Sorry, but there is nothing absurd about the 2nd amendment itself. The problem is the NRA and the like who want complete freedom to own any type of firearm without any type of background check or safety and knowledge requirement. The NRA and it's lobbying power is exactly why nothing happened after Sandy Hook even though polls showed the vast majority of Americans would support at the least some gun control measures, e.g. closing the gun show loophole.
