Best Fight Against The System

God, how tone deaf. The corporate machine is giving an award for fighting against the machine. The audience will probably eat that shit up.

I'd like to watch but I'm gonna be busy watching Game of Thrones. I'll make sure to follow the thread and see the highlights later on though. Katy Perry is a really awkward choice for a host so I am curious how she does.

Outside of Kendrick, DRAM, & Thugga, I can't think of a single nominee I like in any of those categories. This year's sucked for music and that's really weird especially compared to how good 2016 was.

Nothing makes me feel Older than the VMAs every year. Have no clue who 70% of those people are, used to watch this religiously in the late 90s and early 00s. Still remember the one that was the same day the Dreamcast came out.

Meh. Mainstream music is garbage these days but there is so much better access to independent stuff it doesn't matter. Let pop be pop. At least Kendrick is getting his due. At this point MTV has so much less cultural power than when I was young, it's hard to even be mad at what a shitshow that is.

"Best Fight Against the System" award is one of the rare times where something actually made me cringe.

Meh. Mainstream music is garbage these days.

This is "old man yells at cloud" stuff. There's plenty of great "mainstream music." Kendrick and Lorde are both mainstream and nominated for the biggest awards, for example.

No, it's pretty accurate. I already gave props to Kendrick; we'll have to agree to disagree on Lorde. And frankly those are the best two on offer on a very bad list of music. Well, no, ATCQ and Imagine Dragons are also rad.

But DJ Khaled is nominated in five categories, for fuck's sake. Ed Sheeran in four. The fucking Chainsmokers in two. If you actually think this constitutes the best music that has come out recently, then you're probably the one who is out of touch. Sorry.

I think she has hosted the MTV EMA before.

I mean, I'm not saying you have to like Lorde. But she had one of the most acclaimed albums of the year.

There is always bad mainstream music. And it's the freaking VMAs. Their nominees are always filled with this stuff so it's not a sign of anything.

Like I said, saying mainstream music is garbage just isn't true. And if you're going to say "Lorde doesn't count because I don't like her," then the argument is just silly.

Wait, tonight? Opposite the GoT finale? Well ok good luck with that.

I wonder which was scheduled first? Because that is some god awful scheduling if MTV chose this date knowing the Game of Thrones finale would be on.

Imagine Dragons are rad but you hate the Chainsmokers. Okay bro...
