Wow.

Line up: Courtois, Alderweireld, Van Buyten, Kompany, Vertonghen, Witsel, Dembele, Chadli, De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku

Not a bad starting line-up.

why are you describing Ronaldo

Ronaldo can never consistently take on 4
Defenders at once. He is only good when he is free kicking

Messi is a decent free kicker but he has what every legendary footballer has, the ability to weave through 5 defenders to get a shot on goal. In the Bosnia game there were 3 defenders man marking Messi at the minimum and 5 on average.

Ghana is clearly better at attacking right now, Altidore might not be a world class striker (lol) but he's our starter for a reason. He was the best we had available. I wonder if Wondalowski gets a start in the next game, Johannson could be the future but I don't know if he's physical enough yet to handle it. Klinsmann did a great job with subs last night, John Brooks and Zusi were great choices. Brooks had a couple missteps defensively, but as he settled in he made some good plays.

Germany is undoubtedly awesome, but I didn't see anything out of Portugal to tell me that they can dominate the rest of the group. If anything, they should be very worried. They couldn't put anything together offensively and they're down a starting defender, plus they had to run their asses off the last game.
Yeah. I really hope Klinsmann adjusts our attacking formation somehow to account for losing Altidore. Once he went down, the attack mostly fell apart, and I wouldn't see that changing much against Portugal if we keep the same lineup (but playing Johannson, of course). I almost want to see Zusi starting to give us a better possession game, though I don't know who he would replace without sacrificing a lot of defense.

I guess it will also help the US attack if Bradley plays at least mediocre rather than terrible. The main creative force in the midfield needs to connect on passes.

At least Portugal looks like a bunch of individuals playing on the same field like they usually do.

I think it's inevitable that the U.S. will win a World Cup within the next 30 years. The sport is gaining a lot of popularity here and more and more parents will put there kids into soccer.

We're a country of 300 Million with the possibility of the best training and facilities in the world.

BTW how did China a country of 1 Billion not make the World Cup?

Because China is making money and us athletes get paid that money from the money us borrows. China does have a soccer program but its unfocused unlike us which makes sport a career

lol Fellaini banished

At last a team with a few Tottenham players, I guarantee Vertonghen will play like shit.

Hope Bentaleb starts for Algeria.

The story was almost too good to be true. John Brooks, a 21-year-old centre-back who had never played in an official game for the USA, coming off the bench to score an 86th-minute winner in their World Cup opener against Ghana on Monday night. So improbable was it all that ESPN’s commentator, Ian Darke, promptly exclaimed: “He couldn’t even have dreamt it”.

Except, Brooks had done exactly that. Two days earlier, to be precise.

“Yeah, it’s unbelievable,” said Brooks after the game. “I said I had a dream, I told some team-mates that I dreamed that I had scored in the 80th minute and we won the game. Now it [turned out to be] the 86th minute and we won the game, so that was good.”

Well ok then.

Went to bed with a GHA - USA game at 0 - 1, and wake up to a 1 - 2 score.

You done good, guys. You done good. That's exactly what I predicted! :)

Why does Wilmots hate Serie A? No Nainggolan in the squad and Chadli starting over Mertens?

Belgium are basically Tottenham + Hazard, so they're guaranteed to flop. Also fuck them for being seeded in the first pot after 12 years of failing to even qualify to any tournament, while World Cup and Euro runners up were not. FIFA pls

At the stadium now for Belgium x Argelia. Lots of argelian supporters, way more than i imagined. Amazing atmosphere, lets hope for a great game!

Sure, but that one was especially bad from a guy who is paid pretty well to do better than that.

When pro athletes make really bad plays on a big stage, they tend to get mocked pretty heavily. Hell, the Butt Fumble has a more detailed page on wikipedia than many of the players in this World Cup.

He was obviously expecting the dude to jump. He scored a goal like that before.

- Deadline: Ghana v USA Nets Its ESPN Highest Ever Overnight Rating For A Men’s World Cup Match
ESPN‘s broadcast of Team USA’s World Cup match against Ghana on Monday night averaged a 7.0 overnight rating. This was the first time out for the U.S. side during the event — and saw the men face off with the team that has eliminated them at each of the past two World Cups. ESPN says the U.S.’ 2-1 victory reps the highest overnight rating ever for a men’s World Cup match on ESPN or ESPN2. (The network started receiving local ratings for the World Cup in 1998.) The top five metered markets were Washington, DC (11.8), New York (10.2), Hartford-New Haven (10.1), Boston (10.0) and Columbus, Ohio (8.9). ESPN says Boston’s score is the highest overnight ever in the market on any network for the men’s World Cup.

Where abouts in USA does soccer get the most attention? i dont think i remember you guys being that hyped for soccer sports a decade ago. Glad ya'll changed :)
I have zero stats but it seems to pretty pretty popular here in Southern California. Portland and Seattle also have good reputations for their MLS crowds.

@Ourand_SBJ: USA-Ghana did a 14.4 in NYC on ESPN/Univision combined. The average of all Jets/Giants games last season in NY was 14.1 across FOX/CBS/NBC.

Futbol beating football? Imagine that.
