Last year my list featured Carly Rae Jepsen and Ke$ha in the top 10 so no one should necessarily be listening to me btw.

Beautiful Rewind was fine and all, Four Tet is just the definition of a 6 out of 10 artist. He shoots to be the common denominator of scarf music and I guess he does it but how anyone could really care about that is a bit beyond me.

Pause and Rounds are 2 of the best albums of all time in my opinion. Four Tet hasn't really done much but tread water since Ringer in 2008 but before that the dude was in a league of his own.

"Electronica" is not a genre. This ridiculous neologism needs to be retired permanently.

It's also been a pretty wonderful year for electronic music. In particular, there's been a series of stellar synth-based ambient and deep house albums released this year, not to mention the nearly endless supply of catchy electro-pop albums. There was also, of course, the unclassifiable and incomparable Shaking the Habitual from this year.

I'll post a proper list later on, but I just wanted to counteract some of the more inane commentary from the peanut gallery in this thread.

i'll probably change this at some point but this is the list for now.

Phoenix was probably my biggest disappointment this year. I just didn't connect with Bankrupt at all and really dislike Entertainment. Love the guys though and still on the lookout to see what they come out with next.

Gotta agree. Just didn't connect with the album either.

Where as RAM didn't live up to the hype I still sorta liked. Bankrupt hardly got any listens period post release week.

Would love to have a spotify playlist of these albums. I don't know where I'd rank what I've listened to this year, but these threads always expose me to old or new artists and albums from artists I like that didn't know released new material.

However pretentious the shit around her music might be, you can’t change two things: those synths. Those bass lines. Mmmmm.

Ah, what Bounty counts as is kinda weird. Most of the tracks on it have been around for like three or four years, they're singles that were always meant to end up as Bounty the album but were just recently put together. There's a good chance you've heard most of the record already. I've been wearing Y out for like three years already. Just finally got a physical release. It's easy to have missed.

Kin was no joke, Play is an AMAZING ass track. God tier, would take on a desert island level amazing. Best thing she's ever done. I don't even know how a person wakes up in the morning and goes to work on shit knowing they have to live up to a track like Play.

Got into more atmospheric electronic music this year. Great year overall.

I feel like I listened to all the wrong new albums this year. I spent way more of my time discovering artist's back catelogues than their new stuff. I didn't even thing the albums that made it into my list were that "great." Most of them were just the few albums that got repeat listens over the course of the year. edit: Oh I need 10 in my list? I guess I can throw some of these on to fill out the list.
