Not really a PSP or movies-on-handheld fan myself, but I noticed there are quite a few people around here who do...

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to Release Titles On UMD For the Sony Playstation Portable; Studio Embraces New Technology For Its Portability, Convenience And Secure Copy Protection

CENTURY CITY, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- May 10, 2005 Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release film titles on the Universal Media Disc (UMD) format for the Sony PlayStation(R) Portable (PSP(TM)) this summer. The studio supports a technologically advanced format such as UMD as it provides consumers with new entertainment options that are portable and convenient, while providing the studio's intellectual property with a virtually impenetrable copyright protection.
"The technologically advanced PSP enables our consumers to experience Fox movies with the same high quality picture and audio to which they have grown accustomed, while securing our film assets with a unique hardware-based copy protection" said Mike Dunn, President Worldwide, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. "We are extremely supportive of this new technology and are currently assembling a robust library of titles for release that are perfectly suited for the PSP and its core demo."

Targeting the platform's core demo of men ages 18-34, the first five titles to be released by the studio include 'I, Robot,' 'Napoleon Dynamite,' 'Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,' 'Super Troopers,' and 'Predator.' The initial wave of titles will hit retail shelves in July, with a burgeoning catalog of releases immediately scheduled for subsequent waves.

Was 20th Century Fox the group in a recent article that was shown as one of the larger holdouts... or was that another large group(Paramount?) that was taking a wait and see stance...

Now, how long before someone complains about this non-gaming topic in the Gaming forum :lol

Who in this forum wouldn't buy Star Wars on UMD.

I wouldn't.

I wonder how long it will be before the studios realize that the average PSP owner isn't 12 years old.

Its still a lot better than the first days of the DVD. Some of the shittiest movies were brought over with some of the worst quality.
