Believe it or not, I wrote this whole post, realized I was being too mean, erased it, and wrote it more moderately.

If they cared about good storytelling, they never would have entered. It's been a bad show since literally the pilot. Absolutely zero storytelling, bad characterization, awful pacing, dull writing. It's a show that floats effortlessly on style (style in this context means willingness to do a brutal kill-shot, because it's not an especially visually interesting show otherwise) because its audience is people who will pay an extra $20 to buy a plaid button-up with the sleeves pre-cut off. Have you seen Norman Reedus in interviews? I'm barely convinced he's a human being. What's the alien equivalent of rural Kentucky, and has anyone sent them a message to see if they're missing someone? Anyway, it's the kind of show people like because it's "badass" and if you ask what that means their brain short circuits because they only get "feels", not feelings. Absolutely zero going for it.
"Yeah, but you don't you know that the title is actually about the people and not the zombies? Deep, right?"

I would say I thought the pilot was somewhere between solid and quite good. It had some actual atmosphere. Unfortunately, the next episode brought in all the bad character work, and S1 made it clear they weren't going to avoid Robert Kirkman's terrible habit of having characters monologue about their feelings and thought processes instead of trusting the artist (or on the show its actors) to portray anything nonverbally. They were also going to be damned sure to have characters act stupidly to contrive conflicts of all kinds.

I think I saw a recent promo where AMC itself called The Walking Dead badass, not even quoting someone, and my eyes rolled so hard. Although, I probably roll my eyes at everything the uber-dramatic AMC announcer says.

I quit at the first episode of this new season back in October(?). I couldn't deal with it anymore.
I quit at the S2 premiere. When Dale was on watch on the highway and didn't notice a herd of zombies until they were right next to him despite having like a mile of visibility... that was my last straw.

I'm so glad I finally bailed on Walking Dead after the first half of this season, though I feel tremendously stupid for having watched it that long.

It really has nothing at all going for it.

Yeah I haven't watched the current season at all and I'm much happier for it.

I've been reading the Walking Dead comics since before it was even announced as a TV show and I still love reading those (I just ordered the latest graphic novel off of Amazon the other day).

In the same (?) season Dale literally dies because a zombie jumps out of nowhere. I mean yeah it was night and Carl "accidentally" let it go cause he couldn't kill it but this is the farm season so how he couldn't hear much less see a zombie in a field of ankle-high grass is welp.

Yeah but no one actually died.

Like who could they possibly have killed off / not killed off for people to throw their hands up in the air. The whole point of the show is killing people off.
Against my better judgment I entered this thread before having seen the finale. I don't know if I should thank you or not.

I'm a bit behind but the first season was mostly like that too. Sometimes they'd go off and do a thing but then they'd come back and still discuss whatever topic was at hand.

The first season felt like a mix between the dude's stand up material and a couple of jokes based on current events. Like they had an episode about the father having a heart attack and not wanting to change his diet.

This season it felt like every episode they did was just the family deciding to have a discussion about race, abuse, fear, etc. It's like they decided to just try the old sitcom route and do what they can with the episodes they had, considering the renewal was a bit of a miracle anyway.

Did you just pull a rural juror joke out of your ass ivy?

<3

It does sound exactly like a movie she would be in on 30 Rock.
Like, the 30 Rock writers are kicking themselves for not thinking of it.

More stuff from MIP:

I'll see how much of MIP I can bother to trawl through.

It's just their back catalogue, can't imagine it being anything else. Don't freak out. Yet.
Showtime was talking about bringing the series back with Hall at one point.
“It would have to involve Michael [C. Hall],” Nevins said at the TCAs, clarifying-but-not-exactly that any “spinoff” of Dexter would naturally have to be about Dexter. “I think if we were to do it, I would only do it if it with Michael.” Nevins added that the idea of a Dexter spinoff, which would finally give producers a chance to flesh out the show’s underserved character Dexter, is one they “continue to talk about” at the network. Although, he admits, “If we were to do it, we would have to have a very good reason to do it.”

I think it's inevitable this will happen, considering how the market is going these days. I just hope it will be at least few years from now and they will find showrunner who will be able to restore that series to it's old glory. A show like that didn't deserve the wreck Season 8 was.

Yeah. But I would guess that it is the CBS monter, and Dexter is on the Showtime wall in that monter. The back catalogue of shows available to buy usually is on display.

Relax. It's not coming back.
(I'm going to look stupid when it turns out they're actually bringing it back, aren't I?)

They will still have the issue of being tied to all the horrible conceived events that happened in the last three seasons. I'm all for a total reboot at this point.

You're probably right.

.

Only if they force themselves. With how the show ended you can simply have a standalone story about Dexter encountering something fun while hiding. No reason to drag up all the crap he left in Miami. Make it a brand new tale, just with known lead character.

So Machinma has been talking for a while. Unfortunately this is another area I'm not that vested in so I haven't followed it. This however was an interesting titbit:

Sounds simple in theory, but I think they will mess it up regardless :lol

So the summary of their esports thing is up. There might be some threadworthy stuff in there, but I'm really not familiar enough with this area to say so.
I personally found both of these interesting:
Building on that, Warman said that Matt Wolfe of Coca Cola—a longtime esports sponsor—called esorts [sic] a better investment in terms of effective reach compared to the Super Bowl.

And it isn’t just for guys. “The fastest growing audience of gaming on Youtube is females over age 25. The audience is a lot bigger than male; it’s females and families,” asserted Jones.

Game of Thrones: HBO, Bill Simmons Teaming Up for Weekly After Show

As part of HBO’s new partnership with Bill Simmons, the premium network is launching After the Thrones, a weekly after show in which Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan will offer a recap of the latest events, theories about what’s to come and more.

The episodes will become available Mondays on HBO NOW, HBO GO and HBO On Demand. They will also air on HBO on to-be-announced dates. Game of Thrones‘ sixth season kicks off Sunday, April 24 at 9/8c.

I guess now we know what HBO's big fall show is going to be this year!
