me a favor and get pumped up for the SFA album that's coming out this year. Doing that will make me love and respect you. Especially if you like it.

Receptacle for the Respectable, Hermann Loves Pauline, Demons, (Drawing) Rings Around the World, Slow Life, The Piccolo Snare, Mountain People, Ymaelodi A'r Ymylon, Shoot Doris Day, Run! Christian! Run!, Ice Hockey Hair, Northern Lites, Night Vision - the list goes on.

They're like the British equivalent of The Flaming Lips, except I like them better and not really. That's just my little point of reference. There's really no way to define them.

And you're always accusing me of pretension and stuff, so if you were to actually hear my favorite band, you'd be pretty amazed by how warm, friendly, and fun they sound. Essentially, they're the total opposite of my board persona.

Knowing your tastes Diablos, I think you'd do well to try "Hermann Loves Pauline" first.

I foresee SFA being your new favorite band. The only other alternative is not liking them, which would mean you suck.

Oh man, Sal, the new album sounds like it's going to be incredible. From an article I read:

Perhaps the most impressive song on the new album is Zoom (aka Horse). The song opens with vibraphonic keyboards and a persistent beat of a hi-hat. Before long, strange lyrics come in about the Virgin Mary crying a food of blood and being sent to the eye-doctor. Then the chorus repeats: I can't get enough of this, kiss me with apoca-lips. About two thirds of the way through, an ominous Ennio Morricone-esque choir takes over, chanting, followed by guitar solos and strings, and then more choir, until finally devolving into a mini jam session. It's the most epic, mind-blowing song you'll likely hear this year.

They apparently commissioned a 25-person choir for a couple of songs.

I'm seriously like, I don't even know. And then I read they want to tour wearing light suits that are somehow tied into the music. And shit. Swdjaihfaihfishgishgishg I'm excited.

Jesus, that sounds insane! I'm soooo looking forward to this record. With that description you provided, my excitement shot up a few notches more.

"Apoca-lips". Awesome.

New Eels double album out in a couple of weeks....Early reviews suggest it could even surpass Electro-Shock Blues.

What with some fine releases already & Eels & Billy Corgan yet to come, 2005 is shaping up very nicely indeed. Even the risible Stereophonics, a band I'm always quick to mock, have put out some fantastic songs this year (I'm thinking 'Dakota' in particular).

I'm looking forward to the new Bruce Dickinson cd due out in May (here's hoping it sounds almost as good as Chemical Wedding, easily one of the best metal albums ever) and hopefully new records by both Rage and Symphony X. Also, I'll most probably pick up the latest Helloween album due out in October (despite their previous effort which was somewhat lacking).

The new Eels album has already been leaked. It's quite good.

Basically, the songs that you hated on Souljacker and Shootenanny are not here. E is reverting back to a more death-conscious, intimate sort of writing but with his trademark irony with immature cussing.

However, it's just too long. The material isn't interesting enough for 2CDs and most of the tracks sound similar to his eariler work.

I'm not huge into music but these guys were being pimped quite heavily on local radio last month and I really got into the title track of their album. The origin of their full name is also a quirky tale.

same on our local station, "monster of an album" says rolling stones mag

i must say i am hooked on their song "rest will follow," awesome song, the bass drum kicks all kind of ass in that song
