2014 Microsoft E3 Conference

I'm actually pretty excited for Halo: TMCC (wtf do we call this?) and Forza Horizon 2 but I found the conference pretty boring. No big "woah" moments and nothing they announced seemed all that interesting.

This sums up this E3 so far...

I don't caught up in the MS vs Sony stuff but I LOL'd at that.

Eh there's still Phantom Dust and Scalebound for me but other than that, I agree. If you're not sold on the XB1 there honestly wasn't much here to convince you otherwise. Shocked MS placed so much emphasis on multiplats though since all of them are guaranteed to run better on PS4.

Do you think they should have placed a disclaimer on the bottom of the screen? "Might look a little better on PS4*

Ignore those. Bias is everywhere.

Some of these comments like sunset overdrive being the same as crackdown and "cgi, cgi" make it hard to not believe there is a strong anti-MS bias out there.

To be honest, sunset overdrive is sort of similar only because of the jumping around to get to places. As far as cgi, whether it's Microsoft or Sony, or someone else, it doesn't impress.

Any stuff on the Dance Central game? Jeff on GiantBomb said it would use the previous games content as well? Great for me!

You seeing it that way is not surprising considering that's the company you enjoy most, defend the most, and feel the most sympathy for.

If you're purely into games then this one won't be easy to top that's for sure. Almost no talk during the whole press conference.

Looking forward to evolve, ac: unity, and halo collection this year. It was a good conference for sure but I was hoping for one more bomb.

Thought it was a decent conference. Like others said, they could have had a major pop moment if they announced a 399 sku at the end (or beginning) rather than leak it. MS is in a weird spot because I'm looking at all their multiplatform stuff (which is the focus of their conference) and thinking despite MS getting early dlc, the game will probably look and run better on PS4. Still getting an X1 for Halo 5, but I didn't see anything from them that made me want to get one this year. I'd give it a B.

That was fantastic. Best Microsoft show I have ever seen. Sunset Overdrive looks phenomenal. Scalebound is interesting and the Halo collection is something I'd be interested in. A couple interesting side-scroller things as well. Overall, interesting from beginning to end. I wasn't planning on purchasing an XBox One... But I'm reconsidering my position.

I was at work so I missed it but I'm watching the best parts. OMG at Tofu from RE2 in Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Remix Hyper Edition Ex alpha

Disagree. Phantom Dust was a huge suprise, but it's a niche game, Crackdown 3 was not that huge of a suprise, we knew it was coming, Sunset Overdrive looked amazing, best game there + a whole lot of indies that is also coming to PC. Halo collection was also very cool, but we knew it was coming and most people have probably played the games.

Im not saying it was bad, it was good, but not anything megatonish.

Giving it a strong 6/10.

Whether we knew if they were coming or not, it's always nice to have them officially confirmed. Personally, I think Microsoft showed me why I own an Xbox One, and why I should keep it. I was very impressed.

Phantom Dust and ScaleBound are enough for me to be pretty excite. I think Sunset Overdrive looks pretty rad too. I'm definitely happy that I have had an Xbone since launch after this conference. Only thing I was disappointed with was the fact that there wasn't any Gears of War tease. Maybe next year!

People yell at MS that they should put more games on PC, then they do and it's "lol, it's not XB1 exclusive, stupid".

MS can be proud for their stuff.

Tried to fix all their mistakes but it's still going to be a very tough race for them after their collosal fuckup with DRM/kinec/499$

remember how people said microsoft revealing halo, sunset, forza, pricecut, kinect removal was because they had too many megatons? Welp, looks like they should have kept them for e3 if they wanted to win.

jesus i still cant get over the fact that they havent shown anything gears related

i mean for fucks sake throw us a bone here. a simple screen with artwork or a cg trailer so we know where the series is heading.

waiting for next e3 then shit

They announced Black Tusk was making it like a couple months ago. And by the sounds of it they weren't working on it very long before then.

As a non-shooter fan, I didn't find anything that will make me run out and buy an XB1.

I'm glad the Nurburgring was added to FM5. I like what I'm seeing in FH2 already.
I already wanted Killer Instinct and the Season 2 reveal only adds to that desire.
Inside and Plague Inc have my interest, but I'm sure both will eventually be available on PC/PS4.

I'm still in the "buy @ slim" status for XB1.

Sunset Overdrive plays as an Ratchet and Clank game , the jumps , dinamic , weapons. Is like you control Ratchet but on a human form. That is not bad but seems just like a clone.

Solid conference.

Lots of good games coming, none of the exclusive DLC will stop me buying multiplats on PS4 though (fingers crossed those jaggies in the Division will be greatly reduced on PS4).

It's hard to fault this one, too much CG possibly but plenty of gameplay was shown, and at this stage of the generation it's to be expected.

Exclusives were exciting and varied, very glad I have an Xbox One.

8/10.

attended the conference. i thought it was pretty good. forza horizon 2, sunset overdrive, scalebound, fable legends, halo collection, crackdown 3... very solid list of games.

even stuff like the division and call of duty looked cool.
AND i just happened to get a pass to e3 along with the other fans in attendance. very nice indeed :)

Honestly, I'm very happy with their show. Almost every single thing they showed looked very good, some looked outstanding, and it was what I wanted; nothing but games. Most of what they showed stoked my early gen 360 nostalgia as well, and Crackdown, Phantom Dust, and Limbo are some of my favorite games, so those were all big hits with me, along with Forza, Halo, Platinum, Fable, some great looking indie stuff, and surprisingly outstanding looking third party stuff. It reminded me that I loved the 360 because of the games, and hopefully X1 is now on the path to doing that again for me.

I think if they had a big closer, a lot of people would be giving their show a 10/10. It's just that they closed on Crackdown/Phantom Dust/Platinum, and while I'm a huge fan of the lineage of all three, none of those are the big megaton-style announcements GAF craves.

I think I have a more positive look on this E3 so far.
MS showed up with games. Many many games.

But I think the big surprise for me was CO-OP.
Co-op is back, (never really left but wasn't a big deal) I think the majority of the games showed some amazing 4-8 player co-op.

Assassins Creed looked fun with that 4 player quest/mission
Sunset - 8 player something!
DR3 - 4 player DLC Co-OP
Halo - (some coop there)
Fable Legends - seems to have taken a notes from Zombi U multiplayer with the Villian aspect.
Evolve - Played this at PAX and it was amazing.

I say bring on the games! bring on the co-op

I agree. But I also wish the coop was local too. Almost everything shown will likely be online coop only.

Best conference ever.

Halo is all I need.

You haven't played those games already? They are all you need on your next gen console?

C- for this conference for me.

imo the most interesting game they showed (Evolve) is cross platform. Sunset Overdrive looks fun.

No Gears
No 360 price drop
No VR

I would have graded them worse but they've really begun to focus on games first. I applaud them for that.

SONY better not drop the ball.

This, I think a lot of gaffers were expecting actual megatons. Very weird they didn't just stick that 100$ pricedrop at the end here, would have made a splash at least.

C+

+Witcher 3 gameplay
+no filler tech/industry/#'s talk
+Sunset Overdrive gameplay
+no Kinect

-No megatons
-Majority of 1st party was GCI/baked footage
-too much focus on muti-platform games

Wonder what the people who thought that Fallout 4/Mass Effect/GTA5 would be Xbone exclusives are doing now.

Oh they will come back next E3, but now we have three events(Reveal, E32013,E32014) were not one megaton money hatted exclusive was shown. So when they bring it up again at E32015 we can point at them and laugh.

They showed games, but they were mostly cg.

That said I'm buying an Xbox one at some point this year just to play the halo collection. Having those games multiplayer will be so good.

I hope the platinum game is good but there's really no info on it from the show.

I just watched the Xbox breifing... unless I missed something Microsoft didn't announce a single new IP from their first party studios. They're still relying on co-productions with third parties and Microsoft's studis only make Halo, Fable, Forza, and Gears. I don't like co-op games and I don't buy DLC.

Microsoft did a great job making the Xbox One more consumer friendly which I really appreciate, but this conference did very little to get me to want to buy one. The only exclusive I want to play is still Quantum Break, I guess it'll be a few years before there are enough exclusives for me to consider getting an Xbox One.

Edit: Grade for the Xbox breifing- B-

A lot of what I was expecting at Playstation's conference showed up in Microsoft's conference. I hope Sony will show me awesome shit.

Yup, I'm very glad Sony won't be wasting time on AC, but I fear they'll waste time on DC again.

Third party wise, I'm hoping we see some Batman, and maybe Farcry 4. Other than that, I've no idea what they'll show. MS took most of the third party stuff.

Agreed. There were only a few moments where I was like "meh".
Most of the stuff they showed was super interesting to me.

Destiny
Maybe more battlefield hardline
They have that exclusive beta

Microsoft Conference Score: B/B+

Positives: Lots of Games, Sunset Overdrive, New Limbo Studio Game & that Ghibli looking thing
Negatives: Mostly 3rd Party multi-platform Stuff, CG Trailers, no megaton surprises

Good conference. Packed with games, it moved at a great pace, and a good variety of games. Liked how they split up the conference with 2014 and 2015 stuff. Some great announcements, and they got some reveals that I expected to be at the Sony conference (Assassin's Creed Unity).

As someone who never had an OG Xbox, I had to look up what Phantom Dusk was because the CG trailer wasn't clear, and that is not good marketing in my opinion. I hate CG trailers.

They did a good job making The Masterchief collection look like a huge announcement, even if it's mostly just a re-release of games already out there (Sony has released a bunch of those with little fanfare like God of War Saga or any of their PS2 to PS3 remakes).

Not too much negative to say, other than nothing super surprising was shown.

All in all, the conference showed enough to make you comfortable if you already own an XB1 and a reason to jump into next gen, but because it was mostly 3rd party stuff, I'm not sure they've convinced people to go with an XB1 over a PS4, but we'll know more on that front after the Sony conference later today.

I'm going to be a total dick here and not read any of the posts because I don't want spoilers. But can anyone please PM me with a link to a place I can stream an archived MS press conference? I just got back from work.

Thanks in advance, fellow GAFer!

Some of these comments like sunset overdrive being the same as crackdown and "cgi, cgi" make it hard to not believe there is a strong anti-MS bias out there.

Well Sunset Overdrive was obviously game of the presser, so those comments are stupid, but CGI CGI is pretty much true. Persecution complex is a hell of a drug.

No kinect, no TV. Only games, games, games. They lacked some wow factor, 1 or 2 surprises which could have have raised this to a really great pressconference.

All in all one of Microsofts better pressconferences they ever had, I enjoyed the pace, good mix of games and would give it 8/10.

I for one encourage Microsoft to keep doing their pressconferences this way, than how it has been previously.
