2015 PC Screenshot Thread of the Only Place Where Compression Isn't

How does it look that good? Are you using mods or is that vanilla? Mine certainly doesn't look that good.

So? Not everyone has played every game. Besides, there's nothing all that unique about Far Cry 3 whatsoever...

You're right, artistically it's not unique but it has a distinct look in it's setting and lush color palette. The only other game it could be mistaken for is Dead Island.

Here's some more.

Apart from a return to the jungle (which aesthetically I was tired of, especially in contrast to Africa), I think what bugs me about both Far Cry 3 and 4's environments is how unnatural and bland the topography and flora distribution is. I really love the engine and the way things are rendered, but the artistry is like a basic tree/grass brush swept over randomly hilly terrain and then calling it a day. I get that that would have been a nightmare combing over the entire map with finer attention to detail (especially Far Cry 4), but I think they could have done a better job as a whole.

which ultrawide monitor did you end up getting? I've been looking at them for a while...is it worth it?

The Dell U3415W. I initially got the flat LG, but sent it back due to some pretty excessive backlight bleeding. This curved Dell that I got after sending the LG back wasn't much better in that respect, but I ended up liking this better in every other way. I honestly didn't know what to think of the curve before I got the monitor, but I really don't find it any distracting, and I don't find it to distort anything I'm looking at.
For me, it's a big jump coming from a regular 23 inch 1920x1080 Eizo (which had zero backlight bleeding, which set my expectations) in every way. The bump in resolution feels ridiculous, and the ultrawide screen format feels pleasantly spacious. Colors are what I've come to expect from the IPS displays (pretty) and the size of the monitor, while intimidating at first, feels just right. I've only had the display in use for a few days alongside my new PC, but I'm loving it. I haven't got a whole lot of taxing games on my hard drive installed at the moment, but ArmA 3 runs great at the native resolution of 3440x1440 with the single GTX 980 that I have.

The change may feel less impactful if you're coming from QHD or 4K monitors, or if you've got a surround setup already. But if you're coming from 1080p and you don't require a high refresh rate monitor, I'd say it's definitely worth a look.

Just watched a few videos on youtube, this monitor looks pretty sweet. I wanted to ask, my current computer isn't very fast. I'm running a i5 4590 processor with a 750ti, if I want to run my current games on the native resolution, will I need to decrease the visual settings drastically or is it a little bump?

as impressive as the performance of the 750 Ti is for such a modest card, it's not gonna push those pixels at high settings with only 2GB of VRAM. your processor is plenty nice.

I imagine you'd need to pare back on a lot of the settings to get good performance on a lot of the newer titles with your current setup. I don't have similar hardware laying around, so I couldn't really say how X title would run. Looking at the card though, I think you'd be restricted to 50hz with the HDMI input. AFAIK only DisplayPort can drive the resolution at 60hz.

Finally, I thought I was the only one who thought that way. Despite the undoubted gameplay improvements in 3 and 4, I ended up enjoying Far Cry 2 the most for that very reason.

Since Far Cry 2 was broken up with impassable mountains and canyons and stuff, they were able to put a ton more detail into the environments, and it really shows - especially compared to its more-open sequels.

This second screenshot is actually lightly edited in photoshop as I was testing a method of increasing saturation and contrast without actually using just the contrast or saturation setting.

Wherein Finn goes super saiyan and flies at the monster.

..... amazing.

Now fix the baseball bat clipping through my genitals.

There ain't no fix for that unfortunately...

Can't find the FOV in this one. Unity is just a nightmare to reverse engineer. So I won't be taking too many more screenshots probably.

Still going to end up being one of my favorite games of 2015. I can tell already. I love it.

Hey Jim, are you still going to make a tutorial on how to go about making freecam/timestop/playersonly etc. with CE, or is that no longer in your plans?
Not trying to push you as I imagine it being time consuming as hell and there might not be one way of doing things but several, but I just remembered this topic from a year ago and wanted to know if you changed your mind about it or if we still can expect anything coming from that corner?
