2014 Microsoft E3 Conference

Won't penalized MS because of the leak but I'd give it a B. Xbox One will have nice stretch of games beginning with Destiny in Sept., Sunset in Oct., and Halo in Nov.

I guess MS went with the "no gimmicks" approach. The Kinectless SKU, paywall drop, and everything from the past month would have made for a great show but today was pretty much just a recap.

Best not to focus on reversing course on things people told you day 1 that they didn't want but you were too arrogant to care. So a no-brainer releasing that stuff before E3 and not making a thing of it on the big stage.

If I had an Xbone and it was where I played all my games, I would probably give the conference an A.

As someone who owns a PS4 and plays most of my games there and is looking for a reason to buy an Xbone, I give the conference a C.

Isn't that kind of what he's referring to Scalebound was leaked, Crackdown was leaked, Halo collection was leaked. Every major exclusive was leaked for this conference.

Ntkrnl really did drop almost everything.

If "if it didn't leak," counts, then MS had surprise announcements of Halo Collection, Crackdown, Phantom Dust, and Scalebound.

It read like you were saying there won't be anymore huge announcements at E3 because developers don't want to. If something leaks it's not the developers or Sony/MS fault.

We knew about all those games by the way.

I have to disagree about the price drop. If they announced the removal of Kinect on that stage then that is all people would have talked about instead of focusing on the games. I think MS announcing the price drop early was a smart move

Yeah that's the point. That would of been a big surprise out of nowhere.

As a Xbox One owner, 8.5/10. As a Halo fan and purely looking at Halo today, 10/10. Just knowing that the Arbiter is back for Halo 5 and that the multiplayer for Halo 1,2,3, and 4 are all left like they were but with faster frame rates and on dedicated servers.

I don't get all the hate for CG though, as those games are farther away from being released. I am sure you will see gameplay for those at next E3.

Very solid conference from MS overall because it showed a lot of games and less PR speech.

Spencer listened to my advice and skipped using a jacket with a t-shirt. Thank you Phil. +1

When they said all will be games, games, games, two things popped into my mind; one: yes, and then two: many of the people with the MS GAF bingo cards not producing bingos.

At the end though, I thought they could have at least addressed some future features of the bone. Could it be that it was too much about the games in the end?

- Crackdown, always good. I liked the first so nice to see a return
- Sunset overdrive, "what the hell, only cgi trailer... oh wait yes, gameplay good good"
- Halo re-mastered quadrilogy, I think it was a nice. The mix-up of favorite moments option was a nice touch for old fans.
- DA: inquisition, music choice was weird and the scenes didn't really deflect the game that much. Might be good or bad. Don't know.
- Fable, Didn't lit my world on fire, but I never was a Fable fan.
- Scalebound, can't say anything about it really with CGI only. I hope it's a good Colossus style game.
- CoD - Matt Daaaamon edition. I am not a CoD man but this is too much same old with a few tweaks on top of the old.
- I have no idea what is Phantom Dust so this thing did nothing for me. Should have been a bit more revelatory for noobs like me.
Rest I don't remember. Might revise the list later.

I think many of the games had bad trailers (scripted/acted shit inserted), so they have a chance to actually be good later. I am giving almost everyone the benefit of the doubt.

So you actually believe a developer saying it was running in-engine?

Like most developers, they lie.

Any time I hear in-engine, I think of CGI, everytime I hear running on "so and so console" I think of in-engine or highest detail on PC.
The trailer confirmed it.
The developers confirmed it afterwards.

What more do you want?

Ready At Dawn must be really happy reading these posts.

All I know is Sony's silence was for the better. If you're going to talk the talk, you'd better walk the walk. I have zero expectations going into both Sony and Nintendo's shows, and that's a good thing.

Exactly, honestly wasn't bothered by the CG

Sorry guys, i'm at work. Can someone let me know what new exclusives were announced at this conference? I'll watch the whole thing this afternoon, but I need to know :)

That huge leak didn't do MS any favors.

Talk about a let down, this is why you don't get hyped over a conference.

For all the big hoopla over Phil Spencer, I was expecting Microsoft to really come out swinging. I thought it was going to rain exclusives, but uh...outside of Scalebound there was nothing new to get excited over.
Fable Legends did nothing for me really, nor does a remake of a Halo I had to force myself to finish. I guess it's telling that Bungie's multiplayer is the one people want to play as 343 can't cut it I guess.
Crackdown we'll be seeing again next year. Probably thrown in there just to add an exclusive to the show.

Don't mean to sound bitter, but I let myself fall for the Phil Spencer jibber jabber. On the contrary I'm not excited at all for any other conferences, so that's good. Sony and Nintendo should easily clean Microsoft's clock this year as far as announcements go. This morning I was excited to buy an X1. Now I'm sorta eh, no rush. We'll see.

Yeah. He was hype up to be some kind of savior for Xbox. I was expecting a megaton from him similar to Don Mattrick's FF13 announcement for 360. And Don talking about "we're stealing the Playstation exclusives" up on stage with confidence was crazy.

All that CG..

Anyway, I'll see what the holiday season looks like for exclusives, might jump in on Black Friday. I don't see myself buying multiplats on Xbone, timed-exclusive DLC isn't a fair trade off for lesser performance.

Yeah, the Halo collection "sold" the Xbox One to me. I say "sold" because "no kinect. $100 cheaper" had sold me on it originally, but man, that collection is worth it for Halo CE and 2's multiplayer alone :P

As someone who already owns an Xbone and usually can't find an excuse to use it, I give this conference a B-. Halo (an HD remaster) was the highlight. A MonHun/Platinum game sounds cool in theory, so hopefully it turns out well. Too much CG, thank god for no Kinect (even though I have one).

Eh, you could have gotten Kinect+game for 430ish range last month, probably still can right now.
Why get an inferior SKU without a Kinect for 400?

Really they should learn from Ubisoft. The Division an Watch Dogs had colossal reveals due to showing gameplay that wowed many. Though that gameplay was not entirely representative the point still is gameplay is key.

Then get ripped to shreds by gaf for graphics downgrade! Yeah, that's the way to go.

Not to mention that once the Kinectless consoles go on sale (today), you'll be able to sell that Kinect you don't want for some amount of money on Ebay. Probably more than $30-$50...

MS's E3 was in February (Ntkrnl leak). Wonder if anyone is still on #TeamControlledLeaker?...The leak was basically their conference.

People want to be "wowed" and "surprised" during E3 conferences.

I see. Personally, I prefer to judge e3 conferences by content, not by entertainment value. Otherwise, Konami would always be king.

Sooo, people didn't like it because most stuff got leaked beforehand? How is that bad?

Shhh that's logical; we can't have that get in the way of our warring.

Pretty stoked for Halo & Sunset Overdrive; sad to see no Gears or RPGs. (Fable doesn't count)

I'll be getting one in December unless Sony gets me some more games; my PS4 isn't even my Netflix box any more. :-/

More importantly that massive thread from Gamepsot about a big third party exclusive with people suggesting stuff like Mass Effect, Dragons Dogma 2, GTA turned out to not only be a Platinum game but also one we knew of due to leaks.

Halo....Halos everywhere

That was an alright conf. They pretty much showed games all the way as they said. But nothing was really exciting.

Sony can win E3 easily if they play it right

GTA V - timed exclusive 2014
TLG
Proj. Beast
No CG BS trailers

If they do this, it will be over.
Why would GTA 5 be timed? Where do people get these ideas?

Yea, I agree, just letting you know why most people were dissapointed.

Personally I thought it was a good showing with a ridiculous amount of content. Just, no big "bombs" or anything like that. But I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed because I already knew about a lot of the stuff from previous leaks (it's my own fault, of course, oh well). Still a good showing.

Well they focused on games. That's something I guess. But I have to put myself in the too jaded boat for console gaming at this point.

Everything is a bit prettier, a bit more extreme and a bit more coop, but new things are hard to come by these days it seems. But if you are an Xbox One owner lots of neat games are coming up with a somewhat diverese look. Can't hate on that.

I am beyond disappointed. I even went to their Pre E3 event because I am such a big MS fan. More than half of the show was all 3rd party games that have already been announced.

Evolve, Witcher 3, Call of Duty, The Division, Assassins Creed, Tomb Raider, etc. Stop wasting our time. Last years press conference was amazing and was all about exclusives and gameplay. This one was all about 3rd party multiplatform games and CG.

I bought my Xbox One on day one entirely based off of last years conference. This one makes me feel like I don't have much to look forward to. Bring back Banjo, Battletoads, or Conker, don't just tease us.

Fable Legends looked awful too. Overdrive looks great as always. As for the Platinum games thing, I can't judge it since it was all CG. Crackdown and Phantom Dust are too oddball for me, I see much more demand for Rare IPs than either of those.

Phil Spencer and Major both let us down.
