3DS Streetpass Experiences

Here's a question.

Why will I get hits in say...pokemon and not get a Mii for my plaza?

People might not have Mii Plaza as one of their streetpass titles. You will tag and swap data, but no Mii to get puzzle pieces and play games.

It's happened to me quite a bit.

Blahhhh. Sucks. The miis are my favorite part.

The wife and I are going to NYC on the 10th. Not only will I get the ticket in ORAS but I'm sure I'll be getting tons of miis around Times Square.

... Seriously? There is one by my house, I drive by the front of it every week for Streetpass. I had no idea they had multiple relay points in the store! I'm going to check this out today.

The store is simply too huge to only have one. Realized that when I went into one by work on a whim and got nine tags walking through. Became REALLY apparent during the first SP Weekend. I'm sure my brother and I confuse people as we walk through the store making odd comments about lumber, checking three game machines and not buying anything!

I imagine I get even more odd looks doing it alone with two systems out at the same time.

Smash puzzle finally showed up during the day today on JP, but still a no-show on the NA 3DS. Haven't encountered any Smash puzzle pieces via relays at all.

With the holiday stuff on display in home depot I always had an easy fallback thing if someone asked me but now it will go back to being weird again.

I can't believe the Smash puzzle isn't out in the US yet. Nintendo must hate me.

I think I might drag my Japanese 3DS out with me tomorrow to try and get the pink pieces on that one so I have them in case Nintendo holds out on us until after the event.

Didn't realize I didn't need the Nintendo zone app to access this stuff. Neat.

Also, can't I just change my phones WiFi tether thing to 'attwifi' and get all this stuff? Or is it not that simple

How do people go completing a puzzle in a day? Absolutely insane.
I've literally never seen the Nintendo Zone app. I've just received the international passes from Best Buy and group passes from McDonalds.

I lucked out and found a cheap Netgear router at Goodwill today. Took a few hours of flashing DDWRT onto it but I now have HomePass again.

The only problem I'm having is that I can't seem to figure out how to run a script on the router to cycle through the Nintendo Zone MAC addresses; they can be cycled manually but it's a PITA. I followed the instructions on GBATemp but it didn't work...what do I do?

Got a Hawaii pass today. Along with a couple more, I have about 18 states to go. Also got someone from Mexico. I'm expecting to complete the Xenoblade Chronicles puzzle before the event is over.

Got a round of passes from Home Depot yesterday. Then sitting in my car greeting them all I got more on both systems. Ended up with about 30 on the two combined. Now have all the pieces. Just need a few more tags with myself to get pieces across. Ready for that Smash Bros puzzle now!

Improbably, I finally encountered a JP 3DS that had every piece of the Monster Hunter 4 and Daigasso Band Brothers puzzles via relay. Too bad I can't encounter that guy multiple times, I still have 11 JP-only pink pieces to go.

Here's a question.

Why will I get hits in say...pokemon and not get a Mii for my plaza?
A number of reasons:
-Other people didn't activate streetpass for Mii plaza
-If they did activate it their queue in Mii Plaza is full (Pokemon has limits of 99 for XY and 30 for ORAS while Mii Plaza is 10)
-You have have Mii Plaza as the top left slot in Streetpass management. This slot doesn't work with Nintendo zones for some reason (which is where a majority of my streetpasses come from). The solution is activate another game as that will then take the slot (essentially this limits you to 11 games rather than 12) I like to use 3DS Sound for this slot as it is very quick to activate and deactivate.

Edit: So what does 3DS Sound streetpass do? Tell you about other users of the software:

There's a Smash Brothers puzzle? Cool! Has it hit NZ/Aus/Euro yet? I honestly can't remember if I've even had my 3DS connected to the net at home these past few weeks.

Not yet, just got a Nintendo Mii when Captain Toad was released and there wasn't a new panel at that time.

I very, very rarely get any. Not for specific games or anything, it's just hard to come across other 3DS owners around where I live, it seems :/

Finally got maine. I fear I may never get those states like montana and whatever. I've got east and west coast, midwest, south, southwest, alaska and hawaii but I'm missing 3 or 4 montanas.

Finally got all Captain Toad blue pieces, spent around 200 play coins and got the final one with only 2 coins remaining lol. Smash puzzle all over my face, please.

Man I scored big today, I walked around Home Depot for about 15 minutes, let people through the gates, and refilled again.

All in all I think I managed somewhere close to ~30 tags. That's awesome! Not everyone had puzzle pieces that I needed, and I wasted a batch of 10 characters on Find Mii 2 because a room was posioned... oh well!

Didn't realize it was still street pass weekend yesterday. Drove by a Starbucks, so I'm going to assume that's the point I hit. Got Wyoming (only a few states left to go!), a region in Japan I already have, and a region from the Netherlands, which I'm surprised actually HAS a map.

Continuing to spend a lot of time playing the StreetPass games. Just MiiForce and FlowerTown. I have 2 plaza tickets left for Mii Force and 3 for Flower Town. I just got the destroy both of Gold Bone hands ticket which was a tough one. I still need to do the final 5-3 survive with all pods intact ticket and to complete arcade mode. For FlowerTown, I still need to complete 3 jobs.

Considering the amount of time I spent on these games, I definitely got a lot of value for $15. I hope they have something similar when they release the next generation of handheld.

EDIT: Just looked at the activity log. 166 hours spent on it so it's my most played title.

For anyone who hasn't yet, be sure to move the puzzle up and down there items hidden off camera.

Damn I didn't know that.

I got most of my street passes from people I worked with at the last studio I was at. Since changing studios I've only had one hit from someone here. Which I feel is weird since a bunch of people bring their 3DS's in for Smash.

I'm getting less reliable relay point hits from the Starbucks cafes around me. Does their using Google for wifi have something to do with it, or is it just the staff not maintaining it/turning it on all the time?

Locations that have switched to Google no longer function as relays as a result. Better to start hitting up McDonalds or Home Depot for relays now.

What colour combination did you use? I'm still working on getting all 120 plays, but dreading arcade mode.
I like to use a combination of white (for bullet canceling), light blue, and light green.

I would sit in the lower right corner at the start and I destroyed the right hand. Then I dodged all of his attacks which is easy to do except for the ones that come from the eyes. Those are a bit trickier since you have to do circular or figure 8 type moves. After doing that, he'll attack with the remaining hand which is flying through the air. If you don't defeat the hand, then he goes back to different attacks (bullet storm, green 90deg bullets, or the heat seeker type bullets) and then back to the hand.

So my strategy was to keep dodging the attacks and keep trying to hit the remaining hand until I was successful. I think I used shark (blue) in the beginning to destroy the right hand and then was using the bombs (black). Eventually I was able to destroy the other hand. It is hard to hit it when it's moving around.

Ohhhhh so you can defeat the hand on his second boss phase?? Guess I figured you had to destroy them both at the same time during his first phase when the hands circle around you.

As long as you defeat both hands during the battle, you'll get the ticket. So if you don't get it in the first phase, then work to keep the boss alive by focusing on dodging and only attack during the hand phase.

I got my other ticket last night for keeping all pods alive. So the last ticket in Mii Force for me is is to complete Arcade Mode.

So strange that Home Depot is more reliable for StreetPasses than coffee shops.

It seems that the queue for Streetpass can be filled with multiple of the same Mii, if that makes sense. You may go to Home Depot infrequently enough so that there will always be six people other than you that have walked through, but if you go to a coffee shop everyday there might not be six 3DSs each day.

I have been testing this between a Starbucks I normally go to and Home Depot for a little over a week. Same frequency. I will get a couple or none from Starbucks and filled up to 10 each time I go into the Home Depot on the same block.

Makes me want to shop at Home Depot every day.

Home Depot has multiple relays though. I have two 3DS systems and it's funny because sometimes I'll get two totally different sets of 6 or 9, then walk back through and get the opposite set plus one of my Miis. And if I park close enough I can hit a relay right near the entrance from my car.

Does anyone know how close you have to be to a Starbucks? I swear I drove by one during the international weekend and got a bunch, but I don't seem to get any extras from one that I walk pretty much ten feet away from every week.

I'm almost caught up on Pink Pieces. Only two more to go!

You know what that means... Another new puzzle coming out like tomorrow to keep me from catching up...

I know the feeling :/ I'm still behind. Still have one more Pikmin puzzle piece, and then finish Sonic Boom, NES Remix, and Captain Toad >_> I got behind and that's when new puzzles also like showing up.

I would think that if the Nintendo Zone app registers something, then you're close enough.

For whatever reason the Nintendo Zone app no longer reacts when within an "attwifi" hotspot (such as the ones you see in Starbucks locations that haven't switched over to Google, McDonalds, and Home Depot) but still registers that it is on the Internet connection type on the top left of the Home menu.
