3 new Wreckless 2 videos

WOW! How is it possible that 3 and a half years later the game using the same (tweaked) engine looks worse than its predecessor? Nevertheless, I liked the effect when you enter a bright area from a dark one and for a few instants you don't see anything and I liked the fact that the difficulty level seems - at least in this first level - to be less tightened than in W1.

What I'm not yet sure of is whether there is a free roaming mode or not and what the Xbox Live support is all about.

I'd love to have a GTA looking like this. Can't wait for the next gen.

Hah, and Olimario said this looked better than PGR3. :lol

There is a free roaming mode, you can either go into the next mission, or go do whatever you want in the city.
Unfortunately Xbox Live is only a way to upload your scores. Sucks.
Playasia still did not send the game, first time they are really late for a new game. I'm wondering if I should cancel my order or not. Without a true Xbox Live mode I'm quite sure I'll never play the game more than a few hours.

This game was already made by Dice... it's called Midtown Madness 1, 2 and 3. :P

I loved MM3! Actually it is the game I spent the most time with online. Even more than with PSO! I'd love to see Dice make a MM4 for X360, but that's not going to happen thanks to EA. :(

thanks for the info, Blim! :)

I pretty much never play racing games so I'm having a good time with this thing. It's pretty, to be sure, but I'm not really blown away by it or anything. I never played the first one, but I wouldn't doubt that it's better looking. With the really nice lighting in this thing Hong Kong is a much better setting.

Those vids are not really impressive at all... lol at those posts in the other thread saying this game looked better than PGR3.

They're terribly low quality captures. Don't judge the game by these videos.

ive never played a wreckless game before but I gotta say that vid of mission 1 looked boring as hell. was there a purpose to the player thrashing into walls and cars other than the ones marked enemy?

The game is butt ugly when playing it... it'll also bore you to death with its shit gameplay. :lol

Terrible game...

yeah after seeing those vids i've given up the thought of paying $150+ to play this game. I'll just hope for a publisher here to pick it up. That sreech sound that the police car was making was annoying as hell.

Ok, this is bullshit.
The game is far from ugly; it's just "not better than the first wreckless" which however is still one of the most impressive looking games this gen. Well, it's actually slightly worse, since the engine is the same, but wreckless 2 uses resorces for features which are not instanctly noticeable.
Some areas of the city look great, some other are very dull, and buildings' textures at night do suck. Still, W2 easily has the best graphics in a "free roaming" game.

Too bad this is a very low budget game, with low sales expectation; bunkasha hasn't devoted resources to reseraching the hardware and rewriting the engine, they could have achieved much better results, i guess.

Backgrounds DO resemble PGR3 A LOT, as far as lightning and colours go, at least.
Lightning and reflections on cars are more realistic, that's true, Oli.

Agreed. It's also important to remember the size of the team we are talking about. Wreckless 1 was developed by a team of 11 people. Wreckless 2 was developed by a team of 6. To say that Bunkasha's resources were strained is quite an understatement.

Okay. I got my copy of this yesterday, and I have to be honest: Those of you who think this game looks worse than the first wreckless, stop sniffing glue. And don't think me biased because I'm out $90. ;-)

Running in HD, this completely kills the first game. It's sharper, cleaner, the colors are FAR more vibrant, and the lighting is much more realistic. None of these shots do this game any justice. Another thing--the draw distance is better, and you get a much better feeling for the scale/scope of the city because you can see more of it. The water effect is not there anymore, but it's been replaced by much better reflection effects on the cars (completely realtime) and a far more consistant framerate. The free roam mode is a nice addition,

If you think this game is anything approaching 'ugly', you're a total moron. Wax Free, again, you speak loudly about things you know literally nothing about. Still hatin' away in those Xbox Threads? keep up the good fight. :lol

And if anyone's curious, this game won't run on my American Xbox. But, it's a Thompson, so I don't know if that might have something to do with it.

All you say is true, it really depends on tastes, you prefer the sharper, cleaner look etc. then you're going to like Wreckless 2 more; personally i prefer Wreckless 1 richer environments and higher poly count, not to mention they absolutely killed those amazing water effects and a lot of nice things like glasses shattering etc.

My point is the engine's performance have not improved, which is not really surprising considering the team has actually been halved (didn't know that); what W2 gains in resolution it looses in poly count, what it gained in size it lost in texture resolution, lightning is better but they had to sacrifice a few special effects...technically speaking they are even, i think W2 puts resources on more subtle things you won't instantly notice.

Does it only project in 720p? If so, I'd be screwed regardless, my TV shows 480p and 1080i

MS has the rights, so a Midtown Madness 4 could be made by another studio. :) Midtown Madness 3 was great, but could have been a lot more, thanks to some engine overwrites and development troubles I believe. Honostly, the studio that made Midtown Madness (Angels Studios, later bought by Rockstar) made Midnight Club 3 sort of a spiritual successor, which is also pretty fun.

I just noticed that this is based in Chicago. I'm less than 30 minutes away. I fear I'm going to buckle. I get almost all games based in Chicago. That was my attractions to the first Midtown Madness
