3DS Streetpass Experiences

How do I know if they've finished downloading?

You'll get a Spotpass message titled "Puzzle Swap," which indicates that the Spotpass puzzles are ready.

If you're still having trouble, refer to this step-by-step list I made awhile back:

  1. Format system.
  2. Connect to the internet and make sure the region is set to the US.
  3. Make a Mii.
  4. Start Streetpass Plaza.
  5. Set Spotpass settings in Streetpass Plaza to "On"
  6. Go to Puzzle Swap to get my first normal piece.
  7. Exit StreetPass Plaza.
  8. Close the 3DS and wait around 5 minutes for everything to download.
  9. Reopen Streetpass Plaza and tag the Special Mii.
  10. Go back to Puzzleswap and unlock the Spotpass puzzles by taking a free the free puzzle piece.
  11. Take whatever puzzle piece from the Special Mii.

You'll get a SpotPass notification about new PuzzleSwap panels.
Okay. I'm in Streetpass Plaza. I currently have Iwata waiting in the Plaza, and I have the Spot pass notification about Streetpass Quest 2. Is that the one I'm waiting for? How do I activate the new puzzles without quitting the app, re-entering and triggering meeting Iwata?

Edit: Gah. I'm an impatient idiot. I was trying before I got the Puzzle Swap spotpass. Sorted. Thanks guys.

You're waiting for the Spotpass message about Puzzle Swap. And it doesn't matter if you tag Iwata before unlocking the Spotpass puzzles, the trigger that unlocks the puzzles is before you actually collect the piece from Iwata.

edit: lol never mind then.

I do it even simpler than this. I do everything you do, but after I get my first normal piece I just hit the Home button and wait. Just keep checking the Notifications tab and when the Notification about the new Puzzle Swap Panels I hit the Launch Software button. You'll pass the Special Mii and get the new Panels notification when you open Puzzle Swap.

That way I don't close the 3DS until I get the piece I want and accidentally Tag the system I'm trying to get the pink pieces on.

Wouldn't it be simpler to turn off the wireless of the first 3DS until you're ready to tag? That's what I do.

No.

Maybe... >_>

I still like entering the Mii Plaza by clicking the Launch Software button in the Notification about the new Puzzle Swap panels. It makes me feel extra safe about the system recognizing the new panels.

I'm also tagging like 4 3DSs at a time so it's easier for me to just have to worry about the one I'm repeatedly formatting.

Ugh. The Streetpass Quest 2 and Puzzle Swap Spotpass updates are really temperamental. I've been waiting 20 minutes for them this time round. About an hour and a half in and I'm only 2 pink pieces down!

Maybe Nintendo's servers are under a lot of strain right now? I noticed Miiverse was loading images SUPER SLOW last night.

I have a couple of streetpass questions.

1) If I have all the non-pink pieces of a puzzle and I buy more pieces with my coins, will the game still give me duplicates? Or will it treat that puzzle as complete since I can't get pink pieces with my coins and give me pieces to the other puzzles I am missing?

2) I'm setting up my sister's 3DS and she only seems able to access the first few puzzles, when she street passes me she can't see any of the puzzles with pink pieces, for instance. What do I need to do to fix this?

1) The puzzle will remain incomplete and you cannot get puzzle pieces for puzzles you did not otherwise acquire.

2) Make sure SpotPass is turned on in Streetpass Mii Plaza, then let it sit once with Internet access once turned on until you see a blue notification.

Yeah, it pretty much sucks. I'm often in Brum center, Leicester, Coventry, Northampton.. and I never get anything there. It's like people have given up on this, it used to be better with less 3DSes out there.

weird, I live in Leicester and have noticed a big uptick in Streetpasses in the last couple of months - used to get one or two a month, now I'm surprised if I don't get one after I go out. I live in the studenty area though which probably helps a lot.
two different Iwatas in my plaza feels wrong somehow! c'mon Shibata, don't be shy.

Re: Question 2, thank you,

Re: Question 1, I may not have phrased it correctly. It drives me nuts that I spend my coins to buy puzzle pieces, I'll buy 5 pieces and 4 of them will go the Kirby puzzle that needs 1 white piece and 4 pink pieces, and of course I never get the 1 white piece I am missing, (I know you can't get pink pieces with your coins) I just keep wasting my money on white pieces I already have, meanwhile I have things like the Animal Crossing Puzzle that have almost no pieces. So my question is when I do get that last white piece for the Kirby puzzle, even though I am missing pink pieces, will the game stop giving me duplicate white pieces for that puzzle? Or will it not stop until I also have all the pink pieces?

I think it randomly gives you a piece for any incomplete puzzle. So even if you have a puzzle with only pink spots left, it'll still be incomplete and therefore there's still a chance you'll get duplicate pieces.

I don't personally have any exciting stories, but I used to work for Game Stop, and every year they send the store managers to this big conference in Las Vegas. So my boss took the assistant store manager's 3DS with him and got her at least 1,000 Streetpasses.

That's all I've got.

I took my 3DS to my University when I was still a student and rarely got street passes. I get one maybe once a month. The only way I get pieces fast / find mii completions is visiting my brother where we street pass a bunch.

That sucks, I got at least one a day by going to one and class and back home without any detours.

That puzzle will be complete as far as random pieces go I'm pretty sure. I know for a fact it doesn't just let me keep buying pieces when I got all the blue pieces but am missing a few pinks from the latest puzzle.

Iwata is my first special Mii. Sweet.

I've had the system 6 months so I might have missed some previous ones.

I didn't even realise I should have been launching the Mii Plaza when I read the spotpass message in notifications.

Come back Miyamoto!

Is there a new puzzle or something, or is all the talk about Spotpass puzzle updates just in regards to people trying to use the secondary 3DS format trick to get all the pink pieces for recent puzzles like Animal Crossing or Dillon's Rolling Western?

I don't know if it's new but you must beat Find Mii twice to unlock Find Mii 2.

What the fuck, I'm not even finished find mii one

I can never get light blue to break a shield, the only thing I can even do is luck out getting someone who has poison magic.

So I'm at Disney world with my friend and we've gotten some tags, but it seems like even though we are together 99% of the day, we still randomly will get tags that the other person doesn't get.

Is there like any sort of interference where two systems are in range of each other that messes with this sort of thing? I thought until this afternoon that my system was borked because he got about 5 tags that I didn't.

I'm curious about that too.

Sometimes I carry two 3DSs with me, but one will end up getting 12 tags, while the other only gets 6, and some of the tags are unique to each 3DS too >__<

It's probably pretty logistical.
If two of you are walking one way and another person walks past you, there may have only been time for a single data exchange by the time that person has walked out of range.

I don't even bother with the puzzles anymore. It's all about the hats in my opinion.

I rate everyone fantastic when given the opportunity that's the kind of guy I am.

Attack of the clones.

Just got all the pink peces. That took a long, long time, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Still, I'm pleased.

Happens here, too. I do think it has to do with time to streetpass. Between my fiancee's 3DS and mine, we often find different people completely, though they were together the entire time. Only sometimes do we find the same people.

I think I netted around 135ish passes from San Francisco's Zelda Symphony.
It was quite hectic, switching back and forth between the plaza and other games like Mario Kart 7 to clear the queue up.

Maxed out 50 on Fire Emblem.
3 People had Kingdom Hearts.

Got 86 streetpasses on Saturday waiting on line at Nintendo World for Animal Crossing. I imagine I'll get more later today when I go to Nintendo World for the E3 streaming.

Awesome! Not in a position to do the same, as I don't have an extra 3DS to wipe around, but will do so at some point, for sure. Hate not being able to finish the pink puzzle pieces without it.

Anyone knows for how long will Iwata (and Aonuma) be available/distributed?

I did the same for the last 3 days (I don't get many streetpasses where I live, much less pink pieces).
I wouldn't recommend it either.
Every piece takes around 10 minutes (sometimes a bit more), it becomes tiring and boring really fast.
There were a few mistakes where I had to restart the process and it was horrible, almost soul crushing
(:P)
I usually gathered 8 pieces in a row, but there is a point where you have so many clones that the pass is recognized twice (or more) as the same (leveling up the Mii and losing the pieces after the first pass)... MORE SOUL CRUSHING!

I am only missing non-pink pieces of Animal Crossing and Dillon's Rolling Western, so perhaps now that I can use Iwata and Aonuma (2 pieces per formatting) I should try to gather those. Don't really want to, though
(SOUL CRUSHING!)
