This was one of the reasons why I didn't buy it sooner. I hate the always online requirement. Thankfully so far I only had one freeze in the shop (had to restart the game), no connection issues and no huge lag in MP events.
If one day they decide to patch this crap out, I'll surely buy it. Anyway, did the graphical patch landed on the PS4 as well? Did it improved the visuals a lot?

Patch landed on every platform, it's mostly changes to the lightning and added a weather system.

Go ahead and install it. Handling has been tweaked, it now includes weather, bikes, monster trucks, drag cars, drift races and arenas ala Trackmania.
Here's a comparison of a random spot between the old and the new graphics. First picture are the old graphics, second picture are the new graphics. It's does still have it's ugly spots.

Is it worth buying the vanilla game, or the Wild Run is better? Does it have all the vanilla game content included?

I have a retail Wild Run edition and the box contains the disc with the original game and the code needed to unlock the Wild Run content (it's downloaded along with the latest patch, just waiting to be unlocked).
Oh, do you have to unlock it inside the game, like doing stuff until it pops out? That's weird, but I like the idea. Sometimes unlocking a lot of stuff in your face feels overwhelming.

You get an invitation to test the new content (monster truck event, drag event, drift event) at the beginning of the "main game". I assume you can focus on the original content, on the Wild Run content or do both at the same time (the WR stuff is merged with the rest, not like a separate mode or anything like that).

Cool. Does it improve the map in any way, or is it just for monster trucks, bikes, drift events and other stuff like that? I'm asking this because they aren't very interesting to me. I'm more into cars and more traditional events.

I have no idea, because I've only completed the introductionary events so far. The rest is on the other side of the map and I haven't been there yet. Maybe ppl from this thread will know: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1141157
