it's a refurb.. but it's a factory refurb so all the warranties would apply.

BEsides it's right from the manufacturer, how can you go wrong? Put it on your card and if they dont come through with it get your money back.

I'm actually considering getting one for my new house.

Tempting DarienA, isn't it?

I've seen the TV in stores and have drooled over it, until I saw the price tag.

But NOW, it's affordable. Im all over this, DVD heaven here I come.

How good/reliable are Phillips products?

The last thing I owned by them was the CD-I....(I didn't buy it).

This looks like an awesome deal, and it is, but does anyone know if there should be any expected significant drops in current HDTV prices? I really want to buy this one, but I'd much rather wait for a slightly larger one if it were in my price range.

But...for this price...hell, it seems too good to be true.

Leguna,
I'm surprised you don't know what refurbished means...it means that it was defective, returned and then fixed at the factory.

So I can buy this and be virtually broke for the next few months or skip it and have financial security.

Can anyone tell me why this would be good/bad for gaming? If its a good base for a gaming rig I'll buy it right now...

I can think of one bad thing: widescreen. Not many games support it. Yeah. That's a good excuse. Or not. :(

I should not have clicked on this thread. I told myself not to, but I did anyway. Now I'm thinking of reasons to justify this purchase :/ So...weak...

I just mean, I dunno shit about hi tech video or audio. I'm still with my normal AV cables on a normal TV. I'll get out my credit card right now if someone with some knowledge can tell me one way or the other.

HD will be the standard next gen, and it looks much better. Go to any local big-box store like Best Buy and look at their "big" tvs - the pictures look good because it's an HD signal, not because the TVs are nice (although it helps). If that doesn't convince you, then don't bother.

No, I understand the HD/widescreen difference, vs. my TV now. I was referring to this specific TV. If its a good HD/widewcreen model, and would be good for gaming, I'll buy it. I just worry I'll buy then then find out its missing random feature XYZ that makes it asstastic, you know? I just want to be educated.

Wasn't this on Attack of the Show last night? As much flack as the G4 people get, I think in this case credit is due.

Please ignore if you found this deal elsewhere first.

I bought ten, thanks for the link guys =P jk.

I wish they had the other 30 inch widescreen up there. I would buy that one but not this one. But thats me being a picky bitch. I'll keep my eye on it though for the mean time and hope that it comes back.

So what would be the cheapest NEW 30 inch widescreen HDTV? $1000?

30PW8402/37B its only 510 bucks refurb, you can get a new one at costco for 559

Chrono: you'll be waiting like me buddy, FOR YEARS. I've been waiting three years for carbon nano tubes WHERE THE FUCK are they? NO WHERE i tell you. Its all a myth. they cant manufacture them in great numbers. So give up on the dream my man. And give into the darkside.

TO ALL:
What happens to a TV for it to be factory refurb? How "used" is it?

That means usually that something exploded on it and it went to some crappy repair shop and the customer didn't wanna pay for the insane repair price. Just go in with the knowledge that the refurb has most likely been handled by a know nothing repair guy who most likely did a half assed repair job. That applies to what some places call "factory refurbished" also.

The TV can't handle 720p if I'm reading this right. That kinda sucks cuz any Xbox game that used 720p wouldn't be able to take advantage of it.

there's a total of something like 5. Yeah, it sucks, but it's not really a big deal, especially if its true that all next-gen consoles will have built-in scalers to play games at any resolution your tv supports.

Unfortunately Phillips products are hit or miss when they are no. Zero percent chance of risking one that is old.

I saw this on fatwallet a couple days ago. It's pretty shitty as far as HDTVs go, and apparently the Invar Mask sucks shit on it, but even if it wasn't an HDTV, $360 for a flat 30 inch tube is a pretty decent deal.

No DVI, HDMI or anything. Just component. But it's $360!

Also, fyi, you won't know if its out of stock until you try to complete your order. So don't think being able to add it to your cart means they got some.

It tells you its out of stock before putting in credit card info. Its not like its "try to buy one to find out if its in stock, and if it is, you've been charged"

Its one step before that.

GKB,

I know. But Sainsbury's currently have a 26" LCD TV for £499. Thats the same as a 28" CRT, with VGA, DVI, component. 1280x768 resolution. I very nearly bought it on the spot, but resisted.

Thats as close to a bargain as you get in this country.
