Netflix announced on Wednesday that it had “renewed” “3 Body Problem,” but the streamer notably didn’t refer to the extension as a “Season 2.” Instead, it appears to be more of a case of Netflix ordering “additional episodes” instead of a new, full Season 2 order.

Per a press release, the exact number of seasons and episodes will be announced at a later date.

Netflix has picked up additional episodes of 3 Body Problem to conclude the story which will be created, executive produced and written by the returning trio of David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo.

Additionally, Benioff and Weiss will continue their exclusive partnership with the streamer as their multi-year deal to write, produce and direct new series and films has been extended. Beyond Season 2 of this series, they are also working on the recently announced series Death by Lightning. Woo, who has an overall deal with Netflix, will return as co-creator, executive producer and writer on 3 Body Problem.

I wonder if the murder shenanigans on the chinese side have made netflix cautious.

Can they wrap this thing up in a couple of films or a single season? Not really, IMHO, at least not still pay off alllllllllllllll the time spent with cancer boy. I suppose you could expedite the wallfacers and the "solution" as an ending but it's gonna feel off and require all the really cool shit to be scrapped.

Urrgghh...terrible show.

As usual with Netflix fodder, all you need to watch is the first & last episodes. Everything inbetween, is wasted bandwidth.

The boat slicey bit was class tbf, was hoping it'd get a lot better in S2, tried to the read the original book but got bored and put off by the style of writing

A surprise to no one.

Hopefully they either give more episodes or rein in the story for season 2.

The last 3 eps of season 1 kind of shat the bed. Was all over the place and full of inconsistencies. Where the first 5 were decent

I noped out after 3/4th of the first episode and watched a full summary on youtube. This saved me about ten hours of watching something I would have hated.
Boat slicey scene looked cool though - not ten hours cool, but cool.

I watched the first season and I was pretty frustrated by how much they melted the three books together. They will need to cover a SHOCKING amount of content in the final season if they're going to do any justice to the books!

As long as I get to see the visuals of the third book I don't mind if the writing of the show is subpar.

Think I watched the first 4 episodes and dipped. Never seen a Science Fiction story so gassed but it was actually mid since Prometheus.

I thought it was great. Fuzzy science and spectacle for its own sake aside, it still has more meat to it than a lot of modern sci-fi shows. I'll be watching season 2.

Great news

I just finished the second book and I'll be reading the third and final book sometime soon. After I'm done with the books, I'll be watching the show

The books are fantastic

Some scenes are still stuck in my head

I figure the show will take liberties with story elements... Possibly switching some things around. I never read the books but I thoroughly enjoyed the show!

Doubt I'll return for season 2. Having read the first book (halfway through Dark Forest), I wasn't impressed with the adaptation. The way the books are structured I can't imagine the second novel will be adapted any better.

Can you elaborate on the murder thing?

Yeah. Surprisingly, without any big names headlining it! When I finished the last episode, I was HOPING for another season.

That's good to hear

When it comes to the books I love how crazy the Hard Sci Fi Concepts get

Also Book 1 and Book 2 have certain Action Sequences that stick in my head

My only issue is that the characters are kind of cookie cutter and are just three to tell you about the Hard Science Fiction theories etc

I still haven't wrapped my head around the weird "love" story in the second book. I'm not to keen to see that part in season 2, but there's plenty of other material that will be thrilling. And the third season with the third book will be insaaaaane!

I loved that weird love story in the 2nd book

Spoilers from the second book:

It was a while since I read it, but what I remember is the main character of this book having a dream girl with specific physical attributes that suddenly shows up in real life and moves in with him. She's some kind of ideal portrait of a woman. But then later we learn that she was just an actress and the main character is okay with it.

I honestly couldn't see the point of that storyline and it seemed to be there only because the author wanted to describe his fantasies.

I'd love to hear what made you like that plot so much as I think I'm missing something. Or maybe I'm just not as romantic as I thought. :lollipop_smiling_face_eyes:

I used to be a romantic so it's not that

I really love the way the author described Liu WAIFU and his made up interactions. Loved the prose especially. They did a great job translating that part of the novel especially

It really did trigger the Anti WAIFU Brigade and I love seeing those types get so easily triggered. But hey I've always been super Petty 👀

As for cons I see the issue that some people have with that part. The book is Hard Sci Fi and it should stick to Hard Sci fi. That's a valid point but than I found the characters mostly forgettable and they are just vehicles for the author to get his Hard Sci Fi Concepts across.

But when it comes to character moments I found that part memorable

I haven't read Book 3 yet. I'm hoping to start and finish it this month
