2015 PC Screenshot Thread of the Only Place Where Compression Isn't

It some how looks worse than BF4.

It's not hard to believe. Different artists. Not as capable with the engine as Dice. Possibly a more rushed timeline? All sorts of reasons.

I think the maps so far look kinda bland and a bit too spaced out. Seems like it's more fun to play than it is to... look at. But we'll see. I haven't played it yet.

This one's great. I really like the tone that fits well with the africa setting. The shot also transports some motion even without blur but just with the animation. I don't know if it was on purpose but the shadow on the wall works great and give a slightly more dramatic feel. The is only one thing what would make it better, from a photographic artistic point view, when Sheva were in the very center so you wouldn't get to distracted by that much details on the right like it is now OR she were in the golden ratio and some other distant motive in the background in the center of the image. Maybe a bit cropping would work well! But this is definitely one of the best recent RE5's shots so far.

I cropped the picture for the purpose of removing distracting information/details on the left and right to center Sheva as the main motive. I hope you're allright with that. If not just say a word and I will remove it.

Nothing else was altered. Everything else than the ratio and size is untouched, Credits go to the user Lime.

A great shot indeed.

I would crop it like this, so that your vision goes directly to the end of the hall, but keeps a mystery to it as you try to see around her.

That said... I find it can be interesting to try to use angles and composition to introduce "mystery" to a shot. Not to seem overly analytical, but here's one of my older ones:

2014-04-22_00452ahkunq.jpg

where I think I did well to introduce mystery and interest by using a lower angle and aiming it so it's *just* enough to capture a feeling of what's around the corner, of what might lurk upstairs. It feels foreboding and atmospheric ("You shouldn't be creeping around up here"). When I set it up I noticed my eye traveling wanting to see around, and it was a gut instinct to frame it that way. I think a lot of composition and framing goes directly to imagining how someone's eye might travel on an image.

A bit of a random post from me, but hope that makes sense.

Your shots are doing the game a lot of justice btw. I also really like this one:

haha of course it's okay for you to change things around, Filben - I don't think I've ever had so much text based on a shot :) It's pretty cumbersome to change the camera sometimes and make it work in different places in RE5 through Wilsono's trainer. Thanks for the kind words, both to you and Masochism Tango.

Daaaaayum.

First time I've seen Resident Evil 5 shots that made me think "that game needs a free camera." I'll consider it. I'll need something to mess with after Dying Light.

Speaking of Dying Light... I'll have a bunch of shots going up on PC Gamer on Thursday. And ya know what? Looks like they won't have chromatic aberration. Because it's gone and I can't even get it back. I wanted to do a screenshot comparison but.... I CAN'T GET IT BACK.

Here's a shot for now.

EDIT: Updated the game to the latest version. CA is back now. Hmmmmmm.

The reason I wanted to do a comparison is because I suspected that disabling CA also has an effect on the game's tonemapping\post processing. And I was right (green filter?)

Also, it's for people that have no idea how annoying CA is. You'd be amazed.

In any case, I fixed it again.

Your comparison link doesn't work, "Coulen't choose database." lol

So, are these the required mods + settings I have to use to get rid of DoF as in your recent screens?
Noise removal mod + CA removal mod + DoF disabled ingame

The screenshot comparison site seems to be down. For now you can just open these images up in their own tab and switch back and forth:

I just installed a fresh copy of the game. When I have time tonight, I'm going to go through steps 1 by 1 to see exactly what removes it.

I really rarely play a FPS more then once, but playing as Ray or Thomas is great fun.. game still looks good the gameplay is fun and the guns & shooting is satisfying.. it's definitely isn't Red Dead Redemption, but it's still a great western FPS

Holy shit that CAless shot looks sooo crisp and clean...
I tried to use the DL Manager, disabled filmgrain and CA, then disabled DoF ingame but doesn't seem to make CA go away.. Let us know "how to" when you've figured it out :)

Don't have access to Photoshop right now, so taking a pause to share some screenshots from the RE4 HD Mod (note: only environmental textures have been upgraded in these shots).

RE4 HD deserves to be on the new page. Glad to see you posting over here Cris.

Let me know if I've fucked anything up :V

Screen looks a bit dark, but aside from that it's fine. High quality JPEG's are preferred to PNG's, but not required.
