3D Mini-Golf Web Game

It's a slow Sunday afternoon right now, so if you got nothing to do why not check out my latest web game.

Here are some screen shots:

You can play it here:

Don't worry, the game is totally free. I've gotten very good player feedback so far, but I'm very interested in what the jaded GAF crowd has to say about it. :)

Tell me if you like the game or if you think it sucks or if you have any comments and suggestions. Be prepared though, there is a somewhat long load.

Check out the online mode as well. Have fun!

Bump!

I'm in the middle of trying to resolve some 360 issues, but I've bookmarked your game in the meantime. I did play 30 seconds of it and it looks fantastic!

that was pretty cool. One minor quirk that kinda buggged me is how you have to walk to each ball everytime you hit it, but thats not a huge deal.

I only have a few niggling suggestions after brief play.

First off, it's great, and fun, and you've done a great job with Shockwave 3D. I didn't even know a game this complex was possible. So, my notes:

1. Please, please don't use Comic Sans. Ever. Not to be a font bigot, but it's the worst font ever made, and has the power to make amazing things look instantly cheap. I'm not alone in this feeling, I swear! :) Just changing that font will make the game look a billion times better from a design perspective.

2. Additionally, the graphic design on the power/accuracy meter is a little bad. The over use of the Photoshop Bevel/Emboss filter, particularly on the accuracy meter, makes it a little rough to gague accuracy, plus screams "engineer design". :) Can it be cleaned up a bit?

3. I think a bit more of a celebration when you get a Hole in One would be very welcome. Maybe some full-screen confetti for a few seconds? Maybe confetti can burst out of the hole and fall on the course for a moment? Some kind of super musical fanfare? I was very excited to get a Hole In One and was a little sad to see that the game didn't really seem to give a crap. Not that I blame it. :)

4. The character animations are a little stiff, and sometimes too slow, particularly the "picking the ball up" animation.

5. The music seemed a little canned, but I'm guessing that's out of your hands.

Anyway, I hope this is marginally helpful, and well done -- it was fun, and cool of you to share it with us!

TCO, is this development a one man operation? Do you work and do this at the same time? Is major game dev your ambition? Heh, sorry for the interrogation!

Some thoughts:

- Hole 4 - Sorry, but that crazy little dip thing is nearly unmanageable. It seems like it doesn't affect the ball as I would expect it to and just make it suddenly go really fast. I was expecting some major curve instead. I got used to it as it popped up later.

- Are the diagonal lines supposed to mean that the turf is faster there? It seems like it is faster.

I had a lot of fun with my 1/2 hour round. The courses were generally balanced well, and it was an enjoyable experience.

Wow, it's great to see it's well received here too! :)

On to some of your comments:

How much do you charge to create custom games I need some made

Hehe, sorry I'm an Independent developer. I'm not a hired gun (well at least not for cheap :D ). I make games that interest me and hopefully keep me in business as well.

@cabel - Thanks for all the feedback! You raised some good points. You're probably right, I should make a Hole in One a little more spectacular compared to a Birdie or Par.

Yeah the in-game music is canned. I tried to keep costs (and the file size) down, so I paid for some inexpensive royalty-free music. I guess it shows.... :( I also wanted to add more ambient sounds to the course, but again I wanted to keep the file size down since the loading times are already pretty long.

Yep, I'm mostly a one-man operation. Though I do contract out with other artist and musicians sometimes, especially for big projects. You can check out the rest of the website ( http://www.outsidetheboxsoftware.com ) for more information on me. I actually left major game development...

@Memles - I'm not sure what diagonal lines you're referring to. Each hole kind of has a grid for the ground texture. This is so you can better judge the slopes and such. Obviously if you're going down a slope the ball will go faster.

Again thanks everyone for the comments! All I ask is if you enjoyed it, tell a friend. :) The hardest part for Independent devs is just getting the word out. Also suggestions and such are more than welcome. I'll probably do a major update early next month and I'll try to get some of your suggested improvements in there.

Looks cool; I'll try it out now.

EDIT:

I got a 2 on hole 1, and it said it was a birdie. According to the scorecard, though, it's a par.

That shouldn't be the case. Every hole on the course is par 3. So your Birdie on hole 1 was correct.

Question: is that platformer on the same site any fun?

There's a demo, why don't you see for yourself. :)

The platformer is fun (albeit probably a little simplistic for most hardcore gamers). Though it was my first large scale 3D project in Shockwave, so it's a bit rough around the edges. I've since gotten a much better handle on Shockwve 3D (by evidence of this golf game). So I actually plan to overall the platformer in the very near future.

Still, the platformer is pretty fun and if you guys remember Saturnman, he did the entire intro (which is voice acted btw) and all the character animations.
