3DS System Update Live (Streetpass DLC games, digital game save backups)

There's a FAMICOM HAT?!?

Damn it, Find Mii 2, why can't you give me such awesome hats?!

That's in the US version, right? Or is that just the replacement for the NES hat that we got? Either way, I wish I could obtain a hat with a system on it.

NES and famicom hat are both find mii 2 rewards.

So, I just updated my plaza and went to greet a streetpass from my second 3DS. Looks like the counter for the number of meetings isn't capped at 99 anymore. It gave me a 100 this time. The greeting scene also seems to look subtly different to me, but it might just be my imagination.

Edit: The shop's crashing for me too. (EU)

Edit 2: Still no maps for Ireland, Norway and Switzerland. Having random Miis wander around in the game select park is nice. Looks like they change when it wraps around.

Edit 3: Looks like even some demo save games can be backed up. Too bad there's no way to backup cart saves yet. Got a pixel mario. I was expecting a pixel (Mario) hat. Huh. I also got two pieces of the Heroines puzzle.

yes, australia now has a map entry!

Woohoo! Thanks for reporting. :)

Maybe already posted, but if not, the SP counter finally goes over 99. :D

Also, woohoo!

Oh man, Squad looks fun. I'll be picking that one up for sure!

Damn, on my 3rd playthrough of Find Mii 2. Really hope I get one of those hats soon. Only thing that'll make me switch my Arwing hat.

Video of the new games.

Squad looks really good.
Damn, Squad is a shmup? Interest went way up.

Garden looks...okay. Probably will be the game I consider the freebie if we get the bundle.

Castle is gonna be sweet with the insane amount of Miis you can have in your army.

Mansion seems like a more fleshed out dungeon crawler game.

I'm actually looking forward to these, assuming the price is right.

You only earn 10 coins per day, but you can save up to 300 coins.
It doesnt seem to go beyond 10 for me, weird :/
cant do shit with the new one either from Uruguay, captain

streetpass should just be spotpass in the west

oh well.
Seriously, we're missing so much shit, I dont even have a full puzzle done/still on find mii1 yet after 2 years, and can't even take advantage of the guild cards in MH3U, it sucks!.

It's sad because I got a ton of tags this week at Disney World and games like NSMB2 get so much more life when you have streetpass things to challenge. Not to mention all other games I have. It's just not very good outside of Japan. They really need to hurry along the streetpass stuff in the west. Let me get like 5 tags a day so I can enjoy my system fully instead of just when I'm at Disney World or at a con of some kind.

XENOBLADE PUZZLE OMG OMG!

Honestly, as someone who is REALLY into Streetpass stuff this is such an exciting release.

My family and I are into Streetpass stuff in a big way, we all have 3DSs and go out of our way to get more hits from other people. I wonder if NZ has a map now? lolz. :|

Its hard to get many others round these parts but its getting better, more and more people with 3DSs these days. Animal Crossing has been big. And with Pokemon still to come, its gonna get even bigger!

And have noticed an increase in the amount of people actually carrying them around in sleep mode too. The more stuff to do in the plaza will only improve things I'm sure.

I can't wait to get home and do the update.

Dat green light on 3DS, always so exciting. :)

Squad looks really good.

I want Squad! Definitely buying that game! Looks like a good shmup!

Couldn't make out what Garden is exactly, looks like Harvest Moon? not really sure.

Battle also reminds me of the War battles in Suikoden I, technically a rock-paper-scissors game.

Mansion looks interesting too as a puzzle dungeon-crawler.

Hope we get this soon in NA! This is definitely something that needs to shake up StreePass Mii Plaza, going for puzzle pieces and Find Mii is getting tedious sometimes.

Oh good, we can finally keep our saves? They're almost caught up now. I thought they would do an account system first actually, now that's all that's left.

3DS Redeemed. Fucking megaton right here.

Finally an incentive to go digital on a Nintendo system!

save backup utility seems pretty easy

wish you could do multiple at a time but 'sok.

does it save them in a separate folder on your SD card, or what?

Dudes, some of us Euro folk are just getting up. Maybe images to nearly completed puzzles could be posted as links so we could decide whether to take a look or not?

I'm having the shop crash on two European 3DS'. Something's really wrong there. Japanese shop seems to work fine.

I don't really get the backup feature? Since most things are saved to the SD card, what's the point of storing save data back to the SD card? I feel like I'm missing something here. Or maybe I'm just bitter that my SD card got corrupted a week ago and I had no backup on my computer =(

I think it makes it easier to backup just the saves, instead of having to copy over the whole thing. From what I see, they are stored in:
Nintendo 3DS/.../.../backup

Some details: Inside that directory, there are directories with names which correspond to the backup slot as a three digit hex number. Inside that is another folder, corresponding to a game's ID. For example, if you have a folder called 000400000006f800 (this corresponds to Wrecking Crew, EU) with a file 00000001.sav, this is an exact copy of the 00000001.sav file from the title/00040000/0006fb00/data directory. Considering this, using backups from one 3DS probably won't be possible on another system.

Still, it's also kind of handy that you can just make backups on the fly. If you're going to delete a save slot, you could quickly make a backup beforehand, if you might want to get it back later. This is especially handy, since you can have more than one backup per software, so you should be able to shuffle them around without switching the SD card around between PC and 3DS.

The one thing I'm not clear about yet though, is... How do you actually use the backups? Did anybody find the restore function?

i've got the two aussie 3ds. one crashes when i try to buy. the other works fine. so ninty fixed something when i upgraded the 2nd 3ds

Oh man, please just don't hit America until after tomorrow.

I want a complete set of puzzles for the first time since the original seven.

And my friend has the only piece I'm missing (we've coordinated this).

ahhh jesus, I just slowly backed up most of my data via Settings' data management, without realizing how fast you can do it through the home menu! Yeeeesh.

Yep. I know that Animal Crossing and Monster Hunter don't either, along with the GBA Ambassador games.

Bummer. :(

Animal Crossing seems like it should've been a no-brainer for backing up.

Its cool the counter now goes past 99, me and my GF would be like 300+ if it had it before lol.

Wish the plaza limit was more than 10 though, would make those few crazy convention times where you get so much you can't handle all the Streetpass goodness easier...... or as Japan like to call it, a Tuesday.

Funny you can't backup saves on Animal Crossing, yet you can in Harvest Moon: A New Beginning (tested this one myself)

So what's actually in the US?

So many people talking about added features for different regions :(

Save backups for digital titles. Plus other tweaks.

To EU/JP users: Are all the puzzles known yet? I heard Xenoblade, Skyward Sword, New Super Mario Bros. U and the Heroines puzzle.

Animal Crossing just basically put a wall to cheaters that also block those who want to get back a lost save. You can't back up the save cause the save is useless until it tracks something that saves inside your system or some crap. Basically just a way so you can't download a save file and put it in some way or whatever.

It's incredibly stupid. I get that cheaters in Animal Crossing can make the experience more boring, specially now that you can share everything, but to put blocking that above giving people an opportunity to avoid losing their fucking hundreds of hours save? bad priorities.

Im gonna lose my shit if I lose my save, basically. Hard.

Could have sworn it's been doing that since the last update. Maybe I'm wrong.

FWIW, I see no difference either.
Where did this 60fps info come from?
I compared 4 3DS, side to side, and all 4 seem to run at the same framerate.
3DS XL 5.1.0-11 vs 3DS XL 6.0.0-11
3DS 5.1.0-11 vs 3DS 6.0.0-11

Previous firmware updates fixed slowdown/framerate issues (Street Plaza and Castlevania Mirror of Fate are the most obvious examples).

Seems to work well enough. Backed everything I could just cause.

Link N' Launch doesnt work so I assume it's the same with any DSi game

Backing 3D Land reminded me that I shouldnt since a friend of mine dicked around with my file and got white tanooki Mario to appear on the main campaign, thus I can't achieve the sparkly profile thing..

.. im so gonna play all over that game again just to get that.

I hope Nintendo will increase the daily limit for earning coins.
10 coins per day is not enough for ppl who want to play castle
