That's JPG compression for you.Wonder what's going on with that sky banding.
That's JPG compression for you.
Hope you aren't implying Dennis used a compressed .jpg
Because that's just shitty in-game sky textures.

Of course he isn't, he's implying that inifinity ward used a compressed jpg for their skybox which they most assuredly did.
Then I would have to post huge 2560 x 1600 images that people can't really see without scrolling left and right. So people are just going to scroll past them and not bother.
We had the same discussion in the previous thread. Its an annual tradition!
Plus if you can run it at 2560x1600 then you can also run it at 1920x1080 2xSSAA. Still represents a playable screen, so I don't see the issue.
That's what I don't get. It's not an unattainable image quality like some seem to think. It's not like anyone's posting bullshit artshots that are rendered at 16,000x9,000 in here. They're all resized from perfectly playable resolutions provided you have the rig for it. I don't see the issue.
I'm surprised you'd even dare post a screen with that ground texture!
But you can use downsampling in realtime. I do it all the time. Still, explaining which settings were used for screenshots is never a bad thing. It has nothing to do with how playable the resolution is, the 'issue' is the fact that it's an enhanced image outside of the game. Downsampling a screenshot basically adds magical AA and IQ due to crispier everything and compressing an already dense pixel structure even tighter. Then people start to wonder how they achieved this great IQ, what settings etc. when most of the work has been done by the downsampling, it creates a stunning IQ at times.
I think people should downsample images, makes for better pictures and stops this thread being a sidescroll adventure but they still need to be labelled as downsampled when it's done and people need to be aware so they aren't being 'fooled' into thinking that's how the game looks in action.

As I use a HDTV Nvidia disable GPU scaling for me, so I can't. I've considered EDID hacking but then I'm worried it'll mess up 3DTV Play which is something I've paid for.
I know there's supersampling options in Nvidia inspector but results and support is so patchy.
Yes you CAN but that's not what is being done to many images, they are merely downsampled outside of the game. As I said, I think it should be done but the posters should also inform about in the post, simply because I've seen far too many "Oh how do you achieve that" when it's just basic settings and a hefty downsample that does it all.
Yeah, I don't really understand why they don't allow you to simply set resolutions completely independently of the output device. It shouldn't be a problem to do that in the driver. As I use a HDTV Nvidia disable GPU scaling for me, so I can't. I don't see the difference really, it achieves the same result. If you're using GPU scaling then FRAPs will capture the image before its downsampled anyway, leaving you with little other option.
People just need to label their shots and not to post images that aren't achievable in real time.
Fine, let's just enhance all our images through photoshop and claim there's a graphical option that is able to do that, we aren't using it, maybe our setup won't handle it, our FPS will tank or monitors won't support it BUT IT CAN BE DONE!
Guys can we also start tweaking everything from contrasts, brightness, tones, hues and what else you have because that is technically also available both through control panels and monitor settings.
Oh and lots of sharpening too! My monitor can do that.
Sarcasm may have been applied.
How about we use this thread to post images of how our games actually look and when you do anything to it through third party software, you state it in the post? If you use actual hardware downsampling then that's how your playing and no need to state anything.
That downsample Nvidia trick that is floating around doesn't even work for everyone.
Cool, then no need to say anything. This thread is for posting pics of your actual playing settings, no one here is doing anything to the contrary as far as I know.
Are you kidding me? Tons of people are downsampling through image software in here, let's not start acting stupid now. Then someone comes along, ask how to achieve that IQ and people beat around the fucking bush talking about AA
and certain graphical options when you could just have told them, it's downsampled via Photoshop ( or whatever )
But those are still their playing settings. Nothing's been altered or fabricated, and, were they playing at 1920x1080, that's exactly how it would look.
If someone asks what my settings are, or what mods I have installed, I'll gladly tell them, but I'm not going to preface every post with 3 lines of information. I hardly ever play a game with stock settings, so if you see me post a screen of something, chances are it's been altered somehow.
Is the difference really enough to warrant all this stupid whining?

Well I fixed my crashing issues. The game doesn't like the newest PhysX drivers, deleted those and installed the ones that come with the game and it's been smooth sailing since.
As for the whole resizing issue? The difference is negligible.
For instance:

Looking forward to contributing again in 2012. I was banned for Skyrim do I mised out on that. What is the next big PC graphics whore release?
Nice feet, lol.
Diablo 3
And seriously X: Rebirth, but dunno when it will be out. Guild Wars 2 can be beauty too.
I'm not suggesting everyone does this but if you're actually playing with downsampling enabled, then do you believe having people to post the raw 3840x2160p image is a better solution? Not only is it actually not representative of what they're seeing ingame but it makes the thread impossible to navigate.
We just need honesty from posters, and for people to only post downsampled shots when it represents what they're actually doing ingame.
Also if you are downsampling then you should never be posting images anything smaller than 1680x1050.

is the emoticon for sarcasm....right?
Sure, if people don't want to state it's downsampled, at least don't bullshit people who ask, I've seen way too many people ask and just a bunch of bullshit answers.

That better not be aimed at me. I have never claimed that my screenshots were originally captured at 1680 x 1050.
