3DS Streetpass Experiences

Pink pieces are much more rare because I THINK when the Find Mii 2 update went live, each person got one unique pink piece. I can't remember if Play Coins only get you blue ones or not.

Only blue through coins. Thats the whole point of the pink ones, they can only be gotten through streetpass, or if you're lucky from the random free piece when a new puzzle is released.

That begs the question.. how did the first person GET the first pink piece??? Question for the ages.

I wish I lived in a larger community, I've only gotten 5 tags in a year... admittedly I don't take my 3DS out very much, but I know for a fact owners in Argentina are not common :P

Streetpassed 2 people who got all of the pink pieces for Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon. Just need one more pink piece and I'm all good.

They got it from the random puzzle piece that you get. :p

Move to Japan or the States. Big cities next a ton of tags, gaming conventions even more.

EDIT: Looks like the Luigi's Mansion dilemma only applies to when the 3DS isn't in sleep mode. I just tagged my brother (again).

Yeah I was referring to the initial free piece you get via SpotPass. It just seems like it's a lot less commonly pink than it ought to be if the probability were the same for any individual piece in the puzzle.

Seems that way to me, too. When the Kirby Return to Dreamland puzzle came out, no one in my local Streetpass group (which has more than five people in it) got a Pink Piece. Got a random one from an encounter at a kid's place, but the pink pieces seem to be harder to get on the first piece. It should be the exact opposite.

I think you'd need much larger sample sizes to really find out what the rate of pink piece distribution is, but it's clearly tuned for far more dense 3DS populations than most people have access to. I was actually really surprised that I was able to complete the Luigi Dark Moon puzzle at PAX East despite the fact the puzzle came out during the event and maybe 5% of all the people I had passed had known to get on SpotPass to grab it. I had it complete before Miyamoto was sent down with the entire set, even...

I've not gotten a starter pink piece for any Spotpass puzzle, either. Could just be repeatedly bad luck, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Yeah, which would actually mean that most people would have access to it, due to the denser population. It's just that if you're not in that kind of place, you're screwed!

Reposting.

I'm sure you would get tons. I went to the NWS one time during a trip to NYC, and easily filled up my 10. And this was back in Fall 2011, on a random day. There are far more 3DSes are in the wild now, and for a launch event with a crowd? People will have their systems open rattling Miis through their queue ad nauseum.

You will get some, check these guys out for events in your area:

These guys usually show up at nintendo events in NYC:

Last...if you live near NYC try to make it to conventions like NYCC.

Good luck

Haha, thanks! I'm from CT, but do make it out to NYC 2-3 times a year. The one time I could have gotten a lot of tags was when OOT 3D came out. I was there by chance and didn't even have a 3DS at the time. :(

That's not really an option :P.

Does anybody know what determines what puzzles you get??? I haven't gotten the Mario Tennis Open until recently, and I know I'm missing a lot of puzzles as well.

Over SpotPass? You'll only get one piece of the newest puzzle. If you weren't around for a given puzzle's introduction, the only way you can start getting pieces from it is to get at least one piece from it via StreetPass. Using play coins will only give you blue pieces for puzzles you're already working on.

So that's why I'm missing so many frames, I missed on their distribution. No wonder!

We had a good MeetUp yesterday, I grabbed thirty-five tags and all of my missing pink pieces for Fire Emblem, Brain Training and Luigi.

I've had a 3DS for almost a year and tried StreetPass for the first time this past week. Never used to take it anywhere with me but, now that I'm playing it a lot more, I like to carry it around wherever I go so I thought I'd give StreetPass a try. I got one person in my local mall. It's pretty cool so I'm definitely going to bring it around whenever I go and see if I can get more people.

When Miyamoto popped up I was like WTF? No way! I live one flight up so I just leave it on the window sill in my apt. Collected so many street pass friends that way. Yes I do play but don't take it to work all the time :)

This is why I love Nintendo and hope it stays around for years to come.

I just spent the last hour reading through pages and pages of console wars BS about delayed rumours and 8 gigawatts of RAM and all sorts of unimportant rubbish.

And then I pop in here and you guys are talking about pink puzzle pieces, and animal crossing hats. Bless.

Haha. Such a great post.

Spent a couple of hours at GDC this week and picked up around 40 tags. Nearly all of them had pink puzzle pieces. It was cool getting Miis from game devs. One I got was a dev on Luigi's Mansion.

I probably could have cleared out a lot more but it was becoming a pain to dump it after every 10 tags. I had 9 in seconds just walking into the registration hall.

I am a 3DS newb so this was my first real street pass experience. Now I am hooked. Have been carrying my 3DS in my glove compartment in hopes of tagging folk on my way to work.

I will make it my job to attend as many game events I can when I am living on my own. Which developer did you tag?

By the way, did anyone notice the Mii Maker and SteetPass Plaza songs are the same tune?

Yeah it has pretty much convinced me I need to attend PAX prime this year.

Not sure which developer it was. I just looked back at my list in MiiPlaza and I have 3 from BC that have been playing Luigi. Must have been one of them. When it did the intro one of them had a line about working for Next Level but I don't see it when I look at the Mii details now. I noticed a few folk were using Street pass to promote their company.

Yeah, PAX East will be on my list for next year. I really want to be at Nintendo World Store for the launch of New Leaf in a couple months. Might goto that.

Buddy of mine said his kid collected the pieces to all of the puzzles at the most recent PAX. Sounds like a helluva lot of work. But yeah I would say PAX is a good place to go. Even if you don't actually attend the show you could probably sit on the sidewalk and get all the tags you would ever need. :)

Oh boy. I'm sure there will be at least half a dozen more puzzles by next year.

Well I was at the mall a few days ago and got 18 hits, I was pleasantly surprised.

However I was at the airport today saying farewell to my mother in law and there was a large group of Japanese students returning home, I thought: aha! surely I'll get someone.

Not a damn thing. :/

Took my 3DS to school today, last time I did that was probably when Star Fox came out. Got a little over 2,000 steps and one tag. Who would have guessed it was the same person that I always StreetPassed there?

Put mine in the glove compartment of my parked car at the Phillies game in Philadelphia last Saturday and got 4. Not bad for not even carrying it around.
