GameSpot is proud to announce the world premiere of the 3DMark06 Basic Edition, the much anticipated release from Futuremark Corporation and the worldwide standard in advanced 3D game performance benchmarking!

Whether you're building a system from scratch or upgrading PC components, 3DMark06 will give you an accurate tool to assess the performance value of over-clocking, system tweaks and upgraded hardware. Measuring PC performance using a suite of advanced tests, 3DMark06 reliably compares the latest high-end gaming hardware, helping you to build the fastest gaming system that money can buy! Futuremark's exclusive Online ResultBrowser web service tracks 3DMark06 scores and can compare every user's PC to the fastest systems in the world (scores from 3DMark06 are not comparable with any previous version of 3DMark.)

3DMark06 is available as a free Basic Edition, a $19.95 Advanced Edition for home/private use offering expanded features, a playable mini-game and enhanced Online ResultBrowser features, and the $500.00 Professional Edition for commercial use.

I wish I had a PC that could run this, haha.

10% of GAF cares about PC games.

10% out of those 10% cares about 3DMark.

1% out of those 10% will have a PC that will run it

In 5 FPS.

That's an incredible 0.01% of GAF can run 3DMark at 5 fps! :lol

WTF this is just 3DMark05 upgraded:

Only ONE new test?

Worst. 3DMark. Ever.
WTH do you get your info from?!??

DirectX® 9 3D game performance benchmark

Includes separate graphics card and CPU benchmarks

Produces workloads that simulate next generation 3D gaming requirements

Advanced 3D game engine supports HDR Rendering with SM3.0 Shaders, in addition to SM2.0 Shaders

Includes two HDR/SM3.0 game tests and two SM2.0 game tests

CPU performance testing via AI and physics workloads for both single core systems and multi-threaded, multi-core and multiple processor environments

3D graphics feature tests include Fill Rate, Pixel Shader, Vertex Shader, SM3.0 tests, and Batch Size tests

EDIT: That pic does look a lot like the invasion 05 test though... :/

Longtime 3DMark users will recognize many of the tests from previous versions, but Futuremark has increased the complexity of each test to take advantage of the latest graphics hardware. 3DMark06 has an upgraded Canyon Flight test originally introduced in 3DMark05 and a brand new Deep Freeze test that make extensive use of Shader Model 3.0 and HDR rendering, two highly touted features available in the latest GPUs from Nvidia and ATI.

This just fucking sucks.

Only one new test - Deep Freeze the rest is just upgraded stuff from previous Marks.

SUCKAGE

Yeah, none of what you posted say anything about what was in 3DM05 though.

He said "one new".
The 2 very first pics already show 2 new tests...

Meh, that does suck

The first pic is the continuation of Canyon Flight I suppose. Remember how at the end of the Serpent Escape the balloon flights into a City? I think that's the city on that screen.

Yeah, I figured that as well...

It sucks though, that most of us won't even see the actual real new test, as it's SM3.0. - There's no real need for me to download and run it even...

Good old 3DMark :) Bringing monster PCs to their knees!

Its just a small update uunlike other 3dmarks. All the demos are already in 3dmark05 apart from one.

Very high res shots coming.

Hmm, I'm disappointed to see so many of the same tests return, with little upgrades. I hope the demo with the city is there.

^^ those are some pretty low-res crappy shots.

The deafult res is 1280x1024.

I know i was going to post 2046 x 1500 shots but they are abit of a nightmare to convert and host :P

Minimum system requirements

* Intel® or AMD® compatible processor 2.5GHz or higher
* DirectX® 9 compatible graphics adapter with Pixel Shader 2.0 support or later, and graphics memory of 256 MB minimum*
* 1GB of system RAM or more - 1.5GB of free hard disk space
* Windows® XP operating system with latest Service Packs and updates installed
* DirectX® 9.0c December 2005 or later
* Microsoft Excel® 2000, 2003 or XP for some 3DMark functionality
* Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 for some 3DMark functionality

* To run the HDR/SM3.0 graphics tests, a DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapter with support for Pixel Shader 3.0, 16 bit floating point textures and 16 bit floating point blending is required.

256MB of VRAM

My score:

myscore2fo.jpg

edit - I've 512MB of RAM, so not sure about those sys requirements..

Is it normal for the CPU tests to just completely CHUG? I was getting 0fps most of the time :lol I'm on a AMD dual-core 3800+

edit 2- seems my monitor may be helping me :lol my highest res is 1152x864, so my score would be inflated a little I guess.

Don'T want to sound mean, but their engines are poorly optimized.

Even powerful cards can't run this shit smoothly.

It's true. They're not really designed like game engines are, I doubt they take shortcuts or avoid processing where possible. They're really just designed to tax your system as much as possible.

We sadly cant see the whole of the canyon demo with the city at the end.

My pc never hit 10 fps at any point. The CPU tests were stupid. My pc didnt hit 1fps at any point...

Yeah, I really have to question what was going on with those, and how relevant they are. My PC rarely creeped over "0fps" in those tests, and that was with a dual-core. Perhaps they were a little too ambitious (or more probably, inefficient) with these.

CPU tests are meant to be locked to 1 or 2 FPS as far as I know. They did that intentionally to pull the graphics card out of equation completely.

Damn, those pictures look great.

They're actually HLSL shaders meaning that it's up to NVIDIA or ATI drivers to compile and make the appropriate optimizations to avoid processing whenever possible. 3DMark 03 was worse in this regard where it definitely wasn't like a game engine. 3DMark 05 and 06 are closer to game engines, only they add way more polygons, lights, and AI calculations than would be used in a normal game.

True, but I'd wonder about high level optimisations in the engine itself. A game developer will put in work-arounds and tricks to try to AVOID taxing the system, but I don't know if a benchmark suite will be so particular.
