Katy Perry Says She’s Been ‘Battered and Bruised’ by Backlash: The Internet Is a ‘Dumping Ground for Unhinged and Unhealed’

She's getting backlash because she spent 11 minutes in the upper stratosphere on a pretty blatant Amazon sponsored publicity stunt and people are calling her out on it

Feel a little bad for Katy, I think what happened was there was a massive buildup of resentment towards all the girlbossing force fed to everyone in all aspects of media, so this was the dam bursting wide open and being funneled entirely to her and the others. Ya you can point to them having no self-awareness but it got as much negativity as someone doing something that was actually despicable or evil.

We even have an A/B test case. Bill Shatner was on the same flight two years ago and it was universally positive.

The girlbossing stuff definitely has helped lead to the vitriol.

Then there's the general preachiness of the whole thing. The launch/flight with Shatner had some of that, but publicly they treated as the jorlyride it is.

Plus, Shatner was endearing considering his background, and there weren't a load of selfies.

I wonder of part of it is the nature of the different sexes, and that people don't like that being pointed out when some of it is negative about women.

She should have taken this trip for what it actualy was, a trip.
They should have gone there, enjoyed the ride and come back without any buzz like many others have done before them.
But no, they had to turn this into some feminist and pr bullshit.

Fame has a price. People give up a lot to attain it.
You make it sound like she works her ass off and succeeded because of that. Which can't be further from the truer and equally doesn't apply to a vast majority of actors, singers and celebrities.

I hesitate to comment, but fuck Katie Perry's ludicrously detached attitude. People aren't "unhealed" they just see you doing something disgusting and call you out for it. This could be a massive learning moment.

Instead, this is her basically attempting to gaslight the entire world. Imagine feeling so assured that you think you're above criticism for doing something so extravagantly wasteful, making a spectacle of it so you can do a bit of promo for your "comeback" tour and then assuming everyone else has a problem when they don't line up to applaud you.

I bear her no ill will, but I hope she gets some perspective at some point.

Won't happen, celebrities like that spend their lives surrounded with hangers-on and yes men. It's why that COVID heal the world video came into existence.

Going to space would be cool, celebrities want cocktail parties in space, being invited over to cocktails in space is what they want.

I don't see much of a reason to be upset with her over going to space and having a nice time.
I was more upset she came back to be honest.

Edit: Think we have the bones of a chorus. We might be onto a winner here.

"Unhealed"

Is this more weak ass snowflake talk?
It's rich lefty speech. Normal people don't talk like this. Same kinda people say shit like "I need to be SEEN." and "I need to be allowed to EXIST."

Uh, yeah we see you. And if you didn't exist you couldn't say you need to be allowed to exist. Another personal favorite is "my truth." LMFAO

Fame is costly, and it's addictive.

People pursue fame in search for connection and end up getting the opposite. It's a terrible thing in my view.

Best thing about it is the cash. Never do away with the money if you can.

Having all the money in the world to go out and buy anything you want but not be able to experience those things with friends and family must be a fucking nightmare.

On top of the media scrutinizing your every move at every opportunity they get.

Yeah exactly. It's very hard to manage friendships because 99 percent of people who deal with you are fake as hell. And it's hard to get a moments peace.

This.

The issue wasn't what they did, the issue was the attempt to present it as some kind of milestone for women rather than an expensive joyride.

Anyhoo, Gayle King came off looking far worse than Perry, IMO. "Have you been to space? Go to space". Yeah, I'm sure a lot of people would love to, but they're not fabulously wealthy, famous, useful for PR, or in a relationship with the boss of a company doing launches.

It just occurred to me that we are all here giving our opinions, but have any of us even BEAN to space? Maybe we should leave it to the experts.
