Xbox One S: Should have launched like this. Looks sleek. Price is fair. New controller looks good. Not including a controller is just embarrassing though, a transparent way to dupe people by being able to claim you've reduced price but can't. Way worse than the 3DS power adapter fuckup. Glad to find out this ended up being false!
Gears of War 4: It looked a lot better visually than last year. You could actually see stuff, and the dust effects looked great. Gameplay-wise, though, same boring ass epic moment third person shooter as Uncharted or every previous Gears game. More like Gears Judgment 2 tbqh. Also the controller is tacky as hell. This is just so same old same old. It just feels like fanservice -- not anime tit garbage, I mean like what the word used to mean--just giving fans the same thing again and again because they want it.
Forza Horizon 3: Visually looks great, clearly a much more interesting and fun series than mainline Forza. The cover of Wicked Game was bad. I'd conceivably play this.
ReCore: Glad to see it. Character designs are cool and a great mix in the trailer, but still looks pretty rough. Still wondering if this might be $40 or something.
Final Fantasy XV: This was an absolutely awful demo. It looks bad, the voice acting is terrible, the guy kept getting owned by the boss, these huge boss fights never feel good. The feedback when he got hit was awful, the constant voice quips were like something out of some shit series like Tales of Shit or whatever. It's hard to imagine why they didn't pre-record this demo.
The Division Underground: Now that every game is an MMO, we have to suffer through these stupid post-release content patch videos? Boring.
BF1: I honestly didn't watch this because I just don't care.
Xbox Live: Clubs are a good idea, TrueAchievements has been doing this kind of thing for a while and building it into the system is a great idea. Looking for group is great. Tournaments good. These are all very good iterative additions
Minecraft: Transparent attempt to upsell Java users into the Windows 10 versions. Glad they're working on making it even better but I still feel like buying a company and then trying to totally scrap their core product in favour of your corporate mandate is not a great idea. Carmack does not have great script delivery hahaha. Like, this is basically a presentation that says "For everyone not playing the good version of Minecraft, now you can get some of the stuff from the good version of Minecraft."
Xbox Design Lab: I think this is nifty depending on the price. I would love to make an ugly controller for player 4 just to say "not it"
ID@XBox: Inside I'm very excited for. Deliver Us the Moon looked cool. Cuphead and Below still very anticipated. MercurySteam's game looked hideous. A lot of what they showed has been out on PC for a year, so it's difficult to be excited. We Happy Few I've been following since the KS and it looks great--love to see the plot they're cooking up for it.
Gwent: Honestly I don't have any interest in another card game at this point and this one didn't look super interesting.
Tekken 7: This looked bad and I think it's funny Tekken vs. SF ended up just being some SF characters in Tekken. The sunglasses on the game dev looked stupid.
Dead Rising 4: They're finally getting close to the crowd density they've wanted since the beginning but it kinda just looks like a retread of all the previous Dead Rising games. I did like the implied cell phone photo stuff. Wonder if it's coming to PC or just to Universal Windows Platform Store--interesting to know how Microsoft will handle this dilemma going forward. Capcom has already been burned with a lot of their GFWL stuff last gen.
Scalebound: Still don't like the character design. Multiplayer could be cool. Attack the giant crab's weak spot for massive damage. It's hard for me to understand why you'd ever go on foot if you had a dragon. The tryhard characterization reminds me negative of Devil May Cry. I thought the battle looked ok, although this being the SECOND game where you avoid a big thing's sweeping fist is a bit cliche.
Sea of Thieves: I bet the game will be cool. I didn't really pay any attention to the CG trailer but the gameplay looked fun as hell and super vibrant. Easy highlight of the show.
State of Decay 2: Looks like State of Decay which I had mixed feelings on. A lot worked, but the real limiting factor was that there was nothing to do--the quests were all MMOy and there was almost no story to speak of. The trailer for State of Decay 2 didn't really do much to change that fear.
Halo Wars 2: It's a decent CG trailer. Public beta could be cool.
Scorpio: We already knew this, but I think moving to iterative hardware will be a good thing. I like it because it'll mean that consoles won't be 5 years behind PCs at all times. I think console players will love the flexibility you get. Although if you have to upgrade your hardware every two years, then why not consider... you know...
I think this was a 6/10 conference. Not a ton of new content, but things mostly looked good and other than FF15 demoed well. This is mostly seeing the payoff of last year's announcements. Looking forward to seeing some of these titles at release. Would be more looking forward to them if "no one gets left behind" didn't mean more bungled UWP launches.
