3DS Streetpass Experiences

3DS tents? Explain please.

Nintendo have a couple of portable promotional tents on the promenade. One has about 8 units showing off the games, the other is focused on Mii creation. In additional there are around 20 employees each with a demo unit.

Another hit today from a different person on my campus. Gonna take it into work (Gamestop) from now on, I figure I'll get occasional street pass hits with it there.

Street Pass is some janky shit.

Nintendo am fail.

I sat next to 4 people and only received 2 Street passes. We sat there for 5 mins. 1 of them I had already gotten earlier that day. The other was just setting up his 3DS. The other 2 had traded with each other via Street Pass yet they weren't picking up any other person.

Janky.

Doesn't their 3DS also have to be in sleep mode? And not in a game? If they did either that could be why. The first time I did it it took awhile to recognize someone.

Still nothing for me.

Im not too worried though. I am in university so its a bit disappointing that I havent bumped anyone yet. It just has to be in sleep mode right? I have a feeling a lot of people just turn the system off when they carry it around.

What I do like is that this is motivating me to actually bring my handheld out with me on day to day activities. I normally dont do that ever.

Nope doesn't matter.

I got someone as they were in Mii Plaza.

And they even closed their 3DS' and we tried it that way and it wouldn't work. The system is really flakey and doesn't work all the time. I'm kind of disappointed.

Thread is funny. It's not janky, it works great, but you should try 'normal use' not 'sat next to three other people all trying to streetpass at the same time'.

At GDC there were 30 machines in various people's hands, and they all streetpassed all over the place many times a day for a week, all levelling up in the quest as they went, trading comments about each other, etc.

J-Gaffers have finished the quest already, and are streetpassing all the time.

It's going to work just fine, stop forcing it or expecting it to hit critical mass overnight.

Those same 2 guys were 2 rooms away from me. My co-worker connected to them sometime within the 4 hours they were in a meeting..

And I couldn't connect at all. We then sat around for 5 mins trying to figure out what was going on and it wouldn't work.

I even powered my system off within the 4 hour period for a bit and turned it back on.

It doesn't work consistently.. It is some sort of bug that randomly occurs with certain systems.

Hell even my co-worker yesterday didn't get a SF Street Pass Trophy fight yet I did. His didn't show up until the next day which is weird.

When you turned it off you fucked it up.

It takes time - sometimes minutes, sometimes hours, for it to register and show up.

That makes 0 sense.

There are 2 guys 2 floors below me where I can physically have a 15 second conversation with them and then the 3DS starts blinking green. I've actually done this three different times with them now.

Likewise if I turned it off and turned it back on then it should be able to re-register.

I'm not dying here that the thing isn't working flawlessly but I'm just noting some weird janky flaws with it. People claiming it is flawless like 'swerve' who's post history throws his opinion out the window for me is misleading others. Either way it is a cool system - I hope they integrate this with other stuff later on :)

Thank you, this is good to know. Maybe someday...

From what I hear you have to use them right away. If you into Mii Plaza, leave, and come back, it's too late.

Lol, I wish I learned about this sooner. Wasted two opportunities the past two days. Good thing I encountered two extra people today to make up for it.

Had my first StreetPass encounter! I actually found two people on campus, and so we exchanged Mii's. I recorded a video of that and I played through "Play Mii" and "Puzzle Swap" with them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcTKdxog_bM. Pretty cool! I didn't expect to get any hits that soon, let alone get two in one day, so that's pretty awesome. I'm definitely excited for more StreetPass!

3DS - the pussy magnet we've been waiting for, confirmed.

Went out to the Mall of America yesterday for a few hours and got no hits. The other person I was with got one hit while I was in the bathroom. The only time we were separated the entire trip out to the mall. :(

Went back to return an item today, walked around a little bit, still no hits.

I'm just chalking it up to the thing just came out, most people might not even know to enable it. I'm sure within a month I'll be able to go out there on amy given day and get at least a couple street passes.

I was just coming to drop a post complaining about how I've been wandering around the DC area with this thing for two days without any hits and of course when I looked at my 3DS it says I got one on the train ride home.

Crazy thing is that I recognize who it was from the Mii - a nice looking chick who was sitting across from me on the metro.

And now you have a conversation starter for the next time you see her!

"So... I got your Mii. Wanna hang out?"

And then when I get home after that I'll see that her Mii is back in my plaza with a cop and holding a restraining order.

But in all seriousness my Mii looks so dead like me that I'm sure we'll both have a good laugh with each other on the next train ride ;)

Man, Street Pass would have totally rocked had I not graduated 3 months ago.

The college is about the only place in this town with a good amount of people in it. This feature and Oklahoma probably won't be a very good combination for a long while.

Still a no-go on Street Passes at the UofA campus or on the train. I don't think it will be better in a month. Rather, I think after a month of owning the system, people will have stopped bothering to carry around their 3DS' in sleep mode.

Don't Miis level up in Find Mii the more you meet them?

Yeah his Mii is now level 3, but it is still slow going through the dungeon.

Can you put a custom message for him now and have that sent the next time you two pass?

Yeah, but I'm a bit lazy ><

Does anyone know how long find mii is? Is it just that one map?

Right now it only the one map, I think, but I feel it might be increased through updates later on and each map will have a new set of hats, clothes, accessories ect...

how did it notify you? Standard system notification, or something in the game?

Super belated, but: I was in the middle of an arcade mode fight when I put the 3DS into sleep mode. Had just picked up Nintendogs and was planning to try it out, so I lose the fight, button mash through the continues, and back out to the SSF4 main menu. That's when a notification popped up that I had a StreetPass figurine battle. I checked out the results before pulling out the game.

After two days, I finally got a Mii other than my brother. I think it occurred when I went to the car wash. The school that I work at is on spring break so I haven't seen too many students around but hopefully next week it will change.

Anyone knows if there's a limit of connection changes between consoles before opening the 3DS?

Went to go pick up a pizza with my husband on Sunday and brought my 3DS with me in my pocket. On the way home I got the 3DS out to check something and noticed the Mii Plaza icon was glowing. Somewhere along the way, Jim from Texas and I had crossed paths.

I will be in oklahoma in may! Good to know there is at least one person with a 3ds!

So far the key to my success in streetpass is the live demo unit we have @ work. I honestly didn't expect to get anything, but low and behold I got the message... I was like who is this? After seeing the gibberish name, I figured it was the demo. It's still a street pass tho! Next day I got the same one again and a actual proper named person. Gotta say this is neat stuff, I will be carrying my 3DS wherever I go.

My idea of taking my 3DS into work, worked. Got a streetpass from one of our customers today. He didn't have SSFIV streetpass set up yet though (had to help him do it) so still no figure battles for me.

Post the Mii!

No hits on campus but I got one when went to Chili's and Target to pick a 3DS case and cleaning cloth. Dude killed like two ghosts by himself.

My greeting is Persona! in case I forgot to mention it.

Did a lot of walking around NYC today and yesterday, and the only hits I got were at the Nintendo World Store, plus one from (I think) the demo unit at Best Buy.

I'm sure hits will become a tad more common as more and more people buy the system, but that doesn't shake my impression that it's a feature designed primarily for the Japanese market, and one which ultimately amounts to a pretty hollow gimmick without any means of interacting with people whom you meet via StreetPass.

I was at a Kevin Smith show earlier tonight and hit just over a half dozen people somehow. It was totally unexpected, as I just checked that channel during the intermission, and there were a crowd of Miis waiting to be registered.

If you meet someone a 2nd time or more, you're given the option to send a personalized greeting the next time.
