2016 Console Screenshot Thread (READ RULES IN OP)

Just like with every other game that has a few copies sold early. You can either skips this thread till you've got your hands on a copy of the game or scroll past the Uncharted 4 posts.

I personally think that it's unfair to expect people to not post shots from a game till everyone has their hands on a copy.

Sure but they could at least wait until the official release date, you know...

Here's a mod quote from the locked screenshot thread:

If there's a need for a separate screenshot OT, feel free to make one once the game is out (after the regular OT is up).

If that wasn't allowed prior to the release, why should they be allowed here?

One is a thread for screenshot dedicated to a game that hasn't been released yet the other is a thread for screenshots for all games.

I hope that I don't need to explain why the other thread was locked. Hint: It's not because Uncharted 4 screenshots aren't allowed.

Alternatively, what about posting images of, say, Game of Thrones on a general thread before the show is aired for all?

Not really compareable. Entering the console thread, you are in danger to get spoiled all the games you haven't played/finished yet, just with looking at the screen.

Entering GoT general thread is different since it's usually with different/stricter rules and/or spoiler bars.

Screens or gifs get posted in the spoiler threads of movies/series all the time. Would rather compare the screenshot threads to the spoiler threads.

Seriously, people saying 'spoiled' over shots of locations already in the public realm, a couple of character shots & an interior shot of a desk?

Get a grip folks - or more usefully change the settings to only show links to images if you're *that* worried.

It's definitely comparable. The difference is, that the rules are less strict here for some reason. When you go to a spoiler thread, you know there's bound to be stuff you haven't experienced yourself yet, which isn't the case here when it comes to games that are available for all next week. The same applied to Dark Souls 3. Why not at least use spoiler tags for the screenshots?

I'm only going to post either non spoiler shots, or shots of scenes that have already been shown in official press footage. So there shouldn't really be any spoilers for those who have already kept up with media.

Are you posting images of generic pieces or spoiler moments like
John Snow being revived
. Same goes here. Generic pieces are totally fine with me, spoiler moments aren't. That's also what the thread rules state: Don't post spoilers within a certain time frame after launch. If you want a complete media blackout this isn't the type of thread you should visit imo.

What about linking pics from unreleased games, which can then simply be opened in a separate tab, instead of using image or spoiler tags (the latter of which don't work for mobile users, I believe)? A fair compromise imo.

Yeah, the spoiler tags don't unfortunately work on mobile.

@MorriganStark : Thx, I did nothing but to showcase at a proper manner, the fantastic art direction of From Software wizard artists. Kudos to them !

If people are worried about spoilers, I'll just stick to Madagascar grabs for now, seeing as how everyone and their mother has seen it now.

The complaining about spoilers is annoying

I come in here to see great shots of good looking games

With that choice comes a risk of seeing something you don't want to see

I had Until Dawn spoiled for me but that's my bad. If your that sensitive to seeing unreleased areas of a game, stay out

Really that simple

That's a great scenery shot.

And I come here to see screenshots of released games. It's annoying to stumble onto something else than I bargained for. Is it that hard to see it from a different point of view?

Or a compromise can be met so that everyone gets to enjoy this thread. Simply linking shots of unreleased games doesn't take a lot of effort.

It's no big deal though, I'll just continue scrolling down until I see the title of the game, then just covering the screen with my hand. :P

What about games that don't release worldwide on the same date? Plenty of games still release earlier in the US then they do in the EU for example. Should we ban those games from being posted as well till everyone has access to the game?

I'll repeat myself: If you don't want to be spoiled, in anyway or form, you shouldn't be in a screenshot thread and complain about it.

Personally I'm sick and tired of this spoiler-culture wherein everything is a spoiler.

Heh, I usually stop the browser from loading all the images, so I can read the headlines before seeing what the posts contain. Then I click the individual posts I want to see, like the DS3 screenshots on the past pages.

EDIT:

Not that many these days, luckily. The digital games and DLC are sometimes released a day before in NA due to the PSN update schedule, but the only retail game I can think of is Dying Light, which was released a month later in Europe. That's why I actually didn't buy the game, as I refused to pay full price after a month's delay.

You're mistaking it's solely about spoilers. I just don't have any desire to see any shared screenshots of the game before the release date, nor do I want to see the locations before getting to experience them myself. Experiencing them on second hand basis dilutes the experience.

I'm personally sick and tired of games getting out before the release date, and people sharing material of them before the games are out for everyone.

This makes me curious about the difference between screens snapped via the ps plus button vs. direct captures of the same area. Namely, whether when you snap via ps plus (btw, does that cause the game to pause for a second or so? or stutter? I have never used the thing), if it also accumulates more frames in that time for better AA in the final posted screen.

Nope.

UC4 definitely looks better in motion than sitting still. Is it using some type of reconstruction like QB?

Some blurry textures and LOD on a lot of stuff. (not including motion blur)

Tons of dithering in some shots too.

It does V-sync all share button captures but that's all I'm aware of outside of RGB range changes.
