Looks like Jimmy Smits or Alan Alda may not be the only new president on NBC next season.

An anonymous source tells the New York Post:

“I can tell you that NBC has not been shy about expressing their interest in ‘24’.”

The show’s licensing agreement with Fox runs out at the end of this season. NBC announces its fall schedule on May 16. Fox announces its on May 19.

You need an entire salt mine with this one. Fox would be stupid to not renew.

I would laugh out loud if NBC got 24, where it would undoubtedly become the anchor of their Thursday night lineup. I just don't see it happening though, unless NBC blew Fox out of the water with a bid.

NBC's reported interest comes despite the fact that the network and studio are both units of News Corp. (as is the Post), which would seem to make the Peacock's odds of wresting the series from FOX pretty slim. Even disregarding the corporate connection, it seems unlikely that FOX would let one of its better-performing series go.

That about sums it up...the studio is owned by Fox themselves, they won't be letting it go any time soon.
